Case . . .

(from The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 37 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President, Edited by Bandy X. Lee, MD, MDiv.)
". . . Many critics of Trump, particularly journalists but also those in the mental health field, have focused on his so-called narcissism, his need to be constantly approved of, the childlike nature of his character. In this they are minimizing the significance of his paranoid beliefs and, in so doing, are relegating his psychological dysfunction to a much higher level than is actually the case. This is also true of those show believe he is simply using his attack on illegal immigrants and Muslims to feed his base. In doing so, they are suggesting that he himself knows better, that he knows that he is merely using these ideas because they will appeal to the white working-class men who make up the bulk of his voters. Yet, this overlooks and minimizes the more ominous probability: that he actually is paranoid and that there is an overlap of his personal hatreds and those of his followers. Together, they represent a desire to undo the impact of all that has changed since Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the New Deal, and the general liberalization of society and life in the United States. . . Dear . . .

. . . Congress . . .

FYI.  I urge you to share this with as many members of Congress as you possibly can!  Our future depends upon it!

PRESS RELEASE
AUTHORS OF THE DANGEROUS CASE OF DONALD TRUMP RELEASE
MENTAL HEALTH ANALYSIS OF MUELLER REPORT

If One is Too Incompetent to Commit a Crime, Despite Trying Hard,
Is One Competent to be President?

The Mueller Report may not have enough to indict a president, but it is a document
of extraordinary evidence on mental incapacity

Washington, DC, April 25, 2019 — Leading psychiatrists, psychologists, and mental health experts have released a “report on the Mueller report,” highlighting its extensive documentation of Donald Trump’s psychological characteristics that point to dangerousness and incapacity to serve in his office.  Beyond previous reports of actions and statements, the Mueller report shows the more compelling patterns of impulsivity, recklessness, a lack of firm grip on reality, manipulation of advisors, absorption in self-interest that overrides national interest, inability to consider consequences before taking action, paranoid reactions, an attraction to violence, and an absence of empathy, as well as apparent cognitive and memory difficulties.  Without diagnosing, these make the President clearly a danger in his role as Commander in Chief and one on whom the world relies for steady and wise actions in international affairs.

We are among the 37 mental health experts, including some of the most renowned psychiatrists and psychologists in the country, who put their analysis in the bestselling book, The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump.  An April 2017 conference at Yale School of Medicine, organized by Yale professor Bandy X. Lee clarified the responsibility of mental health professionals to society to point out dangers in our midst and to share their expertise in helping the public to recognize and address those dangers.  That conference led to two editions of this public-service book and the World Mental Health Coalition (dangerouscase.org), an organization of thousands of mental health professionals who have joined together to step up in addressing the dangers posed by the president.

Now, the Mueller report brings new evidence as well as confirmation of the evidence on which we based our assessment two years ago.  As detailed in the document released today, the Mueller report further confirms the reasons why we believed that the president’s condition was severe and would only grow worse over time in his current position.

Seldom do mental health professionals have the quantity of detailed information the Mueller report provides of an individual’s behavior, verified with the caliber of a criminal investigation of the highest order.  Now, we can state with a high level of confidence, based on data that vastly exceed what we ordinarily have in clinical practice, that the evidence of the president’s mental incapacity is overwhelming.

In the interest of making a reasonable attempt to obtain a personal interview, we request that the president sit through a formal evaluation by a panel of independent experts, which the President should be able to agree to if he believes he is fit to serve.  We request that he agree to do so within three weeks.  We believe that, given the enormous high-quality data now available, and the extreme dangers implied in presidential incapacity, it is imperative that the president clarify the matter of incapacity through a thorough examination.  In the event of refusal, we believe that we have enough evidence to come to a conclusion and will pursue this in the ensuing weeks.

For further information contact Dr. Bandy Lee at bandy.lee@yale.edu.

The Party . . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/trump-we-re-party-health-care-dems-we-re-party-n987746)
". . . Trump tweeted that the GOP will be "the party of health care," but Republican senators who met with him said the president offered few details on what their policy would look like if Obamacare were struck down. . . In fact, there was little sign of outward enthusiasm for Trump's latest move among elected Republicans. The party paid a steep price for repeal efforts in the 2018 midterms — voters named health care their top issue in exit polls, and 75 percent of those who did supported Democrats. . ."

". . . GOP Senate candidate Josh Hawley in Missouri: “We've got two perfect little boys. Earlier this year, we learned that our oldest has a rare chronic disease. Pre-existing condition – we know what that means,” he says to camera in a TV ad. “I support forcing insurance companies to cover ALL pre-existing conditions. And Claire McCaskill knows it. You deserve a senator who’s driven to fix this mess – not one just trying to hang on to her office.” . . . But as attorney general of Missouri, Hawley signed on to a conservative lawsuit in February 2018 arguing that Obamacare – and everything in it, including protections for pre-existing conditions – is unconstitutional. “Once the heart of the ACA—the individual mandate—is declared unconstitutional, the remainder of the ACA must also fall,” the lawsuit states. . . ". . . In a desperate effort to level the playing field — or a deliberate effort to muddy the waters — this ad accuses [Ohio House candidate Danny O’Connor (D)] O’Connor of a nonexistent “plan” and fails to account for the fact that Republicans in Congress want to reduce Medicare spending even more. . . Notably, the ad avoids all mention of Obamacare. That’s because the $800 billion in Medicare savings over a decade is baked into the federal budget, and the fight is over whether to reduce Medicare spending even more. That might be a worthy debate to have, but all but impossible when ads sling misleading mud like this. . ."

Informed???

. . . as always . . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/house-gop-confident-it-can-avert-shutdown-senate-far-sure-n838561)
". . . The measure . . . (was to). . . extend the low-income children’s health insurance program for six years while delaying some key Obamacare taxes for two years. But the president's tweet (just before the vote) called that effort into question when he said a CHIP extension should not be part of a short-term bill.

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump
CHIP should be part of a long term solution, not a 30 Day, or short term, extension!

When asked about the president's tweet Thursday morning, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said, "I don’t know whether it’s clear to the president that what we’re trying to do is reauthorize CHIP long term, not just 30 days. I would understand his concern about doing it just 30 days, but we’re trying to do a long term extension for CHIP." . . . The White House later clarified the president's tweet, saying that he does support the House bill. . .

Words. . .

(from http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/ct-cdc-forbidden-words-20171215-story.html)
". . . Trump administration officials are forbidding officials at the nation's top public health agency from using a list of seven words or phrases - including "fetus" and "transgender" - in any official documents being prepared for next year's budget. . . Policy analysts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta were told of the list of forbidden words at a meeting Thursday with senior CDC officials who oversee the budget, according to an analyst who took part in the 90-minute briefing. The forbidden words are: "vulnerable," "entitlement," "diversity," "transgender," "fetus," "evidence-based" and "science-based." . . . The longtime CDC analyst, whose job includes writing descriptions of the CDC's work for the administration's annual spending blueprint, could not recall a previous time when words were banned from budget documents because they were considered controversial. . . The reaction of people in the meeting was "incredulous," the analyst said. "It was very much, 'Are you serious? Are you kidding?' " . . . "In my experience, we've never had any pushback from an ideological standpoint," the analyst said. . . News of the ban on certain words hasn't yet spread to the broader group of scientists at the CDC, but it's likely to provoke a backlash, the analyst said. "Our subject matter experts will not lay down quietly - this hasn't trickled down to them yet.". . . "

(from http://theweek.com/speedreads/730661/cbo-predicts-trumps-move-end-obamacare-subsidies-hike-premiums-uninsured-rate-deficits)
". . . On Thursday night, the Trump administration formally decided to end cost-sharing subsidies that the Health and Human Services Department has been paying insurers to lower premiums for millions of lower-income customers purchasing insurance through the Affordable Care Act exchanges. . . the CBO projected that "gross premiums (that is, before premium tax credits are accounted for) for silver plans offered through the marketplaces would, on average, rise by about 20 percent in 2018 relative to the amount in CBO’s March 2016 baseline and rise slightly more in later years." The number of uninsured would rise by about 1 million in 2018, though it would drop again as people purchased lower-cost plans, and because customers would be shielded from the premium hikes by larger federal subsidies, the federal deficit would rise by $194 billion over the next 10 years. . ."

". . . A bill that would see Texas men fined $100 for masturbating has taken a step closer to becoming law after it received its first reading in the state’s House of Representatives. . . Under section 173.010 of House Bill 4260, the Man’s Right to Know Act, Texas men would only be allowed to masturbate under supervision, inside approved health care and medical facilities. . . Any “unregulated masturbatory emissions outside of a woman’s vagina, or created outside of a health or medical facility, will be charged a $100 civil penalty for each emission, and will be considered an act against an unborn child, and failing to preserve the sanctity of life.” . . . (but) Ms Farrar is not being entirely serious. . . The Texas Democrat knows her bill has no hope of becoming law, and has introduced it to satirize how women have been affected by targeted healthcare legislation in her state, particularly relating to abortion. . ."

Literally . . .

. . . sell what you possess. . .

(from Biblical Literalism: A Gentile Heresy by John Shelby Spong)
". . . "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor . . . and come, follow me". . . It was a hard teaching, one that could not be received by the questioner;  Matthew tells us that the young man "went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.". . .  That conversation then precipitated Jesus; teaching on wealth [in the gospel of Matthew] . . . I always find it interesting to see where biblical literalists cease to be literal.  This is one of those places. Far from listening to the demands of Jesus, we have rather developed a Christianity of affluence, in which the poor are judged and blamed for being poor. In the United States the political party that claims to represent the 'religious' or the 'Christian' vote constantly seeks to cut programs aimed at assisting the poor, and to do away with health coverage for any who cannot afford it. . . "

Health . . .

(from http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/topstories/if-socialist-candidate-bernie-sanders-was-president-heres-what-would-happen-to-the-us-economy/ar-AAfpAhN)
". . . "The great thing about Bernie Sanders is that there's no guile about him. His authenticity is pretty much based on him saying what he believes," said Middlebury University political science professor and expert in presidential politics Matt Dickinson. . . While the U.S. economy would certainly look different under a socialist Sanders presidency, it might not be as crazy as you'd think. . . (his) most significant proposals are implementing a single-payer health care system. . . As president, he would toss Obamacare and replace it with a "Medicare for all" system that he says would cost $1.38 trillion per year but save people and businesses more than $6 trillion over the next decade. . . (Gerald) Friedman . . . says the health care overhaul would enable up to $10 trillion in savings for the general public. And the other programs? Another $1.1 trillion in additional savings over 10 years. And excluding the issue of likely higher taxes, the programs could mean seven million more jobs and a nearly $4 trillion increase in economic activity in 2026. . . "

Only Missing . . .

. . . the violins . . .

(from http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/jan/14/chelsea-clinton/chelsea-clinton-mischaracterizes-bernie-sanders-he/)
". . . Hitting the campaign trail on her mother’s behalf, Chelsea Clinton attacked Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders’ universal health care plan. . . "Sen. Sanders wants to dismantle Obamacare, dismantle the CHIP program, dismantle Medicare, and dismantle private insurance. . . I don't want to empower Republican governors to take away Medicaid, to take away health insurance for low-income and middle-income working Americans. And I think very much that's what Sen. Sanders' plan would do.". . . we decided to look into them (her claims) ourselves — in particular, her claim that Sanders’ plan would "empower" governors "to take away health insurance for low-income and middle-income working Americans.". . .  Given that Sanders’ proposed plan specifically calls health insurance an entitlement for all, we found that this is a mischaracteriza- tion at best. . . Sanders has called the [his] plan "Medicare for all," referring to the the health safety net that covers those over 65. . . she is . . .  right that states would be the primary administrators of the system. The bill calls it a "state-based American Health Security Program." However, the assertion that it would empower Republican governors to take away individual’s health insurance is misleading. . .Clinton’s statement makes it sound like Sanders’ plan would leave many people uninsured, which is antithetical to the goal of Sanders’ proposal: universal health care. . . We rate her claim Mostly False."
