Anyone . . .

. . . else fed up with this stuff?

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-kushner-lefrak-could-potentially-benefit-federal-opportunity-zones-n946821)
". . . The Trump Organization, the family real estate interests of presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner and Trump friend Richard LeFrak, a New York developer, could all benefit from a new federal program that has designated "opportunity zones" in "economically distressed" areas around the country and offers tax benefits for developers. . ."

Never . . .

. . . in a million years
Could I have imagined
If it were possible at all
To live a million years
That folks would be so careless
In the choices that they make
Due to simple unawareness;
Lack of facts; one large mistake

I understand frustrations
And the powerless one feels
I appreciate the waiting
For some benefits to appear
But it may be mere misjudgement
That combined with pure disgust
Which led so many people
To choose what they thought they must

For The . . .

. . . record

". . . illegal immigrants are broadly disqualified from collecting benefits from government programs, according to U.S. Code, with only limited exceptions. Those exceptions are:
Emergency medical care (which includes emergency labor and delivery)
Emergency disaster relief that is provided for the short term and is not a cash payment
Limited immunizations and testing, and treatment of symptoms of communicable diseases
Certain community programs, such as soup kitchens or crisis counseling, as specified by the Attorney General
Limited housing or community development assistance to those already receiving it in 1996
These are the only circumstances under which illegal immigrants can lawfully receive government assistance. Notably absent from this list is any type of Social Security benefits. To repeat: Illegal immigrants cannot legally receive Social Security benefits, and Congress isn’t about to vote on legislation that would change that.
Of course, some immigrants who are here without legal permission do end up receiving Social Security and other benefits, through bureaucratic mistakes or through deliberate fraud. . ."

And This . . .

. . . benefits . . .
. . . me HOW???

". . . Republican senators moved Thursday to dismantle landmark internet privacy protections for consumers in the first decisive strike against telecommunications and technology regulations created during the Obama administration, and a harbinger of further deregulation. . .The measure passed in a 50-to-48 vote largely along party lines. The House is expected to mirror the Senate’s action next week, followed by a signature from President Trump. . .The move means Verizon, Comcast or AT&T can continue tracking and sharing people’s browsing and app activity without permission, and it alarmed consumer advocates and Democratic lawmakers. They warned that broadband providers have the widest look into Americans’ online habits, and that without the rules, the companies would have more power to collect data on people and sell sensitive information. . ."

Everybody . . .

. . . wants one . . .

Many firms spend their 'quality' time with employees preaching on how the employees can do things differently, usually to the benefit of the company.  How many actually consider what makes a 'good' company? . . .

(from http://www.goodcompanyindex.com/good-company/good-employer/)
The phrase good employer evokes images of generous, nice companies.  While such attributes are part of the equation, being a good employer is more complex – and more difficult to achieve.  There are many moving parts, tradeoffs, and judgments that companies must make with regard to their employees.

There are three main elements to being a good employer:
A value-creating organization committed to its employees, through active management of the organization’s leadership, work, and learning environments
Creating business intelligence for being a worthy employer; this makes it possible for a company to masterfully manage the tension between employees as costs and employees as assets
Providing an inspiring purpose with compelling answers to the questions “Whom is the company designed to benefit?” and “What is the company trying to achieve?”

Why would a company seek to be a good employer?  This is basic to being a good company for at least three reasons:
Employees are fundamental stakeholders in a company and deserve to be treated and managed well
Over the long run, it’s hard for companies to deliver great value to their customers if their employees are surly, disenfranchised, and/or in short supply
If companies mistreat or mismanage their workers and fail their customers, the company’s capacity to deliver value to its investors and other stakeholders will suffer correspondingly

Letters . . .

(from Illustrissimi by Albino Luciani [Pope John Paul I])

[from a letter to G. K. Chesterton. . . ]
". . . Progress that involves men who don't recognize a singe Father in God becomes a constant danger: without a parallel moral progress, which is continuous and internal, it develops what is lowest and  cruellest in man, making him a machine possessed by machines, a number manipulated by numbers; he becomes what Papini called 'a raving savage, who, to satisfy his predatory, destructive, and licentious instincts, no longer uses a club, but has the immense forces of nature and mechanical invention to draw upon.'

Yes, I know there are plenty of people who think the opposite of this,  They consider religion a consoling dream, invented by oppressed people who imagine another world, a non-existent  world in which they can later find what is stolen from them today by their oppressors.  These oppressors have arranged the whole thing for their own benefit, to keep the oppressed underfoot and to quieten the instinct towards a class struggle, an instinct that, were it not for religion, would urge them to fight.

It is no good reminding these people that the Christian religion itself favours the revival of proletarian awareness, that is exalts the poor and foresees a just future. . ."

Up . . .

(from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee PAC)
"The president is set to include a major Social Security benefit cut in his budget on Wednesday. President Obama is proposing the so-called chained CPI, which would cut cost-of-living adjustments for grandparents and veterans.

Tuesday, April 9th -- at 12:30PM EST, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee PAC is going to deliver hundreds of thousands of petitions directly to the White House telling Obama: No cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits. "

Seems to me that is cost-of-living increases can be cut from benefits, (to which, by the way, anyone working in the U.S. contributes throughout his working life) the president must write INTO law that the cost of living can no longer GO UP!   Seems only fair.

Odd. . .

Isn’t it odd that our Supreme Court is finding it difficult to say that gay people should be accorded every benefit of marriage while they had no difficulty at all saying that corporations are people?  Maybe it’s time to clean the judicial house.  (Guess that really can't be done, can it?  What a shame.)

Good. . .

. . . for you. . .

Do we really know what is good for us?  Just watched a flick from '96 called Citizen Ruth which asks that, among other questions.   I remember in my early working days encountering homeless people downtown and wondering if my giving them a dollar was actually a benefit to them.  Then there was an episode of LA Law (I think), where one of the attorneys took an interest in a homeless woman and went to great pains to get her involved in a program that would help her become a stable, self- sustaining citizen.  Turns out the woman did not want the help of the attorney at all.  She merely wanted cash to satisfy her immediate need or desire, no matter how temporary, superficial or unhealthy.  She was, in the end, quite content with her homeless lifestyle.

Ruth, in the movie, was similar.  And while she became involved with people who, unlike the attorney, offered her help under the guise of beneficence but were merely using her situation to further their own (political, in this case) agenda.

How true to life.
