Confidentially . . .

I listen to music;
Hearing things all the time.
Some comes from others
And some is just mine.
There's good and there's bad
and there's other that's so-so
With pianos and harps
With percussion and dobro.
But amazing, I find it,
That so much that's inferior
Finds its way to the masses,
And not merely in theory were.
With that certainty, forward
I proceed with much gusto
And commitment to express
Myself true, if you must know.

Too Many . . .

. . . cowboys . . .

Why don't you grow up
just as fast as you can.
All of your innocence
Is a flash in the pan.
It's overrated, you say,
Tryin' to be a nice guy.
It's so much easier this way.
So why even try.
Too many cowboys.

Everyone's watching,
So you think all the time.
Maintain the image,
But it's all in your mind.
What's so damned special about
Being hard as a nail.
Banishing subtlety
Sets yourself up to fail.
Too many cowboys.

Just too many cowboys.
Not quite enough men
Who will listen,
Rather learn, than
Only just pretend.

You wear a big hat.
It's a Stetson of course
Chew some tobacco.
Take a ride on your horse.
You've got some buddies I see;
Just a little hard-boiled.
They've got some dirt on their hands;
They all dabble in oil.
Too many cowboys.

Can't say you're sorry.
Can't say you're wrong.
God is on your side.
He's been there all along.
It doesn't matter to you
If they're hurt or they're dead.
You've been above it so long,
I'll stick by what I said,
too many cowboys.

Only if we knew back then
The things that we know now.
You'd have stayed back there
And we'd be better off and how.

Get in your big truck
And just drive away.
You have no interest
in the things that I say.
Nor did you ever
Listen that much at all.
You set yourself up
For some big kind of fall.
Too many cowboys.

And just like a cowboy,
Just the kind that you are,
Virile and macho
But without a guitar.
Into the sunset you rode
And the credits did roll.
Not a regret did you feel
But you've taken your toll.
Too Many Cowboys.

Injurious . . .

(from https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/03/peter-wehner-trump-presidency-over/607969/)
"When, in January 2016, I wrote that despite being a lifelong Republican who worked in the previous three GOP administrations, I would never vote for Donald Trump, even though his administration would align much more with my policy views than a Hillary Clinton presidency would, a lot of my Republican friends were befuddled. How could I not vote for a person who checked far more of my policy boxes than his opponent? . . . What I explained then, and what I have said many times since, is that Trump is fundamentally unfit—intellectually, morally, temperamentally, and psychologically—for office. For me, that is the paramount consideration in electing a president, in part because at some point it’s reasonable to expect that a president will face an unexpected crisis—and at that point, the president’s judgment and discernment, his character and leadership ability, will really matter. . . this is a massive failure in leadership that stems from a massive defect in character. Trump is such a habitual liar that he is incapable of being honest, even when being honest would serve his interests. He is so impulsive, shortsighted, and undisciplined that he is unable to plan or even think beyond the moment. He is such a divisive and polarizing figure that he long ago lost the ability to unite the nation under any circumstances and for any cause. And he is so narcissistic and unreflective that he is completely incapable of learning from his mistakes. The president’s disordered personality makes him as ill-equipped to deal with a crisis as any president has ever been. With few exceptions, what Trump has said is not just useless; it is downright injurious. . ."

Fire . . .

". . . he's not going to get better. He's not going to grow into the job or become more "presidential". How many words, realistically, do you really believe he's read about COVID-19? How many pages of briefings? When are we going to demand more than a circus from the people in whom we now have so much of our futures invested, willingly or not? We should be calling for this guy to resign on a daily basis. He should be impeached again for gross incompetence. Mike Pence looks like fucking FDR by comparison. Most of the president's supporters will never hold him to any standard that he might not meet. In fact, they will continually lower the bar to accommodate him, because they have already invested too much of themselves in this to go back. The sunk cost is too high. It's up to everyone else to plainly say that he should not have this job any longer. We hired him, on a temporary basis, to manage the Executive Branch of our government. He should be fired. . . "

Available . . .

Everything really is negotiable
Though your initial look may betray
So big and frightening they may appear
Your dedication and intellect take the day

There's one thing you have to remember
You mean so much to me
That's one certainty
When concerns become burdens
Please know I'm the one you need to see
I will always be available
No matter how far life removes you from me

There's no necessity for extreme bravery
All your good qualities I admire
There's no embarrassment and there's no shame
If you accept someone's helping hand when you tire

Any other time
Any other place
Nothing between us will be any different
You don't have to hide
Feelings deep inside
I'm here to help you so please let me try

You may not understand
You may not care
I know you'll realize what's to bear
I always felt that my responsibility
Is to make sure you find happiness anywhere

How . . .

. . . that we must continue to suffer this person in this position????? . . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-suggests-injection-disinfectant-beat-coronavirus-clean-lungs-n1191216)
". . . President Donald Trump suggested the possibility of an "injection" of disinfectant into a person infected with the coronavirus as a deterrent to the virus during his daily briefing Thursday. . . Trump made the remark after Bill Bryan, who leads the Department of Homeland Security's science and technology division, gave a presentation on research his team has conducted that shows that the virus doesn't live as long in warmer and more humid temperatures. Bryan said, "The virus dies quickest in sunlight," leaving Trump to wonder whether you could bring the light "inside the body." . . . "So supposing we hit the body with a tremendous — whether it's ultraviolet or just a very powerful light — and I think you said that hasn't been checked because of the testing," Trump said, speaking to Bryan during the briefing. "And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or some other way, and I think you said you're going to test that, too.". . . "

Progress. . .

It won’t happen.
Turmoil’s not round the bend for us.
All controls are in place;
Neat in their space

See the keeper’s
Keeping vigilant watch
Through a window obscured.
This I assure.

It just can’t
Happen here.

No one saw it
Sneaking up round the corner. Was
Like a thief in the night
Without a fight.

Quite the artist.
Candy-coating what he’s saying
For his own selfish means.
That’s how he leans.

Advocate progressive-sounding ideas.
Tell the people what they want to hear.

There’s no hiding
Dissatisfaction you feel.
Keeps on burning inside.
Still you abide.

Malpractice . . .

(from https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/19/opinion/trump-coronavirus-briefings.html?smid=tw-share&fbclid=IwAR0loAfyugFpg-8lzdrGYR8aiOjuRhtEx3jaqHiGNdpmjlZ4fq-WlKQIzTA)
". . . Under no circumstance should these briefings be carried live. Doing so is a mistake bordering on journalistic malpractice. Everything a president does or says should be documented but airing all of it, unfiltered, is lazy and irresponsible. . . As the veteran anchor Ted Koppel told The New York Times last month, “Training a camera on a live event, and just letting it play out, is technology, not journalism; journalism requires editing and context.” He continued, “The question, clearly, is whether his status as president of the United States obliges us to broadcast his every briefing live.” His answer was “no.”. . . Not . . .

. . . door . . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/social-media/conservative-activist-family-behind-grassroots-anti-quarantine-facebook-events-n1188021?fbclid=IwAR36gkfnfkMhuiaM1wftZdxaKqZ6hsNtX59c9llo4WvNmM929QuJYEIjYqk)
". . . A family-run network of pro-gun groups is behind five of the largest Facebook groups dedicated to protesting the shelter-in-place restrictions, according to an NBC News analysis of Facebook groups and website registration information. . .The groups were set up by four brothers — Chris, Ben, Aaron and Matthew Dorr . . . (who) are known in conservative circles for running pro-gun and anti-abortion rights Facebook groups that bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars annually by antagonizing establishment conservative leaders and activists. . . The Dorrs' network of pages uses a strategy of data harvesting common in activist circles. . . Their groups drive users to petitions on Dorr-registered websites, which collect users' email and home addresses. The groups repeatedly warn users not to use off-site petition platforms like Change.org. . . This sort of Facebook activity is common. . . and it allows for a small group with money and media manipulation skills to simulate the appearance of a much larger movement. It also allows the group to harvest email addresses for future political campaigns, which can be bought and sold. . . ""The Dorr brothers are established scam artists," according to an article on Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life's website. "Nothing they say can be believed, and giving them your money will not advance the pro-life cause in any way.". . ."

Tribis . . .

Mother always told us it's not nice to hate
She'd been practicing that golden rule for years
If we'd only treat each other how we want to be ourselves
God will love us
God will love us

When I first met you I was quite impressed
So much more than pretty face among the crowd
And it didn't happen overnight but the curtain slowly fell
And the colors of your rainbow were revealed

You are the tribis hippocriticus
We don't like you
Just trying to be honest

From your position of authority
You looked down and not across our great divide
With a smile upon your face and hands placed firm on the controls
You're so artistic
You're so artistic

Expertise portrayed for all appearances
Pure professional facade to face the crowd
But just beneath that thick veneer reside reality
The truth is evident and there for

'Cause that's the way we all should be
We're not islands
We're not stones
And just what will it take
To make you see this truth

Let me make it crystal clear how strongly that I feel
'Bout the way you take advantage for yourself
If you took the power devoted to your cold conniving ways
And you turned it
And you turned it totally around
Direct it to another place
Try to do what you have done unto yourself
Just a little understanding there are others here with you
This revolving's not designed for only you

Denial . . .

. . . explained . . .

(from Al Franken, Giant of the Senate by Al Franken)
". . . Let's say you went to your doctor for a checkup, and he told you this: "Okay. You've got to go on a diet and stop smoking. You're fifty years old. You're very overweight. And your father died of a heart attack at age fifty-one. You've really got to cut down on the carbs and start exercising." . . . Sounds bad. But you want a second opinion. So you to to another doctor. "Oh, boy!" says the second doctor. "I see here your father died of a heart attack at about your age. You'd be insane not to go on a diet and start working out. And for godsakes, quite smoking!" . . . Not what you wanted to hear. SO you schedule another appointment. . . . "Oh my God!" says the third doctor. "It's amazing you're still alive! It would be irresponsible of me not to send you right away to this well-being center at Duke for a ninety-day stay!" . . . Well, that certainly seems like a drag. So you schedule another appointment, and then another, and then another. After thirty-two opinions, you're still not happy. But then you see the thirty-third doctor. It's taken a while to schedule all these appointments, so by now you've gained so much weight that you have to go around in one of those motorized carts. . . "It's a good thing you came to me," the thirty-third doctor says. "I'm sure other doctors have been telling you to do all kinds of ridiculous stuff. Well, I'm here to tell you to keep doing exactly what you've been doing. Keep smoking! Watch a little more TV. And eat more fast food! Did you see Carl's Jr. now has thi sandwich where the entire bun is made out of cheese? You see, those other doctors are in the pocket of Big Fresh Fruits and Vegetables." . . . Republicans know that if they concede what climate scientists, the Defense Department, the Muppets, and virtually every other country in the world know - that global warming is real, that it is man-made, and that it is the greatest current threat to global prosperity and stability - the Koch brothers will spend money against them to fund a primary challenge. This goes double for Republicans from conservative states. They know from the experience of their defeated colleagues that the Koch brothers will primary them if they stray from the climate denial orthodoxy, and that the biggest threat to their reelection comes not from Democrats, but from being outflanked to the right by their own party. . . "

WRONG!!! . . .

. . . dead people can't BUY STUFF, Mr. Trump . . .

". . . Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) said President Donald Trump’s Friday tweets calling for several U.S. states to be “liberated” would provoke Americans to break the law and commit acts of violence in his name. . .“The president’s statements this morning encourage illegal and dangerous acts. He is putting millions of people in danger of contracting COVID-19. His unhinged rantings and calls for people to ‘liberate’ states could also lead to violence,” Inslee said in a statement released Friday afternoon. “The president is fomenting domestic rebellion and spreading lies even while his own administration says the virus is real and is deadly, and that we have a long way to go before restrictions can be lifted.”. . . Earlier in the day, President Trump called for certain states to begin easing emergency restrictions put in place to stymie the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. . .As previously reported by Law&Crime, the president specifically attacked battleground states with Democratic governors, specifically Virginia, Michigan, and Minnesota, with the Virginia tweet explicitly saying “LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!”. . ."

Prescience? . . .

(from Al Franken, Giant of the Senate by Al Franken)
". . . I really think that if we don't start caring about whether people tell the truth or not, it's going to be literally impossible to restore anything approaching a reasonable political discourse. Politicians have always shaded the truth. But if you can say something that is provably false, and no one cares, then you can't have a real debate about anything. . . I've always believed that it's possible to discern true statements from false statements, and that it's critically important to do so, and that we put our entire democratic experiment in peril when we don't. It's a lesson I fear our nation is about to learn the hard way. . . "

Other . . .

. . . end of the night

Silver flecks sprinkled through
The azure sky.
Something was in the air
I couldn't describe.
Little compares even remotely.
What will we feel later?

On the other end of the . . .
All is done and said before light.
It may seem to change when we're
On the other end of the night.

And though it's always dark
At the close of each day.
These are the very hours
Encumbrances weigh upon the calm
Spoiling the stillness.
Seems like a world's crashing.

It's all perspective.
How do you see
What has direct bearing on you?
Oh what a difference;
An hour, a day, a night makes;
Makes all things new;
Clears all air if you just realize.

Don't let a dark despair
Color what lies ahead.
A new tomorrow waits
Up around the next bend.
Just be prepared.
A new beginning's,
With the new dawn, waiting.

Out . . .

. . . of proportion; a frequent condition of things in the political arena . . .

(from Al Franken: Giant of the Senate by Al Franken)
". . . New Ulm, (MN) was founded by German immigrants. . . (and) boasts an enormous monument to Arminius, the Germanic warrier who led the slaughter of twelve to fifteen thousand Romand soldiers in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 A.D. . . . locals call the . . . statue "Hermann the German". . . while addressing a small crowd one fall afternoon in 2007, I'm standing in the shadow of a massive monument to Hermann the German. And I had been in comedy for thirty-five years. So what immediately occurred to me was: "Now, I grew up in St. Louis Park, and we had a much smaller statue than Hermann the German here. Ours was called 'Stu the Jew.'" But I didn't!  I didn't say it!. . .  it would get written up not as "Coleman Takes Hilarious Franken Joke Way, Way, Ridiculously out of Context," but as "Republicans Slam Franken for Blaming Holocaust on New Ulm.". . .
