It's OK . . .

. . . to change your mind. . .
(from http://wallstreetonparade.com/2016/02/new-york-times-rethinks-hillary-clinton-for-president/)
". . . One month ago, the Old Gray Lady (the New York Times) said that Democratic primary voters “have the chance to nominate one of the most broadly and deeply qualified presidential candidates in modern history.” . . . Last Friday, the same editorial board at the New York Times that had endorsed Hillary Clinton less than a month earlier, compared her to a “mischievous child.” The Times wrote: “ ‘Everybody does it,’ is an excuse expected from a mischievous child, not a presidential candidate. But that is Hillary Clinton’s latest defense for making closed-door, richly paid speeches to big banks, which many middle-class Americans still blame for their economic pain, and then refusing to release the transcripts.” . . ."

Are Two . . .

. . . ALWAYS better than one?

(from http://www.notable-quotes.com/h/hypocrisy_quotes.html#oOoL0Dtjk21AcqkT.99)
"Every man alone is sincere. At the entrance of a second person, hypocrisy begins."
RALPH WALDO EMERSON

"No man, for any considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true."
NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE

"Whenever a man undergoes a considerable change, in consequence of being observed by others, whenever he assumes another gait, another language, than what he had before he thought himself observed, be advised to guard yourself against him."
JOHANN CASPAR LAVATER

"A man is a hypocrite only when he affects to take a delight in what he does not feel, not because he takes a perverse delight in opposite things."
WILLIAM HAZLITT

"For neither man nor angel can discern
Hypocrisy, the only evil that walks
Invisible, except to God alone."
JOHN MILTON

Obstacles . . .

1. Embrace Self-Awareness
If you don't see the obstacle or believe it's a hindrance, you'll never reach your goals, blaming everything and everyone but the person responsible. This is particularly obstructive to resolving Habitual Obstacles.

2. Use Time to Your Advantage
This is most important with External Obstacles. You must learn to manage your impatience and be ready when the smoke clears. The harder the obstacle, the more time it will take to overcome. Set a preliminary schedule with clear milestones so you can track forward or backward progress. This way you'll see the cumulative impact of miniscule change.

3. Commit to Focused Discipline
It's easy to get distracted with the present. Business people are just that--busy! There is always a fire to put out or a new critical opportunity to distract you. True discipline is about making yourself emotionally commit time and effort to your benefit regardless of external factors.

4. Engage Your Own Creativity
I like to create rhythm in my life so I can freely engage the creative part of my brain for problem solving. There's no better place to apply expansive thinking than on issues holding you back.

Game . . .

. . . change . . .

(from http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/245085)
". . . Gravity Payments founder Dan Price has just announced yet another game-changing proposition.
Over the next three years, the 30-year-old plans to raise the minimum salary for every employee at his credit card processing company to $70,000, he told The New York Times. . ."

He reached his decision after reading a study that said money makes a major difference in the lives of those who make less than $70,000. The initiative will be funded by cutting his own $1 million salary to $70,000 and allocating 75 to 80 percent of the company’s expected $2.2 million in profits this year. 70 employees will get raises and some will see their salaries double. The current average salary is $48,000. “The market rate for me as a CEO compared to a regular person is ridiculous, it’s absurd,” he told the Times. The announcement was met by ecstatic cheers followed by speechlessness on the part of employees.

Try . . .

Words are all that I have to express

All the things I would like to be able to tell you but don't quite know how

Couldn't before and still can't do it now

During all of this time that's transpired little's changed

But a lot has occurred in my thoughts and my feelings for you

Countless superior intellects have searched for answers

I never gave it a whole lot of thought

Until I tried to let you know how much I feel inside

Until I tried to let you know how much I feel inside

For you

I have always believed that it's true

Very few things I'll ever encounter will be quite as precious as you

The magic between us so rare and so new

Though I'm not one of those that you find

Who has always the need to express to so many exactly what he has in mind

I find I have this burning that's deep down inside me

For words I never needed before

Until I tried to let you know how much I feel  inside

Until I tried to let you know how much I feel  inside

for you

I can't imagine ever having my life depend upon eloquence

And maybe it doesn't

But after all this time together it seems long overdue

And in the end it probably doesn't make a difference in how you feel

If I never say it

Now I'm daily rehearsing the way

To articulate every syllable nuance and stress when I say

How much I need to have you here today

And I won't give it up easily

I suspect that it's just as important to you as it is now to me

The words we use themselves have no meaning

So all the more must I make them just right

Now that I try to let you know how much I feel  inside

Until I tried to let you know how much I feel inside

for you

Until I Tried

Serene. . .

. . . conceived as a prayer, but remove 'God' and the wisdom remains. . .

(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serenity_Prayer)
". . . Though clearly circulating in oral form earlier, the earliest established date for a written form of the prayer is various versions printed in newspaper articles in the early 1930s by or reporting on talks given by Winnifred Crane Wygal, a pupil and collaborator of Niebuhr's. Wygal included the following version of the prayer in her 1940 book, We Plan Our Own Worship Services, attributing it to Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971):

O God, give us the serenity to accept what cannot be changed,
The courage to change what can be changed,
and the wisdom to know the one from the other

Various other authors cited Niebuhr as the source of the prayer from 1937 on. Niebuhr included the prayer in a sermon at least as early as 1943, followed closely by its inclusion in a Federal Council of Churches (FCC) book for army chaplains and servicemen in 1944. Niebuhr himself did not publish the Serenity Prayer until 1951, in one of his magazine columns, although it had previously appeared under his name. The prayer is cited both by Niebuhr[4] and by Niebuhr's daughter, Elisabeth Sifton. Sifton thought that he had first written it in 1943, although Niebuhr's wife wrote in an unpublished memorandum that it had been written in 1941 or '42, adding that it may have been used in prayers as early as 1934. Niebuhr himself was quoted in the January 1950 Grapevine as saying the prayer "may have been spooking around for years, even centuries, but I don't think so. I honestly do believe that I wrote it myself." In his book Niebuhr recalls that his prayer was circulated by the FCC and later by the United States armed forces. Niebuhr's versions of the prayer were always printed as a single prose sentence; printings that set out the prayer as three lines of verse modify the author's original version. . .'

Richer . . .

from The Noonday Demon;  An Atlas of Depression by Andrew Solomon)  [James Ballenger said,]
". . . "We're eight inches taller than we were before the Second World War and much healthier, and we're living longer. No one complains about the change.  When you remove a disability, people go out in life and find more, both good and bad.". . .

. . . And that, I think, is really the responses to the question that I was asked by almost everyone to whom I mentioned this book.  "Don't these drugs blank out your life?"  No. What they do is to allow you to have your pain in more important places, in better places, for richer reasons. . ."

No Baggage . . .

. . . at least very little . . .
I have arrived at an eerie-yet-comfortable peace with myself and the world. Some people can see this just by looking at my face. I have no axe to grind with my fellow man, I am content with my life, I love (and like) my wife and children, I can tolerate my job (and even enjoy it frequently) as a means to allowing me to partake of the 'rest' of life.  I don't covet (there's that religious background again) physical things, whether or not they belong to other people or to the retailer.  I find joy in the richness of humanity and feel no need to impose any of my beliefs or perspectives on anyone else. I experience an unexplainable spiritualism in music that only gives more the longer I participate in it.

That's not to say I don't have my own problems and it's not to say that all is right with the world all of the time.  I don't wear blinders and I'm no Pollyanna.  There are many things that aggravate me and that I would, will and still constantly try to change for the better.  But I don't obsess over them.
All in it's own time. My days here are much too few to make myself sick over these things.

So as I sit in this mall and enjoy my coffee amidst retail space renovation, vacationing middle-schoolers, folks of various and sundry national and cultural backgrounds, mid-summer clouds gathering outside and anticipating  a quiet evening, wonderful meal, stimulating conversation and a good night's sleep later on, I also look forward to the prospect of more . . . music.

Pull . . .

. . . this off . . .

Change of plans has made it necessary for me to do two things that I never do.  First, drive three hours to my destination (if you count driving back home the next day, that would be three things) and finding (that would translate: begging) for a place to sleep for a few hours.  In any case, I think I can pull this off.

Things . . .

. . . can be changed . . .

(from(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Hazare)
Kisan Baburao "Anna" Hazare is an Indian social activist who led movements to promote rural development, increase government transparency, and investigate and punish official corruption. In addition to organising and encouraging grassroots movements, Hazare frequently conducted hunger strikes to further his causes—a tactic reminiscent, to many, of the work of Mohandas K. Gandhi.

Hazare also contributed to the development and structuring of Ralegan Siddhi, a village in Parner taluka of Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, India. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan—the third-highest civilian award—by the Government of India in 1992 for his efforts in establishing this village as a model for others.

Anna Hazare started an indefinite hunger strike on 5 April 2011 to exert pressure on the Indian government to enact a stringent anti-corruption law, The Lokpal Bill, 2011 as envisaged in the Jan Lokpal Bill, for the institution of an ombudsman with the power to deal with corruption in public places. The fast led to nation-wide protests in support. The fast ended on 9 April 2011, a day after the government accepted Hazare's demands. The government issued a gazette notification on the formation of a joint committee, consisting of government and civil society representatives, to draft the legislation.

For the year 2011 Foreign Policy magazine named him among top 100 global thinkers. Also in 2011 Anna was ranked as the most influential person in Mumbai by a national daily newspaper. He has faced criticism for his authoritarian views on justice, including death as punishment for corrupt public officials and his alleged support for forced vasectomies as a method of family planning.

In 1991 Hazare launched the Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Aandolan (BVJA, People's Movement against Corruption), a popular movement to fight against corruption in Ralegaon Siddhi. In the same year he protested against the collusion between 40 forest officials and timber merchants. This protest resulted in the transfer and suspension of these officials.
