Salubrious . . .

. . . required . . .

Things once all agreed
Nice and neatly to be
Of a sudden turn
Changing unsettlingly
Now a disrupted calm and
A well thought-out plan
That at earlier time
Brought a united stand
Has turned somewhat murky
Casting haze and a greyness
But with time, truly hoping
For comforting stasis

Pitch . . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-wrongly-says-he-won-t-benefit-gop-tax-plan-n825066)
". . . Trump made another sales pitch for his tax plan . . . repeating his erroneous claim that the Republican bill, if passed, would cost him and other rich Americans “a fortune.”. . . He added that his “very wealthy friends” were “not so happy with me” when it came to the bill . . . In fact, Trump and his family could save more than $1 billion under the House tax plan . . . according to an NBC News analysis. . . "

Part . . .

. . . of the plan . . . now that he's helped make America 'great again' (meaning distracting us by encouraging squabbling about football players, civil war statues, transgender folks in the service etc.), Putin is getting on with what is important to him. . .

(from http://www.theweek.co.uk/89872/how-vladimir-putin-became-the-middle-east-s-power-broker)
". . . Vladimir Putin has staked his claim to be a Middle East power-broker after pushing world leaders to agree a lasting peace in Syria.

The Russian president hosted his Syrian counterpart and ally Bashar al-Assad in the Black Sea resort of Sochi on Monday. The meeting with Assad, only the second time the Syrian leader has travelled abroad since the civil war started more than six years ago, “was apparently staged carefully to show off Putin’s claim to be the new power-broker in the Middle East”, says The Times.

A brief guide to who supports who in Syria
Syrian Civil War: Six years on
Russian state-media says the Russian president will talk to international leaders with influence over the conflict, among them US President Donald Trump, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and the leaders of Iran and Turkey in the next 48 hours.

Today, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, whose countries back opposing sides in the Syria conflict, will travel to Russia for a three-way meeting with Putin.

This is a remarkable turn-around for Assad, who has faced intense international pressure to stand down, and a triumph of diplomacy and military strength from Putin.

Russian forces, who began their invention in Syria two years, have been widely credited as turning the tide in Assad’s favour and to underscore their importance Assad praised military leaders in Sochi for “defending the territorial integrity of [his] country”. . ."

More Taxes . . .

(from https://www.snopes.com/tax-plan-graduate-students/)
CLAIM
The Republican tax reform plan would increase the tax burden on graduate students by counting waived tuition as personal income.

WHAT'S TRUE
The House of Representatives' 16 November 2017 version of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act would tax graduate tuition waivers, and has passed the House.

WHAT'S FALSE
As of 20 November 2017, the Senate version of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act keeps the current exemption from taxation on graduate tuition waivers.

WHAT'S UNDETERMINED
Whether the final version of the tax bill, if passed, will include an end to the exemption of tuition waivers from taxation.

Plans . . .

. . . tax or otherwise? . . .

. . . Paul Krugman makes a plea after 'analyzing' Trump's tax "Plan" . . .

". . . In any case, I’d like to make a plea to my colleagues in the news media: Don’t pretend that this is normal. Let’s not act as if that thing released on Wednesday, whatever it was, was something like, say, the 2001 Bush tax cut; I strongly disapproved of that cut, but at least it was comprehensible. Let’s not pretend that we’re having a real discussion of, say, the growth effects of changes in business tax rates. . ."

I Am . . .

. . . a Company Man . . .

. . . maybe not . . .

I'm feeling dead on my feet
I've got the stubble on my chin
Spent half the night on the job
I'm gonna bring that new account in
There ain't no supper on the table
The lady knows just where I've been
I do the best that I am able
With the limited resources I have
In matters of the heart
And if it's coming down to minding my own business
It's just the business I've been minding
That I've been minding all the time
You gotta make up your mind

I only wanted to
Grow up shooting outlaws
While riding on the back of a horse
But that just wasn't a part of the plan
My mother told me to always be a good boy
But I'm a company man
I do the best that I can
My wife and children will
Have to wait in line for my time
Cause I'm a company man

This looking bad isn't good
The only answer is ignore it
A little pain here and there
You get some medicine and cure it
It's not that I can't take the pressure
The pot is boiling all the time
It's only that I'm being
Measured by the powers in the boardroom above
They're always watching me
And if I miss an opportunity to make another
To make a dollar they will find it
And it will certainly be missed
Another cheek to be kissed

I only wanted to
Grow up shooting outlaws
While riding on the back of a horse
But that just wasn't a part of the plan
My mother told me to always be a good boy
But I'm a company man
I do the best that I can
My wife and children will
Have to wait in line for my time
Cause I'm a company man

I was so young and idealistic then
Couldn't see the trees for the forest
Most of the time
Until I tasted all the choicest wines
Saving money up for that rainy day
Finding phony rendezvous getaways
Am I really fooling somebody
Or is it the pay

I was a child of the light
I always learned to do the right things
And though they said I was bright
There's still a fire inside me burning
For all the riches that I'm missing
For all the love I never found
I wonder who she might be
Kissing in the middle of a cold winter night
When left alone again
I wonder just what I would do if she would leave me
Pack up the kids and run away
Without a singular goodbye
Why in the world would she try

I only wanted to
Grow up shooting outlaws
While riding on the back of a horse
But that just wasn't a part of the plan
My mother told me to always be a good boy
But I'm a company man
I do the best that I can
My wife and children will
Have to wait in line for my time
Cause I'm a company man

Pull . . .

. . . this off . . .

Change of plans has made it necessary for me to do two things that I never do.  First, drive three hours to my destination (if you count driving back home the next day, that would be three things) and finding (that would translate: begging) for a place to sleep for a few hours.  In any case, I think I can pull this off.

If You Build It . . .

. . . you should market it . . .

I know.  I've misquoted the line from Field of Dreams but purposely so.  The members of Oho frequently discuss art, inspiration and commitment in music.  And considering the potential to exploit the business aspects pertaining to your music provided by the current technology, it has become even easier to market your music all by yourself.  So should you decide that you have a musical statement to make and that your talent is sufficient to do that, why simply make a recording and stop at that?  You really have to put that recording in front of every possible set of ears that you can.  That is, of course, unless you really don't need to have your statement heard by too many people. . .

(from http://www.madeforsuccess.com/articles/personal-growth/achievement/seven-steps-to-achieving-your-dream-2/)
1. Dream it
Everything begins in the heart and mind. Every great achievement began in the mind of one person. They dared to dream, to believe that it was possible. Take some time to allow yourself to ask “What if?” Think big. Don’t let negative thinking discourage you. You want to be a “dreamer.” Dream of the possibilities for yourself, your family, and for others. If you had a dream that you let grow cold, re-ignite the dream! Fan the flames. Life is to short to let it go. (Also, check out my article “Dare to Dream Again,” Which has been read by close to a million people in the last 4 months alone. You can see it at the website.)

2. Believe it
Yes, your dream needs to be big. It needs to be something that is seemingly beyond your capabilities. But it also must be believable. You must be able to say that if certain things take place, if others help, if you work hard enough, though it is a big dream, it can still be done. Good example: A person with no college education can dream that he will build a 50 million-dollar a year company. That is big, but believable. Bad example: That a 90 year-old woman with arthritis will someday run a marathon in under 3 hours. It is big alright, but also impossible. She should instead focus on building a 50 million-dollar a year business! And she better get a move on!

3. See it
The great achievers have a habit. They “see” things. They picture themselves walking around their CEO office in their new 25 million-dollar corporate headquarters, even while they are sitting on a folding chair in their garage “headquarters.” Great free-throw shooters in the NBA picture the ball going through the basket. PGA golfers picture the ball going straight down the fairway. World-class speakers picture themselves speaking with energy and emotion. All of this grooms the mind to control the body to carry out the dream.

4. Tell it
One reason many dreams never go anywhere is because the dreamer keeps it all to himself. It is a quiet dream that only lives inside of his mind. The one who wants to achieve their dream must tell that dream to many people. One reason: As we continually say it, we begin to believe it more and more. If we are talking about it then it must be possible. Another reason: It holds us accountable. When we have told others, it spurs us on to actually do it so we don’t look foolish.

5. Plan it
Every dream must take the form of a plan. The old saying that you “get what you plan for” is so true. Your dream won’t just happen. You need to sit down, on a regular basis, and plan out your strategy for achieving the dream. Think through all of the details. Break the whole plan down into small, workable parts. Then set a time frame for accomplishing each task on your “dream plan.”

6. Work it
Boy, wouldn’t life be grand if we could quit before this one! Unfortunately the successful are usually the hardest workers. While the rest of the world is sitting on their couch watching re-runs of Gilligan’s Island, achievers are working on their goal – achieving their dream. I have an equation that I work with: Your short-term tasks, multiplied by time, equal your long-term accomplishments. If you work on it each day, eventually you will achieve your dream. War and Peace was written, in longhand, page by page.

7. Enjoy it
When you have reached your goal and you are living your dream, be sure to enjoy it. In fact, enjoy the trip too. Give yourself some rewards along the way. Give yourself a huge reward when you get there. Help others enjoy it. Be gracious and generous. Use your dream to better others. Then go back to number 1. And dream a little bigger this time!

Plan? . . .

Gadolfini!  Dead.   At 51.  Only fifty ONE!!  (Yesterday's news- maybe.  But the loss of a human life that will require some time and some grieving for many family members.)

Is this part of a plan by some almighty Santa on a golden throne in the sky? I think NOT!   Any supreme being that would plan such a thing would be an arbitrary, hateful being.

Does such tragedy make us stronger?  Maybe.  That is up to us.  But a PLAN!!??  C'MON!!!!

Every time I learn of such a tragedy, it becomes even clearer to me  that every waking moment must be savored and every opportunity for joy, good, beauty and humanity must be taken.  Our time here is short and no one knows what follows.

Once upon a time . . .

. . . there was a 'plan'.  The campaign had gotten nastier with time and, in spite of the opposition's lack of factual currency, began to lean in the other direction.  And what a beauty of a 'plan' it was.  Much like a past incumbency's 'wag the dog' scenario which was choreographed years ago without any serious consequences.  If the required discretion could be maintained, it would be a coup.

A long, long-time international fugitive of the most despicable character, at least here at home, finally tracked down and killed, secretly, quietly, neatly, professionally; very James Bond-ian. How could he not secure re-election.

(Later) All went just as planned.  Done, finished, complete, successful.  A few minor snags with Navy Seals a little too loose-lipped afterward.  But all was taken care-of without major incident.  The election, by the way, also went in the planned direction.  Four more years, integrity intact, no probing questions.  But was the target, in truth, the long-sought after culprit of the worst terror attacks in the history of the world?  Was an innocent person killed for political gain?  Or was the whole thing 'staged'?

But in less than a week after election day, strange, unsettling, unusual, unbelievable news arose.  The terrorist mastermind, so neatly disposed of, and whose assassination so neatly accomplishing its purpose, it was learned by the administration . . . had died ELEVEN YEARS AGO!

. . . or is it???
