More Game . . .

Nunes didn’t blush his moral compass
Doesn’t function in reality very much
Moving like a tag team in the final
Seconds he and co-conspirators made their rush

It’s just a game
When you’re preoccupied
And the flame
Of burning fear’s inside you
When you think you’ve won consider damage
That’s been done to things much bigger than you
And how it hurt everyone

Winning is your singular preoccupation coloring
Each thing that you do and you say
This to the extent that jettisoned is all you learned
Back in your grammar school and from your mother

It’s just a game
One you learned from
Those with no shame
Or principles to which you’re
Blinded by the cloud that has developed
Over you and me and thickening now and soon may end what was
So long ago hard fought and died for
Carefully considered by some brave and valiant ones

Disregarding factuality while
Fabricating spouting fallacies at our expense
Is it sheer ambition are you threatened
Do you think this is the right thing to do
And can you live with yourself
When it’s through

Game

Obvious? . . .

(from https://www.cbsnews.com/news/colin-kaepernick-removed-from-black-history-month-resolution-in-wisconsin-his-home-state/)
". . . The Wisconsin Legislature's Black Caucus, which is composed entirely of Democrats, drafted the annual resolution to honor dozens of prominent African-Americans from Wisconsin. An early draft included (Colin) Kaepernick, the one-time San Francisco 49ers quarterback who started the movement of kneeling in protest during the national anthem at games. . . The resolution draft credited Kaepernick, a Milwaukee native, as an athlete and political activist who "has sought to raise attention to racial injustice and systemic oppression." . . . But Republicans blocked the resolution until Democrats agreed to leave Kaepernick out. He does not appear in the updated text. A final version has not been approved. . . State Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke, a Republican, said GOP lawmakers would not endorse Kaepernick's inclusion "for obvious reasons" and to avoid including controversial figures. The resolution's author, Democratic Rep. David Crowley, called the move a "slap in the face" and a "textbook example of white privilege," noting that he he had to "get the blessing of all of my white counterparts" to get the resolution passed. . . "

. . . obviously, misguided "lawmakers"

Anybody . . .

. . . know the publisher? . . .

(from https://www.baltimoreravens.com/ravenstown/marching-ravens/ravens-fight-song.html)
". . . "The Baltimore Fight Song" takes the original "Baltimore Colts Fight Song" and adds Ravens-centric lyrics in what should make fans' gameday experience even more exciting.

"It's more or less a changing of the guard," said longtime director of the Marching Ravens, John Ziemann. "The fans spoke out on this one. They wanted to feel that tradition."

Speak out, the fans did. BaltimoreRavens.com held an online poll to see whether the Ravens' Flock community wanted to use the new song when the Ravens scored a touchdown or field goal.

Through nearly 10,000 votes, an overwhelming 79 percent (7,766) of fans said "yes" to "The Baltimore Fight Song."

With the help of his bandmates, Ziemann and the band's musical director, Todd Clontz, came up with the new lyrics set to the nostalgic melody.

Since 1998, Baltimore played the "Ravens Fight Song," an anthem penned by John Modell, then a Ravens Vice President and son of previous team owner Art Modell.

"We had a great song before, and that's a good enough song, to me, to be in the Top 10 of college fight songs," Ziemann said. "But bringing in a new one with roots in Baltimore is going to call to mind a sense of history with a look to the future of Baltimore football. . ."

Games . . .

. . . your little game of self-importance
Show us just how wonderful you are
Dazzle with deception all the minions
Who have placed their trust in you
So innocent so true

Have you never placed yourself in someone else's shoes
Have you never tried to see their point of view
You're thorough to ensure that everything will go your way
Would you like them all to do the same to you

So now I find you don't want to look me in the eye
I hope I never sympathize with things you do
in the unrelenting interest of you

Back in school they taught us to be civil
Treat each other how you'd like to be
Even though you'd like to think you're special
We're the same both you and me
Have you ever tried to focus and just see

So now I find you don't want to look me in the eye
I hope I never sympathize with things you do
in the unrelenting interest of you

Walk a mile in someone else's shoes to know
Exactly how they feel
You might think the world owes you a favor but
It's still not right to steal

Please believe you me I'm not that sterling
Everyone does things they can regret
Even in the noblest you will find
Humanity will cause diversion from the truest path

But now I find you don't want to look me in the eye
I hope I never sympathize with things you do
in the unrelenting interest of you

Game . . .

. . . change . . .

(from http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/245085)
". . . Gravity Payments founder Dan Price has just announced yet another game-changing proposition.
Over the next three years, the 30-year-old plans to raise the minimum salary for every employee at his credit card processing company to $70,000, he told The New York Times. . ."

He reached his decision after reading a study that said money makes a major difference in the lives of those who make less than $70,000. The initiative will be funded by cutting his own $1 million salary to $70,000 and allocating 75 to 80 percent of the company’s expected $2.2 million in profits this year. 70 employees will get raises and some will see their salaries double. The current average salary is $48,000. “The market rate for me as a CEO compared to a regular person is ridiculous, it’s absurd,” he told the Times. The announcement was met by ecstatic cheers followed by speechlessness on the part of employees.

The Rules . . .

. . . for 'Rejection Therapy', a game (and therapeutic exercise) devised by Jason Comely to overcome his fear of rejection . . .

(from http://rejectiontherapy.com/rules/)
YOU MUST BE REJECTED BY ANOTHER PERSON AT LEAST ONCE, EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Please notice the wording of the rule. It doesn’t say you must attempt or try to be rejected. The rule is you MUST be rejected by another human being. In this game, rejection is success.

No other outcome will meet the requirement of Rejection Therapy.

To put yourself in a situation where rejection is likely, but to your surprise your request is granted, is not a successful outcome. Why? Because you weren’t rejected. You didn’t ask for enough.

There are a few stipulations as to what counts as a rejection, but the above rule is all you need to benefit from Rejection Therapy.

Sorry . . .

. . . I still don't dig it . . .

. . . football, that is . . .

(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_It_Was,_Was_Football)
"What it Was, Was Football" is a monologue by comedian Andy Griffith. It was recorded in Raleigh, North Carolina for the Colonial Records label in 1953. Soon, Colonial had sold nearly 50,000 copies of the record and then sold the masters to Capitol Records. Capitol released the record in the same year, which soon had sold nearly 800,000 copies, and was instrumental in launching Griffith's career in television, stage, and film. The record is still one of the biggest-selling comedy records of all time. On the original single, the monologue is credited to "Deacon Andy Griffith."   The monologue is a description of a college football game, as seen by a naive country preacher who attends the game by accident and is entirely puzzled by it. Griffith made an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1954, in large part due to the popularity of the record.

Still looks that way to me.

Working. . .

Two hour aloe baths run by James
He answers the telephone when it rings
Dinner and caviar in the sun or rain
The glass and mimosa trees make it all the same

Four vintage autos
Summer house and a private plane
So much to desire
Would be nice but you won't hear me complain
I'll keep on working
Working that's how my life has got to be
I'll keep on working that's how it must be for me
I'll keep on working
Working until my work's all through
To be with you
To be with you

It's off to Ibiza now for a weekend fling
To have the ability to do these things
Italian designer names in my sleeves and cuffs
In spite of such easy means life can be so tough

Four vintage autos
Summer house and a private plane
So much to desire
Would be nice but you won't hear me complain
I'll keep on working
Working that's how my life has got to be
I'll keep on working that's how it must be for me
I'll keep on working
Working until my work's all through
To be with you
To be with you

But one mane's treasure is not to all the same
These things of value like prizes in some game

Do you think the measure of any man should be
How much and how man things he as materially
What price for your sanity how much will you pay
Will these things be here awhile will they fade away
Four vintage autos
Summer house and a private plane
So much to desire
Would be nice but you won't hear me complain
I'll keep on working
Working that's how my life has got to be
I'll keep on working that's how it must be for me
I'll keep on working
Working until my work's all through
To be with you
To be with you

Twister. . .

. . . of a game

Pam and Harrison are the sports fans in the family and I would venture to say that their two favorite sports are baseball and football (the American one).  I can understand the former much better than the latter.  I would never go to sleep lulled by the mellifluous tones of the baseball broadcasters by choice but the other night. . . I did.  Pam fell asleep as the Orioles and Rays began their extra innings.   I slept fitfully but managed to make enough sense of the broadcast each time I awoke to know that it was still undecided.  About 2:05 and 18 innings since the game began, I heard the bad news (for Baltimore fans). . . the Os lost.

(from http://www.peterga.com/baseball/quotes/the_game.htm)
Mark Twain
Baseball is the very symbol, the outward and visible expression of the drive and push and rush and struggle of the raging, tearing, booming nineteenth century.

W.P. Kinsella
It is the same game that Moonlight Graham played in 1905. It is a living part of history, like calico dresses, stone crockery, and threshing crews eating at outdoor tables. It continually reminds us of what was, like an Indian-head penny in a handful of new coins.

Bernard Malamud:
The whole history of baseball has the quality of mythology.

John Cheever
The poet or storyteller who feels that he is competing with a superb double play in the World Series is a lost man. One would not want as a reader a man who did not appreciate the finesse of a double play.

Roger Angell, "Agincourt and After," Five Seasons:
It is foolish and childish, on the face of it, to affiliate ourselves with anything so insignificant and patently contrived and commercially exploitative as a professional sports team, and the amused superiority and icy scorn that the non-fan directs at the sports nut (I know this look -- I know it by heart) is understandable and almost unanswerable. Almost. What is left out of this calculation, it seems to me, is the business of caring -- caring deeply and passionately, really caring -- which is a capacity or an emotion that has almost gone out of our lives. And so it seems possible that we have come to a time when it no longer matters so much what the caring is about, how frail or foolish is the object of that concern, as long as the feeling itself can be saved. Naivete -- the infantile and ignoble joy that sends a grown man or woman to dancing and shouting with joy in the middle of the night over the haphazard flight of a distant ball -- seems a small price to pay for such a gift.

8 year-old Jewish boy, quoted in "The Children's God", (Psychology Today Dec. 1985)
I don't know if this is what you're asking. But I feel closest to God, like after I'm rounding second base after I hit a double.

James Thurber
The majority of American males put themselves to sleep by striking out the batting order of the New York Yankees.

Norman Cousins
At a Dodger baseball game in Los Angeles, I asked Will Durant if he was ninety-four or ninety-five. "Ninety-four," he said. "You don't think I'd be doing anything as foolish as this if I were ninety-five, do you?"
