. . . was a second, and more serious attempt at a Christmas song after a lame attempt at a Santa Claus novelty tune in the late 80s. The lyrics of Cheer are a cynical (surprise!) look at the celebration but I wanted the music to be a-seasonal. The structure and the changes are much like a 1040s pop song and the Ab key signature makes it a challenging but fun improvisational outing.
Gadolfini! Dead. At 51. Only fifty ONE!! (Yesterday's news- maybe. But the loss of a human life that will require some time and some grieving for many family members.)
Is this part of a plan by some almighty Santa on a golden throne in the sky? I think NOT! Any supreme being that would plan such a thing would be an arbitrary, hateful being.
Does such tragedy make us stronger? Maybe. That is up to us. But a PLAN!!?? C'MON!!!!
Every time I learn of such a tragedy, it becomes even clearer to me that every waking moment must be savored and every opportunity for joy, good, beauty and humanity must be taken. Our time here is short and no one knows what follows.
[When reading this, please do not interpret words like god, grace, divine, spirit and salvation as their archaic, pre-scientific definitions]

He will become as God when he stops masquerading as the devil. He will be happy when he stops being miserable. He will be at peace when he stops becoming confused. He will be filled with joy when he stops thinking sadness. He will live when he stops dying. He will be perfect when he stops looking upon imperfection; and he will be saved when he stops damning himself. HE WILL BE ONE WHEN HE STOPS BEING TWO.
