Strange . . .

. . . ommission . . .
". . . There is no shortage of words in the latest negotiating document for the UN climate negotiations taking place in Paris at the end of November – 32,731 words to be precise, and counting. Yet strangely there is one word you won’t find: military. It is a strange omission, given that the US military alone is the single largest user of petroleum in the world and has been the main enforcer of the global oil economy for decades. . ."

Deception . . .

(Thanks to http://www.hoax-slayer.com/why-hoaxes.html)
Spreading viral hoax emails is essentially cyber graffiti. Is it a cheap thrill or revenge against society in general?

In some cases, a newly created hoax message might spread a lot further than the author originally intended. Some hoaxes start out as just a practical joke aimed squarely at a select group of friends. But the friends send it to their friends and, in short order, the message has irretrievably escaped into the wilds of Cyberspace. Some time back, a widely distributed hoax message about a group of Cambodian midgets fighting a lion started in exactly this way.

Sometimes the author misinterpreted something and genuinely felt compelled to let others know about it. For example, the infamous "Bonsai Kittens" website appears to have prompted one outraged visitor to create and send out an email petition calling for authorities to close down the site. However, the creator of the email petition apparently did not realize that the site was just a joke. In spite of the fact that nobody is really making Bonsai Kittens, this misguided petition continues to circulate and collect email addresses years after it was first launched.

Some say spammers deliberately create hoax emails as a way of subsequently collecting email addresses. Certainly, messages that get forwarded many times can accumulate a great many email addresses and spammers may well harvest these addresses for use on spam lists. For such an exercise to be successful (from the spammer's point of view), he or she would have to set up a mechanism by which the hoax messages were eventually returned after they had accumulated a large number of email addresses. Typically, email hoaxes do not have any such mechanism. If they did, it would perhaps make it possible to identify the original author.

Hoaxbusters.org says there are 5 tell-tale signs that an email is a hoax:
1.  It clearly conveys urgency through capitalization and/or many exclamation points
2.  The importance of the message is stressed telling you to share by sending it to as many others as you possibly can
3.  It states that it is NOT a hoax.  It may even contain a disclaimer such as, 'This came from my neighbor who works for Microsoft so I know it's true'
or even a link to Snopes (which most people will not bother to follow)
4.  "Dire Consequences" will result if you do not act
5.  Many >>>>> marks appear in the left margin indicating many forwardings

Doctor! . . .

(fromhttp://truth-out.org/opinion/item/19692-obamacare-the-biggest-insurance-scam-in-history)
". . . A fundamental problem with the ACA is that it is based on continuing our complicated private health insurance or market-based system. Despite their advertising slogans, private insurers primarily exist to create profit for their investors or, in the case of "nonprofit insurers," to pay exorbitant salaries to their executives. They care about health as much as Big Oil cares about the environment.

Health insurers make their profits from charging the highest premiums they can and by restricting and denying payment for care. They want to take in as much money as they can, while paying out as little on health care as possible. They have many tools with which to do this, and they've successfully skirted regulations for decades. When they can't make a profit, they simply pull that product from the shelf and create new products.

The public has been led to believe that the ACA has changed the behavior of health insurers. In this section we briefly explain some major areas of concern and why many of the promises of the ACA are false. . . "

Were The Tables . . .

. . . turned. . .
. . . how would we, in America, handle such wealth? . . .

(from http://www.nbcnews.com/business/norway-everyone-now-millionaire-thanks-oil-2D11884040)
Everyone in Norway became a theoretical millionaire on Wednesday in a milestone for the world's biggest sovereign wealth fund that has ballooned thanks to high oil and gas prices.

A preliminary counter on the website of the central bank, which manages the fund, rose to 5.11 trillion crowns ($828.66 billion), fractionally more than a million times Norway's most recent official population estimate of 5,096,300.

It was the first time it reached the equivalent of a million crowns each, central bank spokesman Thomas Sevang said.

Set up in 1990, the fund owns around 1 percent of the world's stocks, as well as bonds and real estate from London to Boston, making the Nordic nation an exception when others are struggling under a mountain of debts.

Not that Norwegians will be able to access or spend the money, squirreled away for a rainy day for them and future generations. Norway has resisted the temptation to splurge all the windfall since striking oil in the North Sea in 1969.

Norway has sought to avoid the boom and bust cycle by investing the cash abroad, rather than at home. Governments can spend 4 percent of the fund in Norway each year, slightly more than the annual return on investment. . .

Nostalgia. . .

Nostalgia brings back “compassionate conservatism”. What a crock that was.

GWB's presidential library in Dallas, Texas is now open.  Legacy? The controversies of the Bush administration from Iraq, the “global war on terror,” the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the fallout from the 2008 financial crisis come to mind.  So do crimes against humanity.

Some legacy. And even his supporters think that he won’t win the kind of historical vindication THEY once thought inevitable.  Vindication??!!  Damned fools!

His presidency was based on deceit.  Or maybe it evolved into Meantime he and his buddies reaped tremendous financial gain on war accessories and oil.

Supporters describe the new library as a "blunt and forthright assessment of the Bush presidency". Visitors will experience a "frank discussion of what was done and why it was done. . . it doesn’t shy away from controversy. The museum takes on the biggest issues for which the president was criticized.”

Objective assessment?  I don't really care.  I won't be visiting.

I, among many others, have had, directly and indirectly, enough of the GWB fallout.  My only hope is that one day, he AND his accomplices are brought to justice.

Sick. . .

. . . and tired. . .

. . . of Obama bashing, well, simply because he is Obama.  I’m not sure if it’s a subjective thing like, his face, his ears, his smirk or maybe even, (yes Virginia, I’m afraid it’s true) his color.   I’m just sick and tired of it.  I don’t want to hear about his birth certificate (if that’s a REAL issue which his haters were able to uncover but the election officials were not before the election to his first term, then the haters should be pursuing the election officials), his salary cut, his dogs or even, although they are beautiful, his kids.

Let me be clear.  I am not an Obama fan.  But none of the reasons above have anything to do with why I am not an Obama fan.  The reasons below however, do. . .

    •    20,000 Airstrikes (First Term) Cause Death and Destruction From Iraq to Somalia.
    •    Signed the NDAA into law - making it legal to assassinate Americans w/o charge or trial.
    •    Escalated the CIA drone war in Pakistan.
    •    Maintained a presence in Iraq even after "ending" the war.
    •    Sharply escalated the war in Afghanistan.
    •    Secretly deployed US special forces to 75 countries.
    •    Sold $30 billion of weapons to the dictatorship in Saudi Arabia.
    •    Opened up deepwater oil drilling, even after the BP disaster.
    •    Did a TV commercial promoting "clean coal".
    •    Signed the Patriot Act extension into law.
    •    Continued Bush's rendition program.
    •    Signed the Monsanto Protection Act into law.

Heard . . .

 . . . about this?. . .

. . . I hadn't . . . until now . . .

Assumption Parish, 45 miles south of Baton Rouge is home to fishermen, farmers and the oil and gas industry. In the spring of 2012, residents noticed what appeared to be boiling water in the bayou.  Small earthquakes followed.  State officials determined the bubbles were from a single, natural gas source such as a pipeline.

In early August, near a small residential community in Assumption, the earth beneath the Bayou Corne gave way resulting in a large, deep sinkhole filled with water, underground brines, oil and natural gas.  At its largest, the hole covered about 8 acres.

300 residents were evacuated as the governor declared a statewide emergency. Geologists have never seen anything like it before.

Texas Brine, a drilling and storage firm is believed to be at the root of the sinkhole phenomenon in Assumption.  The firm's salt cavern, used to produce salty brine which is needed to manufacture chloride and chemicals for plastics, collapsed from the side and filled with rock, oil and gas from deposits around the salt formation.  The pressure caused a "frack out", much like "fracking" (hydraulic fracturing) done by the oil industry to obtain natural gas from underground.

Texas Brine claimed the cavern collapsed from natural seismic activity and not the reverse, as determined by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and has not officially taken responsibility. USGS, nor the world, has ever faced such a situation and there is no clear path for cleaning it up.  No one is sure when, or even if, residents will be allowed to return to their homes.

Texas Brine is now under state orders to pay a weekly $875 stipend to each evacuated household.  The firm has also set up flaming torches to vent the natural gas contaminating the aquifer.
