Facts . . .

. . . and fiction . . .

Fox's Varney: "New Figures Suggest That Obamacare Will Be Much More Expensive Than We Thought."On the January 27 edition of Fox News' America's Newsroom, network host Stuart Varney claimed that the CBO's report showed that "Obamacare is going to be much more expensive than we thought" and that these "uncovered" costs are "going into our deficit projections." Varney didn't mention the CBO's finding that the ACA will cost less than expected. [Fox News, America's Newsroom1/27/15]

Fox's Hasselbeck: "Bombshell" Report Says Obamacare Will Cost "$50,000 In Taxpayer Money Per Person." During the January 27 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck reported on the CBO's new estimates, saying the estimated cost of Obamacare would be "two trillion dollars" or "$50,000 in taxpayer money" for every insured American, omitting that the price has actually fallen. [Fox News, Fox & Friends1/27/15]

Wash. Examiner: ACA Will "Spend About $2 Trillion." In a January 26 article, The Washington Examinerreported on the CBO's estimates on healthcare spending without noting that the analysis had actually lowered the cost of funding the ACA. Instead, the Examiner focused on the healthcare law's price tag of "about $2 trillion over the next decade":

The subsidies will cost the government less than originally expected, but are still substantial, the budget office said. “Subsidies in the exchanges are projected to average about $5,000 per subsidized enrollee from 2016 through 2018 and to reach almost $8,000 in 2025,” Mr. Elmendorf said.

NOT . . .

. . . because of skin color, not because he wasn't 'tough' enough with Putin, not because of the ACA (well, maybe that one too- but not for the popularly held conservative reasons), not because he uses a teleprompter, not because he spoke to elementary schoolers standing on a 'my ABCs' carpet. . .

NO. . . but this president concerns me because. . .

(from http://rt.com/usa/obama-ndaa-detention-president-288/)
". . . President Barack Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 . . . giving his stamp of approval to a Pentagon spending bill that will keep Guantanamo Bay open and make indefinite detention for US citizens as likely as ever.

The president inked his name to the 2013 NDAA . . . to little fanfare, and accompanied his signature with a statement condemning a fair number of provisions contained in a bill that he nevertheless endorsed.

The NDAA, an otherwise mundane annual bill that lays out the use of funds for the Department of Defense, has come under attack during the Obama administration for the introduction of a provision last year that allows the military to detain United States citizens indefinitely without charge or trial for mere suspicions of ties to terrorism. Under the 2012 NDAA’s Sec. 1021, Pres. Obama agreed to give the military the power to arrest and hold Americans without the writ of habeas corpus, although he promised with that year’s signing statement that his administration would not abuse that privilege.

In response to the controversial indefinite detention provision from last year, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) introduced an amendment in December 2012 that would have forbid the government from using military force to indefinitely detain Americans without trial under the 2013 NDAA. Although that provision, dubbed the “Feinstein Amendment,” passed the Senate unanimously, a select panel of lawmakers led by Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Michigan) stripped it from the final version of the NDAA two week later before it could clear Congress. In exchange, Congress added a provision, Sec. 1029, that claims to ensure that “any person inside the United States” is allowed their constitutional rights, including habeas corpus, but supporters of the Feinstein Amendment say that the swapped wording does nothing to erase the indefinite detention provision from the previous year. . ."

Doctor! . . .

(fromhttp://truth-out.org/opinion/item/19692-obamacare-the-biggest-insurance-scam-in-history)
". . . A fundamental problem with the ACA is that it is based on continuing our complicated private health insurance or market-based system. Despite their advertising slogans, private insurers primarily exist to create profit for their investors or, in the case of "nonprofit insurers," to pay exorbitant salaries to their executives. They care about health as much as Big Oil cares about the environment.

Health insurers make their profits from charging the highest premiums they can and by restricting and denying payment for care. They want to take in as much money as they can, while paying out as little on health care as possible. They have many tools with which to do this, and they've successfully skirted regulations for decades. When they can't make a profit, they simply pull that product from the shelf and create new products.

The public has been led to believe that the ACA has changed the behavior of health insurers. In this section we briefly explain some major areas of concern and why many of the promises of the ACA are false. . . "
