Your? . . .

. . . president?

(from https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/state-of-union-nancy-pelosi-clap-trump-sarcastic-democrat-republican-speech-a8765366.htm)
". . . His calls for political unity seemed particularly hollow given reports Mr Trump had mocked former vice president Joe Biden, and the late Republican Senator John McCain and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer just hours earlier during the State of the Union lunch, which was attended by several news reporters. . . Mr Trump said: “When I say something that you might think is a gaffe, it’s on purpose; it’s not a gaffe. When Biden says something dumb, it’s because he’s dumb.” .  . He also reportedly described Mr Schumer as a “nasty son of a bitch”, and talking about Mr McCain, he said: “He wrote a book and the book bombed.” . . .Responding to Ms Pelosi’s standing ovation, US journalist Mark Gongloff wrote: “You could power Cleveland for weeks on this pure sarcasm energy”. . ."

Ohh!!! . . .

. . . zone . . .

(from http://www.factcheck.org/2011/10/clearing-the-air-on-perrys-record/)
". . . (former Texas Governer and current U.S. Energy secretary-Rick) Perry has cultivated an adversarial relationship with the Environmental Protection Agency going all the way back to his days as Texas’ agriculture commissioner. Perry contends the “mandates and overreaching regulation” of the EPA cost Texas jobs and that Texas is better equipped to tackle air quality issues than “a centralized, all-knowing, one-size-fits-all federal government.” And, he says, Texas has done just fine cleaning up its air without the EPA’s interference (a claim many environmental groups in Texas contest). . . One of Perry’s most heated battles with the EPA is over global warming and the Obama administration’s use of the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from the state’s many oil refineries and power plants. Perry is skeptical of scientists who say global warming is a man-made problem. Tensions reached a boil when, earlier this year, the EPA announced it was taking over control of the greenhouse gas permitting in Texas because the state refused to implement its rules. Texas has led several other states in a legal challenge to the global warming regulations. The issue is still pending in federal court. . ."

Just More . . .

. . . sound waves . . .

(from http://www.explainthatstuff.com/sound.html)
". . . Sound is the energy things produce when they vibrate (move back and forth quickly). If you bang a drum, you make the tight skin vibrate at very high speed (it's so fast that you can't usually see it), forcing the air all around it to vibrate as well. As the air moves, it carries energy out from the drum in all directions. Eventually, even the air inside your ears starts vibrating—and that's when you begin to perceive the vibrating drum as a sound. In short, there are two different aspects to sound: there's a physical process that produces sound energy to start with and sends it shooting through the air, and there's a separate psychological process that happens inside our ears and brains, which convert the incoming sound energy into sensations we interpret as noises, speech, and music. . .

Sound is like light in some ways: it travels out from a definite source (such as an instrument or a noisy machine), just as light travels out from the Sun or a light bulb. But there are some very important differences between light and sound as well. We know light can travel through a vacuum because sunlight has to race through the vacuum of space to reach us on Earth. Sound, however, cannot travel through a vacuum: it always has to have something to travel through (known as a medium), such as air, water, glass, or metal. . ."

Neutrinos . . .

. . . NOT a breakfast cereal . . .

(from http://www.nbcnews.com/science/alien-neutrinos-reveal-new-frontier-astronomy-antarcticas-icecube-2D116241930
A collection of 28 weird high-energy neutrino hits from far beyond the solar system represents the beginning of a new age of astronomy — and the new neutrino astronomers say they already have more data yet to report.

"This is something we've launched now," the University of Wisconsin's Francis Halzen, principal investigator for the international IceCube observatory in Antarctica, told NBC News. "We're on a mission, so I don't think there's any time for relaxing."

IceCube is the world's biggest neutrino detector, drawing data from light sensors buried within a cubic kilometer of ice at the South Pole. It's taken 15 years for the observatory to get from the drawing board and through its construction phase to this point: In this week's issue of the journal Science, Halzen and hundreds of other researchers in the IceCube collaboration report the first big batch of high-energy neutrinos traced to cosmic sources.

How high-energy? Beyond a quadrillion electron volts, or nearly 100 times more energetic than anything that can be smashed up in the world's most powerful particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider. If scientists can reliably trace these neutrinos to their source, they could lead to new maps of the cosmos — and unlock longstanding mysteries of the universe.

"The belief is that the very luminous and energetic sources which produce the highest-energy cosmic rays are also supposed to produce high-energy neutrinos," IceCube spokeswoman Olga Botner of Uppsala University said in a Science video. "We sincerely hope that the neutrinos we have now observed come from these sources, and within a small amount of time we'll be able to perhaps solve the 100-year-old riddle of the origin of cosmic rays." . . .

Thoughts. . .

. . . about our environment. . .

(from http://www.nbcnews.com/science/fracking-practices-blame-ohio-earthquakes-8C11073601)
". . .Research now reveals wastewater from fracking is linked to all the earthquakes in a town in Ohio with no history of earthquakes.

Fracking involves high pressure injection of water, sand and other materials into a well to fracture rock which opens up fissures from which oil and natural gas can flow freely. This process generates wastewater which is disposed of by pumping it underground.

Advocates claim fracking is a safe, economical source of clean energy, while critics argue that it taints drinking water supplies and causes other problems.

Before January 2011, Youngstown, Ohio had never experienced an earthquake since researchers began observations in 1776. In December 2010, the Northstar 1 injection well came online to pump wastewater from fracking projects in Pennsylvania into storage deep underground. In the year that followed, Youngstown recorded 109 earthquakes. The well was soon shut down. . ."

(from http://www.monbiot.com/2013/08/30/backwards-reasoning/)
". . .Many of those who deny that climate change is taking place reached that position as a result of their opposition to wind farms. This, for example, was the route taken by David Bellamy, who stumbled disastrously into the debate a decade ago.

During one of our discussions, he set me the following challenge:
“Why are the so-called greens backing a cartel of multinational companies which are hell bent on covering some of the best of our countryside with so-called wind farms, which can neither provide us with a sustainable source of future energy nor have any measurable effect reducing the amount of carbon dioxide pouring into the atmosphere? If he [George Monbiot] can disprove the latter – which is the mathematical truth – I will fall into line over global warming”.

In other words, if I could disprove his contention that windfarms are useless, he would accept climate change science. I don’t mean to disinter an ancient and long-settled debate, but to use this as an example of a common phenomenon, to which all of us succumb from time to time. When we don’t like an outcome, we reject the premise. . ."

Booking. . .

Dear Mr. Booking Agent,

I just stumbled upon a video of your band on YouTube.  I heard you guys at the beach last year.  Very nice.  Jay and David (founding members of OHO) know your keyboardist very well and actually played in a band with him years ago.

Anyway, still hoping OHO can get a date(s) from you at the Downtown Club.  Fall or winter would be fine if your schedule is full.
Best,
Ray Jozwiak
Oho

Dear Ray,

I've had time to listen to some of your stuff and I don't think it's going to fly at The Downtown. We mainly book high energy pop/rock cover bands. Our demographic Thursday through Saturday nights is more of the young university crowd. We don't really do original bands & the covers you guys do are pretty obscure.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A?

Mr. Booking Agent,

Thank you for taking the time to listen to Oho and for your kind response.

I presume you mean by 'high energy pop/rock cover bands' that each of them play virtually identical repertoire of predictable selections.  Also, do I read into your comment 'high-energy' that for some reason (longevity?) you presume a lack of or a 'low' energy quotient in us?

It seems odd to me that you give the university crowd, a population who is dedicating or will dedicate 4 to 6 years of their lives to LEARNING NEW THINGS, no credit for artistic open-mindedness.  Possibly you should reconsider ORIGINAL bands for the venue.

We seem to think that Beatles/McCartney/Lennon material as well as Leonard Cohen, the Rolling Stones, Peter Gabriel and the like are ANYTHING BUT obscure.  But hey, that's just US!  What the hell do WE know????

Best,
Ray Jozwiak
Oho

or B?

Dear Mr. Booking Agent,

Thank you for taking the time to listen to Oho and for your kind response.  Should you and The Downtown decide on a change in format, we hope you will keep Oho in mind.

Best,
Ray Jozwiak
Oho

Methinks B.

Who. . .

. . . said this?

“I think this is absolutely crazy. Why would you want to increase the cost of energy and kill more American jobs at a time when the American people are still asking where are the jobs? Clear enough?”
If you guessed John Boehner, 61st and current Speaker of the United States House of Representatives,  member of the Republican Party,  U.S. Representative from Ohio's 8th congressional district,  government crybaby and leader of all job makers, who by the way, don't really make many jobs, you are correct.
