A Little . . .

So I said
I've got a roof o'er my head
Some people can't even say the same thing
But it's still not a fact
I can take any comfort in
I want more to make up my legacy
I'm not poorbut everybody's telling me

Money can't buy everything
You've heard it time again
No money can't buy happiness
When will you learn this fact of life my friend

So I said
I've got my very own bed
I don't give it much thought
When I lay down my head
But it's cold and it's lonely
In December on the street
Why do you tell me these kinds of things
I want more of luxuries that wealth can bring

Money can't buy everything
You've heard it time again
No money can't buy happiness
When will you learn this fact of life my friend

I want to be a squire a king a country gentleman
If I can if I can
I want to get respect Ffor what I have
And not for what I am
Just a man just a man

So I said
It's more than daily bread
That I. . . . . . . .

Money can't buy everything
You've heard it time again
No money can't buy happiness
When will you learn this fact of life my friend

Pie . . .

(from http://inventors.about.com/od/foodrelatedinventions/a/pizza.htm)
". . . Considered a peasant's meal in Italy for centuries, we cannot say who invented the very first pizza pie. Food historians agree that pizza-like dishes, including flatbreads topped with oils, spices, and other toppings, were eaten by many peoples in the Mediterranean, including the Greeks and Egyptians. However, modern pizza has been attributed to baker Raffaele Esposito of Naples. In 1889, Esposito -- who owned a restaurant called the Pizzeria di Pietro -- baked what he called "pizza" especially for the visit of Italian King Umberto I and Queen Margherita. According to legend, this pizza was topped with mozzarella, basil and tomatoes to represent the three colors of the Italian flag, and the style was named for Queen Margherita. . ."

MORE. . .

. . . than you'd ever care to know about paninis . . . While eating one recently, I began to wonder if this was an American invention, had it a REAL history, or was it simply named after an Italian opera star (or an opera, for that matter). . .

In many English-speaking countries, a panino (Italian pronunciation: [paˈniːno], from Italian, meaning "small bread, bread roll") is a grilled sandwich made from bread other than sliced bread. Examples of bread types used for panini are ciabatta, rosetta and baguette. The bread is cut horizontally and filled with deli ingredients such as salami, ham, cheese, mortadella, or other food, and often served warm after having been pressed by a warming grill. There is widespread availability and use of sandwich presses, often known as "panini presses" or "toasted sandwich makers."

In Italian the word panino [pa'ni:no] is the diminutive form of pane (bread) and refers to a bread roll. Panino imbottito (stuffed panino) refers to a sandwich, but the word panino is also often used alone to refer to a sandwich in general. The plural form is of "panino" in Italian is panini.

In some English- and French-speaking countries, the plural form panini is sometimes used as a singular word (like salami, also an Italian plural noun).

Although the first U.S. reference to panini dates to 1956, and a precursor appeared in a 16th-century Italian cookbook, the sandwiches became trendy in Milanese bars, called paninoteche, in the 1970s and 1980s. Trendy U.S. restaurants, particularly in New York, began selling panini, whose popularity then spread to other U.S. cities, each producing distinctive variations of it.

During the 1980s, the term paninaro was used to denote a youngsters' culture typical of teenagers supposed to eat and meet in sandwich bars such as Milan's Al Panino and then in the first US-style fast food restaurants opened in Italy. Paninari were depicted as fashion-fixated, vain individuals, delighting in showcasing early 1980s status symbols such as Timberland shoes, Moncler accessories, Ray-Ban sunglasses, and articles from Armani, Coveri, Controvento. They were lampooned in the Italia 1 comedy show Drive-in by Enzo Braschi. A track entitled "Paninaro" appears on Pet Shop Boys' albums Disco and Alternative

Pies Etc. . .

Pizza, or something very much like it, has been made since the neolithic age. Records of people adding other ingredients to bread to make it more flavorful can be found throughout ancient history. The precursor of pizza was probably the focaccia, a flat bread known to the Romans as "panis focacius", to which toppings were then added. In Sardinia, French and Italian archaeologists have found bread baked over 7,000 years ago. The Ancient Greeks had a flat bread called plakous which was flavored with toppings like herbs, onion, and garlic. Foods similar to flatbreads in other parts of the world include the Indian Paratha, Central and South Asian Naan and Roti, Sardinian Carasau, Spianata, Guttiau, Pistoccu and Finnish Rieska. Also worth note is that throughout Europe there are many similar pies based on the idea of covering flat pastry with cheese, meat, vegetables and seasoning such as the Alsatian Flammkuchen, German Zwiebelkuchen, and French Quiche.

Johnny’s Pizza, by the way, is extraordinary – beginning with breakfast. Doors open at 8am to showcase a delicious breakfast pizza. Brushed with butter and smothered with eggs, several delectable cheeses and a bevy of optional toppings, it takes pizza to an unexpected level of delicious. The best fast-order cooks in town deliver other selections that include customary choices like bacon, sausage, pancakes, French toast and more. Don’t miss the chance for a free mimosa or Bellini.

Wine. . .

'Intentional' winemaking can be traced back to the Neolithic period (8500-4000BCE) when communities of the ancient Near East and Egypt resulted from the domestication of plants and animals.  This meant the nomadic life was no longer a necessity.  A 'cuisine' emerged during this time and food processing techniques developed such as fermentation, soaking, heating and spicing.  Foods like bread, beer, meat dishes and grain entrees had their origins at this time. With new foods, new vessels for the preparation, storage and service made their appearance with clay being the material of choice from which to make them. Dating the 'origin' of wine to the period resulted from the discovery of a yellowish reside in a jar found at the site of Hajji Firuz Tepe in the northern Zagros Mountains of Iran in an earthen floor in a kitchen (of sorts) of a Neloithic mudbrick building dated about 5400-5000BCE.

Juvenal . . .

. . . kind-of. . .

Why should I take what is handed me

No money can't buy happiness

Bread, Circuses & Gonzo Piano. . .

Bread
Aish MerahrahMade - with fenugreek seeds and maize; dough allowed to ferment overnight, then flattened and baked

Ajdov Kruh - made with buckwheat flour and potato

Babka - Traditional types usually contain some sort of fruit filling, and are glazed with fruit flavored icing; some contain chocolate or cheese filling

Bagel - ring shaped, usually with a dense, chewy interior; usually topped with sesame or poppy seeds baked into the surface

Baguette - Thin elongated loaf, made of water, flour, yeast, salt, instantly recognizable by slits cut in top surface before baking to allow gas expansion

Barbari bread - invented by Barbar tribes of Iran and Northern Afghanistan

Bazlama - Flat and circular, average thickness of 2 cm, usually eaten fresh

Bofrot - Round, comes in various sizes, made with white flour

Circuses
There is no proof that Phineas Taylor Barnum ever said, "there's a sucker born every minute." He did, however, say that "every crowd has a silver lining," and acknowledged that "the public is wiser than many imagine."

Big Apple Circus' four-legged performers are all horses and small dogs. This not-for-profit circus began 32 years ago in Battery Park, New York City. This year’s show, “Bello is Back!” features Bello Nock, the playful clown with gravity-defying hair.

25 years ago Cirque du Soleil began its modern interpretations of the circus, minus rings and animals. With unique artistic flair, Cirque du Soleil featured state-of-the-art costumes, sets and acrobatics set to music.

Zumanity, an adult-themed circus, features contortionists, acrobats and aerialists. The host of the show, the Mistress of Seduction, says there are no bad seats in the 1,261-seat theater. “It is the only Cirque du Soleil show that talks to the audience. They are very much a part of the show,” says the Mistress.
