Super . . .

Should every man yield to the yearning unashamed
Without hypocrisy and wastefulness;
Squander the strength he’s been endowed with;
Feign superiority as tunnel vision’s all he sees?

I’m trying to develop a superman;
Dionysus evolving into perfect humanity.

Gadding about helping each other get along
Won’t make us build the kind of man I see.
Inferiors are weak copies of betters
Printed on bad paper from old and worn-out plates now gone.

Selection, survivors mastering;
Bettering the species, irrespective of
Everything you’ve ever learned
About what’s right or wrong.

You hear the word, you’re quoting scripture that you learned
Originating from a deity.
But should that motivate your actions?
Such self-serving rewarding scheme.
Yours or mine, that’s what both seem.

Intelligence? . . .

(from https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/presidents-intelligence-briefing-book-repeatedly-cited-virus-threat/2020/04/27/ca66949a-8885-11ea-ac8a-fe9b8088e101_story.html)
". . . U.S. intelligence agencies issued warnings about the novel coronavirus in more than a dozen classified briefings prepared for President Trump in January and February, months during which he continued to play down the threat, according to current and former U.S. officials. . . The repeated warnings were conveyed in issues of the President’s Daily Brief, a sensitive report that is produced before dawn each day and designed to call the president’s attention to the most significant global developments and security threats. . . the alarms appear to have failed to register with the president, who routinely skips reading the PDB and has at times shown little patience for even the oral summary he takes two or three times per week . . . Spruced-up the tracks on SoundCloud into a more organized listing. Got lots of hits today. The sharks are now circling. Can we make these tracks go viral without my having to pay someone?  Hmmmm. . . .

Confidentially . . .

I listen to music;
Hearing things all the time.
Some comes from others
And some is just mine.
There's good and there's bad
and there's other that's so-so
With pianos and harps
With percussion and dobro.
But amazing, I find it,
That so much that's inferior
Finds its way to the masses,
And not merely in theory were.
With that certainty, forward
I proceed with much gusto
And commitment to express
Myself true, if you must know.

Too Many . . .

. . . cowboys . . .

Why don't you grow up
just as fast as you can.
All of your innocence
Is a flash in the pan.
It's overrated, you say,
Tryin' to be a nice guy.
It's so much easier this way.
So why even try.
Too many cowboys.

Everyone's watching,
So you think all the time.
Maintain the image,
But it's all in your mind.
What's so damned special about
Being hard as a nail.
Banishing subtlety
Sets yourself up to fail.
Too many cowboys.

Just too many cowboys.
Not quite enough men
Who will listen,
Rather learn, than
Only just pretend.

You wear a big hat.
It's a Stetson of course
Chew some tobacco.
Take a ride on your horse.
You've got some buddies I see;
Just a little hard-boiled.
They've got some dirt on their hands;
They all dabble in oil.
Too many cowboys.

Can't say you're sorry.
Can't say you're wrong.
God is on your side.
He's been there all along.
It doesn't matter to you
If they're hurt or they're dead.
You've been above it so long,
I'll stick by what I said,
too many cowboys.

Only if we knew back then
The things that we know now.
You'd have stayed back there
And we'd be better off and how.

Get in your big truck
And just drive away.
You have no interest
in the things that I say.
Nor did you ever
Listen that much at all.
You set yourself up
For some big kind of fall.
Too many cowboys.

And just like a cowboy,
Just the kind that you are,
Virile and macho
But without a guitar.
Into the sunset you rode
And the credits did roll.
Not a regret did you feel
But you've taken your toll.
Too Many Cowboys.

Injurious . . .

(from https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/03/peter-wehner-trump-presidency-over/607969/)
"When, in January 2016, I wrote that despite being a lifelong Republican who worked in the previous three GOP administrations, I would never vote for Donald Trump, even though his administration would align much more with my policy views than a Hillary Clinton presidency would, a lot of my Republican friends were befuddled. How could I not vote for a person who checked far more of my policy boxes than his opponent? . . . What I explained then, and what I have said many times since, is that Trump is fundamentally unfit—intellectually, morally, temperamentally, and psychologically—for office. For me, that is the paramount consideration in electing a president, in part because at some point it’s reasonable to expect that a president will face an unexpected crisis—and at that point, the president’s judgment and discernment, his character and leadership ability, will really matter. . . this is a massive failure in leadership that stems from a massive defect in character. Trump is such a habitual liar that he is incapable of being honest, even when being honest would serve his interests. He is so impulsive, shortsighted, and undisciplined that he is unable to plan or even think beyond the moment. He is such a divisive and polarizing figure that he long ago lost the ability to unite the nation under any circumstances and for any cause. And he is so narcissistic and unreflective that he is completely incapable of learning from his mistakes. The president’s disordered personality makes him as ill-equipped to deal with a crisis as any president has ever been. With few exceptions, what Trump has said is not just useless; it is downright injurious. . ."
