. . . quarantine some-muaratine (lyrics included in case you want to sing along) . . .
Should every man yield to the yearning unashamed
Without hypocrisy and wastefulness;
Squander the strength he’s been endowed with;
Feign superiority as tunnel vision’s all he sees?
I’m trying to develop a superman;
Dionysus evolving into perfect humanity.
Gadding about helping each other get along
Won’t make us build the kind of man I see.
Inferiors are weak copies of betters
Printed on bad paper from old and worn-out plates now gone.
Selection, survivors mastering;
Bettering the species, irrespective of
Everything you’ve ever learned
About what’s right or wrong.
You hear the word, you’re quoting scripture that you learned
Originating from a deity.
But should that motivate your actions?
Such self-serving rewarding scheme.
Yours or mine, that’s what both seem.
. . . of music continues for a potential 2015 solo release. Original lyrics from 'Until I Tried ' are here, just in case you want to sing along. . .
Words are all that I have to express
All the things I would like to be able to tell you but don't quite know how
Couldn't before and still can't do it now
During all of this time that's transpired little's changed
But a lot has occurred in my thoughts and my feelings for you
Countless superior intellects have searched for answers
I never gave it a whole lot of thought
Until I tried to let you know how much I feel inside
Until I tried to let you know how much I feel inside
For you
I have always believed that it's true
Very few things I'll ever encounter will be quite as precious as you
The magic between us so rare and so new
Though I'm not one of those that you find
Who has always the need to express to so many exactly what he has in mind
I find I have this burning that's deep down inside me
For words I never needed before
Until I tried to let you know how much I feel inside
Until I tried to let you know how much I feel inside
for you
I can't imagine ever having my life depend upon eloquence
And maybe it doesn't
But after all this time together it seems long overdue
And in the end it probably doesn't make a difference in how you feel
If I never say it
Now I'm daily rehearsing the way
To articulate every syllable nuance and stress when I say
How much I need to have you here today
And I won't give it up easily
I suspect that it's just as important to you as it is now to me
The words we use themselves have no meaning
So all the more must I make them just right
Now that I try to let you know how much I feel inside
Until I tried to let you know how much I feel inside
for you

Maybe I'm dating myself, but remember the old cartoons (and even the Mitch Miller television show) that would display the lyrics to an old (not necessarily old at the time) pop song, and an animated ball would bounce over the lyrics as a recording would play allowing you to vocalize along with the recording?
Well, I'm not savvy enough to make a ball bounce over these lyrics, but they are shown below to accompany the video, allowing you to vocalize along with OHO, should you choose. . .
I'll be your Blood Brother
By your side through thick and thin
I'll be your Blood Brother
Just as long as I don't have to bloody
My hands hands
Bar rooms sure have a funny way
Of bringing loyalty out in a man
Buy a drink and tell a joke
And buddy you've got you a friend
But keep a good eye upon that friend
Because he really doesn't give two hoots
And don't say anything about his Mom
His girlfriend or his army boots
I'll be your Blood Brother
By your side through thick and thin
I'll be your Blood Brother
Just as long as I don't have to bloody
My hands hands
Walked into an auto-mo-showroom
I need some wheels but got no money to spend
When a guy with an ugly tie
Walks out and acts like he's my long-lost friend
I said hey Buddy I've a purpose here
And if you please I will accomplish my goal
So don't you slap me on the back again
Cause if you do I might just lose my control
I'll be your Blood Brother
By your side through thick and thin
I'll be your Blood Brother
Just as long as I don't have to bloody
My hands hands
So please be careful when you meet someone
Who'll make a promise at the drop of a hat
And don't provide them with encouragement
You will regret the day you offered him that
Cause everybody needs some empathy
But just how willing
And how far will they go
To really help you when the chips are down
Can they be trusted half as far as you throw them
I'll be your Blood Brother
By your side through thick and thin
I'll be your Blood Brother
Just as long as I don't have to bloody
My hands hands
Should the lyrics to David Byrne's song "Heaven" be anywhere close to being true, I for one do not intend to participate. Not that I don't have every intention of serving my fellow man during my time on the proverbial mortal coil. But I refuse to believe, as Mother Theresa expressed, that my 'reward' is in heaven or any other imaginary and ethereal place. And also while I'm here, I intend to fully enjoy the beauty, satisfaction and pleasure that the multitude of earthly wonders provides.
Pondering two aspects of music swirling around in my mind when I switched rails to the other and discovered a substantial distance between the two extremities.
The video "Thou Shalt Always Kill" by Scroobius Pip (see Pianogonzology, March 19, 2013) continues to fascinate, as does the artistry and person of the performer, David Peter Meads. Hip-hop music done with an English accent (the hiphop-pronunciations in this dialect are another topic altogether), the Hasidim-style beard, baseball cap, thrift shop suit and twinkling eyes - not to mention truly clever lyrics - make the entire prospect unusual to me, although maybe not to young, British, hip-hop fans. The result is a very enjoyable entertainment.
The other end of the spectrum that I was pondering? . . .

Did you know?
Copyright shape the practices that drive the music business from recording to touring deals. Washington has been passing and amending copyright laws regarding the music industry for more than a century. Still many artist know very little about copyright or rely on obsolete knowledge about those rules.
Copyright actually begins at the moment the music and lyrics are set down on paper, recorded, or stored on a computer. Copyright protects the musician even if the song is never registered with the Copyright Office. The 'poor man's copyright' of ailing a copy of the work to yourself really does not provide any additional legal protection.
Copyright of a composition is totally different and separate from copyright of a sound recording. A sound recording can be considered a master recorded performance of the composition. Always be sure to protect the copyright of the composition separately from the sound recording.
The right to perform or play a song in public is one of the exclusive rights of the copyright holder. Permission or a license is required in advance music is to be played in public unless the music is in the Public Domain or the use of the music qualifies as fair use. But the line between what is private and what is public is complicated. Prior to the Music Licensing Act in 1998, some court cases have drawn the line and declared public uses of music to be copyright infringement unless licensed, as follows:
Radio stations, bars, night clubs, and juke box operators;
Hotels that play the radio for guests through speakers or headphones;
Restaurants;
Stores;
Telephone intercom systems that play music while callers are on hold” (Source: http://publishing.wsu.edu/copyright/music.html)

My only name is the Scroobious Pip
(from http://www.nonsenselit.org/Lear/pw/pip.html and Wikipedia.com)
dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip are a hip-hop duo, combining electronic beats with sung, spoken, and rapped lyrics. The pair are Daniel Stephens (aka dan le sac; production, programming, keyboards, guitars and backing vocals), and David Peter Meads (1981-) (aka Scroobius Pip; vocals/rapper). The name "Scroobius Pip" is an intentional misspelling of the Edward Lear poem, The Scroobious Pip. dan le sac originally hails from Corringham and Scroobius Pip from neighbouring Stanford-le-Hope in Essex. Their first single was "Thou Shalt Always Kill". Signed with the Sunday Best record label, dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip released their debut album in 2008 Titled Angles, it reached 31 in the UK album chart. They released their second album entitled The Logic of Chance on 15 March 2010 on the Sunday Best label. Scroobius Pip released his debut solo album, Distraction Pieces on 19 September 2011.

. . . that for me, the process of writing songs is an easy, breezy, joy of an experience where wonderfully clever lyrics flow effortless out from my brain accompanied by lilting, melodic symphonies both pleasing to the ear and timeless in their universal appeal.
I'd LIKE to say that. The truth is that, for me, songwriting is usually (or should I say- unusually) hard work. Very rarely does a song simply occur to me, fully formed and (in my opinion) wonderful. As a matter of fact, a simple 'hook' fully formed itself occurs periodically at best. I usually have to have either a melody, a concept, a rhythm, or even a 'groove' from another song in my mind before I can even start beginning to start to commence constructing a song at all. The best place for me to begin is with a concept (a lost love, a social injustice, or a stupid human foible, for examples) AND a rhythm or style (three/four jazz, slow rocker, New Orleans funk, for examples) to really get the ball rolling.
But when it's all over, and I like what I've produced, and it tells a story or makes a point, that's one of the most exhilarating sensations in existence. And sometimes, even when the song is okay, not 'Billboard top five with a bullet' wonderful yet not really quite bad, I still feel a certain satisfaction resulting from my efforts, I've flexed my creative 'muscle' and I have practiced my craft to the extent that I am ready to move along and create more. That's how I know that this is what I should be doing. Billy Joel once said, when asked which of his original songs he thought was best, that all of the songs that he created are his children. He doesn't really love one more than another because they're ALL his very own.

. . . my fingers were faster than the eye never left my hands
but, nevertheless, pushed 'go' a little before I actually intended.
Great video though. Funny how many comments posted against this video on YouTube were by folks who had no idea that the clip came from a talk show parody called FERNDALE TONIGHT and the co-hosts (Mull & Willard) were INTENTIONALLY acting like idiots. Furthermore, the laughs were more a result of Martin Mull's facial expressions in reaction to the lyrics. And I'll go a step further, although Waits lived the life to write the songs, the act was still THE ACT, and he well knew why they were laughing and he played his part briliantly. (Of course he is an actor as well.)
Do you suppose the reactions posted on YouTube are, as an indication of the sophistication level of the general public, a direct correlation to the quality of popular entertainment today?
