Thought . . .

. . . THEY would be the experts?

Facebook instructs me to enter the URL of my website for inclusion on my artist's page. An error appears stating "enter a valid URL." The URL entered is valid (https://rayjozwiak.com). I ask the Facebook Help Center, "can you please help?"

Facebook responds:  "We don't have information on that just yet, we're slowly learning how to respond to other types of requests. Check out the Help Center for additional support or choose from our options below."

Am I mistaken or should the Facebook Help Center be able to "Help" with a problem such as this?

Old Days?. . .

. . . food for constitutionalist thought . . .

(from Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power by Jon Meacham)
". . . Jefferson wrote Adams in 1816. Jefferson took the broadest of views: "I steer my bark with hope in the head, leaving fear astern. My hopes, indeed, sometimes fail; but not oftener than the forebodings of the gloomy." . . . Adams was always less sanguine. "I dare not look beyond my nose into futurity," he wrote Jefferson. "Our money, our commerce, our religion, our national and state constitutions, even our arts and sciences, are so many seedpots of division, faction, sedition and rebellion. Everything is transmuted into an instrument of electioneering.". . . The past, he (Jefferson) thought, should hold no magical, unexamined claim over the present. "Some men look at Constitutions with sanctimonious reverence, and deem them, like the ark of the covenant, too sacred to be touched," he wrote in 1816 . . . "They ascribe to the men of the preceding age a wisdom more than human, and suppose what they did to be beyond amendment. I knew that age well: I belonged to it, and labored with it. It deserved well of its country. It was very like the present, but without the experience of the present: and 40 years of experience in government is worth a century of book-reading: and this they would say themselves, were they to rise from the dead. I am certainly not an advocate for frequent and untried changes in laws and constitutions...but I know also that the laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind....We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.". . . "

Thinking . . .

(from Pianogonzology entry #1 of February 9, 2011; 2900 plus posts ago)
". . . I've always been curious about blogging and wary of tweeting. I mean, who really wants to know every fleeting thought that crosses my warped little mind? And I base this curiosity and wariness on my own tastes. In all honesty, I have little to no interest in the fleeting thoughts of too many people. If I think about it hard enough, I may be able to conjure up two or three names. But pop 'icons', actors/actresses (or other 'entertainers'), media 'celebrities', 'news' commentators, talk show hosts and politicians for the most part, have difficulty enough formulating a coherent sentence let alone expressing any thought, sentiment or observation about a topic that would be of even the most remote interest to ME. . . So having said THAT, I begin my first blog. Yes, the thoughts, sentiments, observations, incoherent (and hopefully a few coherent) sentences and fleeting thoughts of MINE for all to see! . . . What the $*&#k was I thinking????

Careful . . .

. . . thought

(from Thomas Jefferson; The Art of Power by Jon Meacham)
". . . Later he told his nephew that religion required careful thought, not reflexive acceptance. "Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear.". . . "

Little . . .

. . . Men

The poet said "Trailing clouds of glory we come
and we go
What do we really know
Smiling so brightly
Betraying the years they have yet to try
Those little men with that glory
Riddles and bedtime stories
Little men with that glory in their eyes

Innocence and wisdom coexist inside their minds
Together with appreciation for the things we miss
In our haste and our big business
Always in awe of the wheels spinning round
And a laugh for the foolish things big men do

The poet said "Trailing clouds of glory we come
and we go
What do we really know
Smiling so brightly
Betraying the years they have yet to try
Those little men with that glory
Riddles and bedtime stories
Little men with that glory in their eyes

Everybody thinks about the world and what the future brings
Who really knows the plan and all its subtleties
We're really smart at least that's what we think
Going our own way in blissful retreat
From the prospect of seeing things too clearly.

The poet said "Trailing clouds of glory we come
and we go
What do we really know
Smiling so brightly
Betraying the years they have yet to try
Those little men with that glory
Riddles and bedtime stories
Little men with that glory in their eyes

Meet . . .

. . . Ellis Woodward

. . . one of four Baltimore artists performing at "The Thought Behind the Songs" Tuesday, March 28 at Germano's Piatini in Baltimore. . .

Ellis Woodward has enjoyed a meandering and eclectic creative path, having written, recorded, and released four independent album/CD projects, written a theme song for a PBS children's TV show pilot, been awarded a grant to write and record public service announcements about water conservation and recycling, and been commissioned to write a song detailing the dangers of food allergies in children. In January 2015, Ellis was a judge in the children's category of the MASC (Mid-Atlantic Song Contest), sponsored by SAW, (Songwriters Association of Washington). Three times, Ellis has been a showcase-featured writer/member of the Baltimore Songwriters' Association (BSA), and is currently a Coordinator for the Baltimore chapter of NSAI (the Nashville Songwriters Association International)... In the early 2000s, Ellis co-wrote a musical celebrating the centennial of the Wright Bros first self-powered flight (Right Place, Right Time, Wright Brothers), a show that has since been performed in theaters, schools, and museums around the country... In December of 2016, Ellis was inducted into the Maryland Entertainment Hall of Fame, a cherished acknowledgment of decades of writing and performing. http://www.yoellis.com/

Sub . . .

 . . . other than sandwich . . .

(from http://www.calmdownmind.com/subconscious-mind-and-your-reality/)
". . . A human brain works on “thought patterns”, which are nothing but “programming” that has been indented into its neural network. . .The problem with subconscious patterns, is that you take it for granted and believe that it’s the truth of who you are. However, the truth is that “subconscious” patterns are simply thought patterns that have been thought so many times that they’ve become ingrained as an “auto” mode of functioning. . . When you think a thought long enough, it automatically goes into “auto” mode because the neural pathways for this thought become strongly embedded in the neural network of your brain. . . A simple awareness of the subconscious negative patterns is enough to start becoming free of them. . . every subconscious thought was once a “new thought” that you ingrained and believed. . ."

Stupidity . . .

(from http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/stupidity)
“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”
― Albert Einstein

“Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish.”
― Euripides, Bacchae

“People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.”
― Søren Kierkegaard

“Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.”
― George Carlin

“You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant.”
― Harlan Ellison

“I'll take crazy over stupid any day.”
― Joss Whedon

“Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it.”
― Laurence J. Peter, The Peter Principle

“In politics, stupidity is not a handicap.”
― Napoléon Bonaparte

“Stupidity isn't punishable by death. If it was, there would be a hell of a population drop.”
― Laurell K. Hamilton, The Laughing Corpse

“If complete and utter chaos was lightning, then he'd be the sort to stand on a hilltop in a thunderstorm wearing wet copper armour and shouting 'All gods are bastards!”
― Terry Pratchett, The Color of Magic

“Evil isn’t the real threat to the world. Stupid is just as destructive as Evil, maybe more so, and it’s a hell of a lot more common. What we really need is a crusade against Stupid. That might actually make a difference.”
― Jim Butcher, Vignette

Humor. . .

. . . and truth. . .
. . . from John Kenneth Galbraith

"The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.
"

"Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite."

"It is a far, far better thing to have a firm anchor in nonsense than to put out on the troubled seas of thought."

"The only function of economic forecasting is to make astrology look respectable.

as a form of employment for economists."

"The salary of the chief executive of a large corporation is not a market award for achievement. It is frequently in the nature of a warm personal gesture by the individual to himself."

"Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof."

"We all agree that pessimism is a mark of superior intellect.
"

"Politics is the art of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable.
"

"Liberalism is, I think, resurgent. One reason is that more and more people are so painfully aware of the alternative."

"The conventional view serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking."

"More die in the United States of too much food than of too little.
"

"In economics, the majority is always wrong.
"

"Few can believe that suffering, especially by others, is in vain. Anything that is disagreeable must surely have beneficial economic effects."

"In all life one should comfort the afflicted, but verily, also, one should afflict the comfortable, and especially when they are comfortably, contentedly, even happily wrong."

"Wealth, in even the most improbable cases, manages to convey the aspect of intelligence.
"
