Integrity . . .

Fifteen minutes of glory, maybe less.
What I wouldn't give for a chance to confess
All the intimate little secrets;
All my hopes and my desires.
I don't care just how valid you think that they are.
They've been mine for a long, long time
And I'm not ashamed of them.

Shut-up Joe.
How do you really know
What's goin' down?
How can you tell if there's a problem somewhere
That you've found?
We all need to gather round.
Help everybody else to see.
That running your mouth aloud
Makes it that much more difficult
For you and me
And our integrity.

Went to work at the factory at fourteen.
Thought I'd finish my schooling sometime in between
Drunken weekends and feudal street-fights
And the visits to my best girl.
But the time slipped away. I've got bills here to pay.
I've got small mouths dependent on me.
My vision is limited.

All my life I know I've wanted to say
Something to my fellow man today.
Couldn't let the facts get in the way.

We weren't that well acquainted. That's the word.
An occasional run-in, we preferred.
Cause one thing that we both believed in,
Heard it over and over again,
It was something about all the fondness we felt;
How the heart can't miss what's not around.
The mind doesn't value it.

Snappy . . .

. . . don't you think? . . .

Shouts in the street

I hear them as I'm walking home

Shoes on my feet

Touch down and take off as I roam

Dreams lifted up

So many pies in the sky

U-flying-o's

I duck them as they fly on by

Tomorrow takes care of itself

Today has its trial and its call

Janus he waits at your door

Rising or breaking his fall

You've got your "Time"

And secrets that love has betrayed

The long yellow line down your spine

That your feeling has frayed

Take my hand we may see

Everything we mean to be

When we meet again

Should it be under blanket of night?

All that remains

Is the matter of choice in disguise

Take my hand we may see

Everything we mean to be

Am I with you or you with me?

We have our time then take our leave

Deep in the heart

Where paradox finds its resolve

Long bodies live

They've learned how to bend to absolve

Now desire is the tie

That holds us fast to life

For the sweetness of the honey

Risk the peril of the hive

Now I'm running through your veins

In exchange I know your pain

All the lies have run aground

And to this earth I'm bound

Old. . .

. . . but worth reflection . . .

(from The Nation, Ryan Devereaux
". . . As a candidate, Barack Obama opposed the Bush administration’s embrace of the state secrets privilege as tactic for deflecting litigation as part of his argument for greater transparency in Washington. He maintained the position, at least rhetorically, following his election. In a memo discussing the Freedom of Information Act in February 2009 the president wrote, “A democracy requires accountability, and accountability requires transparency.”

In an 18-month review of President Obama’s record on human rights, national security and civil liberties entitled “TheNewNormal,” Jaffer and Wizner praise the early accomplishments of the administration—including its release of crucial information regarding the Bush administration’s torture regime—but they also warn of a potential pitfall on the horizon. “There is a very real danger that the Obama administration will enshrine permanently within the law policies and practices that were widely considered extreme and unlawful during the Bush administration. There is a real danger, in other words, that the Obama administration will preside over the creation of a ‘new normal.’”

The Obama administration has invoked the state secrets privilege for the second time in less than a month—most recently in an effort to shut down discussion on the targeted killing of a US civilian who has not been charged of any crime—the new normal may have just arrived. . . "

Crypticism and secrets . . .

. . . I can't even remember . . .

. . . all the things I wanted to tell you.

Aren't we all a little too cryptic at times. . . trying to mention a thought, make a point, illuminate some concept of which we believe we have some insight but maybe we really didn't . . . and of course the mere mention of same can, is, and will rightly be perceived as entirely too CRYPTIC.

. . . and then there are . . .

. . . secrets.  Secrets can be fun, deceitful, intriguing, necessary . . . but they are always difficult to keep.  Particularly if they must be kept in advance of an event and for a very, very, very, loooonnnnggggg  time!!!  And I'm always the one who seems to give them away.   But, alas and AH HAHHH. . .  NOT THIS TIME!!! . . . at least I hope.
