Many years ago I called my brother and excitedly told him that my computer was a phone, having purchased a new PC and being rather thrilled that I could talk with him using solely that device. He deadpanned in response, "yeah, well my door is ajar."
Now I'm on my second MacBook in six years and must invest the time into learning the quirks of a new and improved operating system and have migrated my old files to the new unit but now must make sure that they're in the correct account so that I can take full advantage of all the programmatic improvements Apple has made and at the same time remove old, redundant and superfluous files in order to avoid bogging down the new unit's performance and being the more mature, somewhat impatient character that I am, although Apple products (I have found) are much more intuitive than MS, I still somehow wish that I could do this MUCH FASTER.

. . . are honestly and truthfully a wonderfully convenient and efficient tool. Not only communication via the internet, phone service and email but all the computing capabilities all at your fingertips any time of day (or night). Magnificent.
But I don't have one. At least not yet. I most certainly have no quarrel with the power and convenience these devices provide.
Back around 2003, when I established my 'Gonzo' brand of independent music, I forced myself to explore marketing possibilities on the web from websites to social media to all the free (and some paid) music promotion and distribution services. More than ten years later, I am still exploring. Not only is there a wealth of potential to explore, new opportunities become available almost hourly.
So, you may be thinking, all the more reason to have a smart phone to enable yourself to access this wealth any and all times. Well . . . yes. But, in truth, I most certainly am not a 'gadget' guy and do not need to own the latest and greatest of all tech things available at any given time. I do, in fact, spend more hours on the laptop than many people with whom I have much in common. And I don't need to resolve questions or uncertainties regarding topics of conversation with others instantaneously. I still am able to research such things at a later time.
I don't intend to discontinue explore web potential to market music. But once I close the laptop, I don't feel the need to have all that capability in my back pocket for instant access. When I need to make a phone call, I simply pull out my ancient Samsung fliptop and make one. No need for a smart phone. . .

(from http://www.cnet.com/news/survey-finds-many-use-facebook-during-sex/)
A full 5 percent of folks have checked Facebook during lovemaking, a new survey finds.
I'm not sure if I should be disturbed or impressed by such an apparent mastery of multitasking. If this is what Mark Zuckerberg had in mind when constructing Facebook and his vision of a world where everything is shared, I definitely would never have accepted all those friend requests from family members.
Of course, checking status updates and tapping on chatheads is the least of today's mid-coital distractions, according to the survey conducted in the UK for condom maker Durex by OnePoll, which did not share its methodology or the sample size used. It also found that 12 percent had answered a phone call during sex and 10 percent had read a text in the midst of the act.
I don't consider myself a guru in the fields of either sex or social media, but I am confident enough to say that combining the two probably means you're doing one of them wrong.
While the Durex study seems to be far from scientific, it does reflect a trend. A more formal national study found young Britons having less sex today than in the past, with social media perhaps partly to blame.
For its part, Durex is going all John and Yoko-style on the problem by encouraging everyone to spend the hour between 8:30 and 9:30 in bed on March 29 without any lights on, including those that emanate from the screens of our favorite devices.
It's a romantic notion and an interesting way to sell more condoms, but more importantly, it's a way to at least temporarily reduce the volume of selfies that no one else should ever have to look at.

. . . and Mama was always right. Well, at
least mostly.
First, well it actually happened Sunday, not today. . . Russ' smart phone fell
off the arm of the couch and did the triple back flip dive right into a glass of
water. Pretty smart, in my estimation.
Not sure I could have done it.
They don't call it that for nothing.
(Hailey said the sound of the phone hitting the water will live with her
for years.)
He said he bought insurance for it but never heard from the provider about the
insurance. Seems they have some kind of bogus email address for him and didn't
call, write or otherwise pursue him regarding the insurance.
Then, the new business cards show 396 instead of 369 on the telephone
exchange. And darned if the Office Depot
guy didn't have me proofread the card on the screen, in the store, before he
pushed the "GO" button, and I missed it. Matter of fact, it took me about two months
to notice it. Maybe that's why I haven't
been getting any new calls!
The bathroom scale has also been behaving less than
famously. We noticed that we both
weighed approximately five lbs more than formerly and that we care to. Discussions on purchasing a new scale have been underway
for weeks. We finally made our move and
when ‘testing’ various models in the retail outlet we discovered that the most
promising one actually adds about ten lbs. Not a happy development. Sometimes ignorance is, indeed, bliss.
Last, at the end of the evening as I sat down to write this, add graphics and
music and get it ready for posting but remembered Pam said that no incoming
email has been received. I re-booted the
router, twice now. Nothing. Checked the other hardware for the incoming
fiber-optic line and discovered that the BATTERY
NEEDS REPLACEMENT.
THE BATTERY NEEDS REPLACEMENT. At 10:00PM when I want to sit down and relax
and use the internet LIKE I DO EVERY NIGHT the BATTERY
NEEDS REPLACEMENT.
Well. . . (De Capo Al Fine)

AMBIENCE & WINE
We received your letter dated 2/16/2012 on Saturday, 3/3/2012 and we're sorry to hear that your firm is unwilling to consider the position of a former good customer who could be a returning customer.
We talked with several 'Customer Service' representatives on 12/22/2011, were told and realized what we had done wrong not canceling the remaining inactive phone and thought it was settled. Then we got another bill which prompted another letter from us and a response from you dated 2/2/2012 that stated, in part, "Unfortunately, our Customer Relations team does not handle account cancellations." That was a surprise! Why didn't they tell us that on December 22nd?
We called again on 2/6/2012 and spoke with several more ‘Customer Service’ representatives and that was when someone did take the initiative to transfer us to the Customer Care Department to formally cancel the last phone.
While we would like to have the one remaining phone cancelled at the same time we transferred the other phones, we are willing to pay the charges due on that last remaining inactive telephone up to 12/22/2011. Also, since this issue has been in dispute since 12/22/2011, we ask that you kindly remove the past due charges. No tangible service was provided to the phone (ending in 4461) anyway between late summer 2011 and 2/6/2012 and that can be verified by your records.
You got us on a technicality for a phone that wasn't even in use.
We hope that you will kindly re-consider the situation with these facts in mind and forward a revised bill to 12/22/2011 for us to pay and consider this matter closed.
