Simple . . .

. . . solution
. . . tell her it's the law, "God's" word has now evolved, suspend her for non-performance.  Problem solved.

(from http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/clerk-who-denied-gay-marriage-licenses-has-been-divorced-multiple-n420216)
(Kim Davis') ". . . act of resistance has rocked her small Appalachia community 60 miles east of Lexington and made headlines (and continues to) nationwide, fed by a video of her denying a marriage license to David V. Moore and his partner of 17 years, David Ermold. The Tuesday confrontation sparked a protest inside the Rowan County Courthouse, with supporters of the couple and of Davis shouting over each other. A similar scene unfolded Wednesday, when a second same-sex couple asked for a marriage license. . .Davis, who worked as deputy clerk for 27 years before she was elected clerk in November, said in a written statement through her lawyers that she was committed to her job, but that issuing the license would violate "God's definition of marriage" and imperil her religious freedom. . . "I have no animosity toward anyone and harbor no ill will," said Davis, 49. "To me this has never been a gay or lesbian issue. It is about marriage and God's Word." .  . She refuses to resign. . . A federal judge has summoned Davis and her deputies to a hearing on Thursday. Same-sex couples who have sued Davis for marriage licenses have asked that she be held in contempt and fined, but not thrown in jail. . . "

She was jailed later that day.

Neat . . .

. . . simple . . .

. . . but misguided, irrationally dependent and counterintuitive!!

". . . We ask why there is violence in our schools but we have systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage? Because we've made it a place where we don't want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability -- that we're not just going to have be accountable to the police if they catch us, but one day we stand before, you know, a holy God in judgment. If we don't believe that, then we don't fear that. And so I sometimes, when people say, why did God let it happen. You know, God wasn't armed. He didn't go to the school. . . "  -Mike Huckabee

Tribe . . .

Mother always told us it's not nice to hate
She'd been practicing that golden rule for years
If we'd only treat each other how we want to be ourselves
God will love us
God will love us

When I first met you I was quite impressed
So much more than pretty face among the crowd
And it didn't happen overnight but the curtain slowly fell
And the colors of your rainbow were revealed

You are the tribis hippocriticus
We don't like you
Just trying to be honest

From your position of authority
You looked down and not across our great divide
With a smile upon your face and hands placed firmly on controls
You're so artistic
You're so artistic

Expertise portrayed for all appearances
Pure professional facade to face the crowd
But just beneath that thick veneer reside reality
The truth is evident and there for

You are the tribis hippocriticus
We don't like you
Just trying to be honest

'Cause that's the way we all should be
We're not islands
We're not stones
And just what will it take
To make you see this truth

Let me make it crystal clear how strongly that I feel
'Bout the way you take advantage for yourself
If you took the power devoted to your cold conniving ways
And you turned it
And you turned it
Totally around direct it to another place
Try to do what you have done unto yourself
Just a little understanding there are others here with you
This revolving's not designed for only you

You are the tribis hippocriticus
We don't like you
Just trying to be honest

Spanish . . .

(from Don Juan by George Gordon Lord Byron)

. . . "My boy!" said he, "amidst this motley crew
Of Georgians, Russians, Nubians, and what not,
All ragamuffins differing but in hue,
With whom it is our luck to cast our lot,
The only gentlemen seem I and you;
So let us be acquainted, as we ought:
If I could yield you any consolation,
'T would give me pleasure. — Pray, what is your nation?"

When Juan answer'd — "Spanish!" he replied,
"I thought, in fact, you could not be a Greek;
Those servile dogs are not so proudly eyed:
Fortune has play'd you here a pretty freak,
But that's her way with all men, till they're tried;
But never mind, — she'll turn, perhaps, next week;
She has served me also much the same as you,
Except that I have found it nothing new."

"Pray, sir," said Juan, "if I may presume,
What brought you here?" — "Oh! nothing very rare —
Six Tartars and a drag-chain." — "To this doom
But what conducted, if the question's fair,
Is that which I would learn." — "I served for some
Months with the Russian army here and there,
And taking lately, by Suwarrow's bidding,
A town, was ta'en myself instead of Widdin.". . .

"Have you no friends?" — "I had — but, by God's blessing,
Have not been troubled with them lately. Now
I have answer'd all your questions without pressing,
And you an equal courtesy should show.'
"Alas!" said Juan, "'t were a tale distressing,
And long besides." — "Oh! if 't is really so,
You're right on both accounts to hold your tongue;
A sad tale saddens doubly, when't is long.

"But droop not: Fortune at your time of life,
Although a female moderately fickle,
Will hardly leave you (as she's not your wife)
For any length of days in such a pickle.
To strive, too, with our fate were such a strife
As if the corn-sheaf should oppose the sickle:
Men are the sport of circumstances, when
The circumstances seem the sport of men.". . .

Any Respectable Roman . . .

(From Treatise On The Gods by H.L. Mencken)
". . . The Romans were not shocked to encounter gods who were thus more than half men, for they had plenty of their own, as well as hundreds of other kinds.  At Rome, the cross-roads of the world, all the gods of East and West were mingled.  There were so many of them that no one believed in them any more, not even the priests. Some had come from Greece or Asia; others were no more than men raised to divinity by a decree of the Senate. When an emperor died, his body was burned on a great pyre, and an eagle was released, to carry his soul to the sky; thereafter he was a god. Some of the later emperors were deified while they still lived, like Alexander of Macedon, the pharaohs of Egypt, and the mikados of Japan. The truth is that any respectable Roman, by the simple act of dying, might become a god; all that he needed was children to worship his manes. Thus the Roman pantheon swarmed like the German Valhalla, and was rocked by the same tumults and scandals. In it were traces of every variety of religion ever practiced by man, from the bald animism of savages to the most highly sophisticated of the cults of Asia Minor.  The primitive Earth Mother, or Terra Mater, under the name of Ceres (= the Greek Demeter), and the sun-god and rain-god, joined in Jupiter, survived side by side with local vine-gods who had been emperors only a few years before, and roaring drunk in the streets of Rome. . ."

Literally . . .

(From 'Born of a Woman' by John Shelby Spong)
". . . A literalized myth is a doomed myth.  Its truth cannot be rescued. Literalism is not even a benign alternative for contemporary Christians.  It is, in the modern world, nothing less than an enemy to faith in Jesus Christ. It is a belief system built on ignorance, which acts as if God, the infinite mystery, can be defined in the words of any human being or in the thought forms of a particular era.  Literalism is a claim that God's eternal truth has been, or can be, captured in the time-limited concepts of human history.  It is to pretend that knowledge is finite and that knowledge does not therefore explode in infinite new directions daily. Biblical fundamentalism reduces the religious options for people to the shallow levels of propositional truth and then fills them with a religious certainty that can be maintained only by a defensive, aggressive hysteria.  When that certainty explodes, fundamentalism leaves the would-be fundamentalist with no alternative save a Godless despair . . . "

If You're There . . .

The archbishop of Canterbury - the spiritual leader of the world's 80 million Anglican Christians - has admitted he sometimes doubts whether God actually exists. Justin Welby made the comments during a relaxed interview in front of an audience at Bristol Cathedral, in England. "There are moments, sure, where you think, 'Is there a God? Where is God?'" The archbishop, who is also the leader of the Church of England, added that his admission was "probably not what the archbishop of Canterbury should be saying."

The speech was made last Friday and uploaded to YouTube. It was first highlighted by the Guardian newspaper on Thursday. Welby said he found himself doubting the existence of God during a recent jog. "The other day I was praying over something as I was running and I ended up saying to God: 'Look, this is all very well but isn't it about time you did something – if you're there' – which is probably not what the archbishop of Canterbury should be saying" . . .

The Letter . . .

. . . no, it'd not Sesame Street . . .

That "A" word, atheist, always scared me as a child.  I always felt sorry for people who did not believe in my 'God'.  But I guess I have to accept that if you don't believe in a 'theistic' invasive god, you MUST be an "A-THEIST".  So be it.  Maybe that's what I am. So where do these type-"A" people find hope? . . . many places . . .

(from http://ragingrev.com/2010/03/regarding-hope-the-atheists-view/)
". . . People give me hope daily. Sometimes people take some of my hope away, but when we make progress toward a brighter future it is renewed. When we do good things to one another or fight for causes we deem just, I am overwhelmed by hope. When one of us spends his or her life’s work on developing cures for diseases and cancers it gives me hope that we care about one another, and that if we keep doing so eventually we’ll get to our next step toward a society that can be considered appropriate.

I have a hope that one day our species will find a way to cope with the problems of life without a need for religion and that also one day there will be social justice for all people. I have hope that at some point in the near future that technology will be developed that can provide nutritious food for all people and that we will use that technology to actually feed people. In the idea that our prejudices and our failures will one day be forgotten. . . "

God's . . .

. . . portfolio is quite diversified . . .

(From: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/alabama-officials-pray-for-coal, By Caitlin MacNeal Published July 29, 2014, 12:06 PM EDT)
". . . Two Alabama officials on Monday asked residents to pray that the state can help block the Environmental Protection Agency's new regulations on carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, AL.com reported.

Public Service Commission President Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh slammed the new regulations."We will not stand for what they are doing to our way of life in Alabama," she said during a press conference at the Alabama Coal Association. Later in the conference, Cavanaugh asked residents to pray for the state."I hope all the citizens of Alabama will be in prayer that the right thing will be done," she said.

Cavanaugh, along with other Alabama officials, will testify at an EPA hearing on the regulations in Atlanta on Tuesday. PSC commissioner-elect Chip Beeker said that Alabama's coal was created by God and charged that the government shouldn't interfere with God's plan, according to AL.com. "Who has the right to take what God's given a state?" he asked. . ."

. . . even God needs a decent return on his (HER?) investment . . .
