. . . Oho working hard. . .
Do you mean you were just lying there?
Out of reach of anyone who cares
They have bound you with their loving arms
In the distance I still hear you sound the alarm
Can you see yourself more clearly now?
As if you stepped out of a cloud
Beginning when it seems to end
Above below merging
Your mind doesn't feel
Your fingers don't think
Your eyes do not touch
While the heartbeat goes skipping away
It's now and then you're living
While you wait start the giving
Prove it it's always there
Burning grey without its flare
Obligated but one hand is tied
Constant chattering within your mind
How to leave it no one cares
To hear the silly language spoken there
Your mind doesn't feel
Your fingers don't think
Your eyes do not touch
While the heartbeat goes skipping away
It's now and then you're living
While you wait start the giving
Prove it it's always there
Burning grey without its flare
There's a love that empties its own veins
As they spend they fill up again
The flow traffics through eternity
Carries on in all purity
Now you feel and you think
You see and you touch
With a matrix that springs from your heart
To your hands through your head
Burning grey
It's now and then you're living
While you wait start the giving
Prove it it's always there
Burning grey without its flare

We complain the floor's uneven When we simply don't know how to dance In a sentimental treason Each word is charged as every glance My foes approach and I start singing How do I defend against my friends? The treasure buried where I fumbled The ball into the tiger's den Maddened fingers spar With the laughing strings I was very close but no cigar We were on the corner with our cup The lad with light feet made the girl light up Putting the pep back into the step Where you would leap is now where I have leapt I'm an easy victim of nostalgia I was making friends among the blind The filament was bright at high noon Radiating from the signs Maddened fingers spar With the laughing strings It was very close but no cigar Find the low denominator With a hundred pairs of eyes Leaning on an arm that failed us Against the grain it's common life I was choking on imagination Still I know I get the gist Sifting through a tired memory In Paris turning with the twist

The poet said . . .
. . . trailing clouds of glory we come and go
What do we really know
Smiling so brightly betraying the years
They have still to try
Those little men
with that glory
Riddles and bedtime stories
Little men
With that glory
In their eyes
Innocence and wisdom coexist inside their minds
Together with appreciation for the the things we miss
In our haste and our big business
Always in awe of the wheels spinning round
With a laugh for the foolish things big men do
The poet said trailing clouds of glory we come and go
What do we really know
Smiling so brightly betraying the years
They have still to try
Those little men
with that glory
Riddles and bedtime stories
Little men
With that glory
In their eyes
Everybody thinks about the world and what the future brings
Who really knows the plan and all its subtleties
We're really smart at least that's what we think
Going our own way in blissful retreat
From the prospect of seeing things too clearly
The poet said trailing clouds of glory we come and go
What do we really know
Smiling so brightly betraying the years
They have still to try
Those little men
with that glory
Riddles and bedtime stories
Little men
With that glory
In their eyes

Maybe I'm Milking It, but. . .
. . .I can't help it.
THE END OF THE WORLD
Why does the sun go on shining?
Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don't they know it's the end of the world,
'Cause you don't love me any more?
Why do the birds go on singing?
Why do the stars glow above?
Don't they know it's the end of the world.
It ended when I lost your love.
I wake up in the morning and I wonder,
Why everything's the same as it was.
I can't understand. No, I can't understand,
How life goes on the way it does.
Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world.
It ended when you said goodbye.
Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world.
It ended when you said goodbye.
by Arthur Kent and Sylvia Dee
performed by Skeeter Davis

Catalog Girl
HER EYES SAY COME CLOSER
HER HAIR FALLS DOWN HER SHOULDERS
LIKE A BLANKET ON HER SKIN
IF YOU DO YOU'LL NEVER WIN
SHE LOOKS THE SAME AT EVERY MAN
THAT LOOK SAYS I'M CONFECTION
YOU CAN'T HAVE A TASTE UNLESS YOUR DOCTOR SAYS YOU CAN
HER LIPS PURSED EVER SO SLIGHTLY
YOU THINK SHE WANTS TO INVITE YOU OUT
TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH HER
THE WHOLE ROUTINE BECOMES A BLUR
SHE SAYS IT ALL WITHOUT A WORD
SHE LOOKS LIKE PURE PERFECTION
AND YOU'LL NEVER EVER SEE THE LIKES OF HER AGAIN
BUT SHE'S MINE I KNOW SHE'LL NEVER LEAVE ME
SHE'S FINE AND SHE'LL NEVER DECEIVE ME
OTHER EYES ADMIRE AND DESIRE HER TOO
AND SHE SMILES IN RESPONSE TO ALL GLANCES
FROM THOSE WHO CARE TO SEE
ALL OF HER DELICATE LINES
ON THE PAGE WHERE YOU'LL FIND
THE TWO DIMENSIONS OF MY
CATALOG GIRL
THEY ALL SAY SHE'S NOT BRIGHT
BUT WHEN THE SPOTLIGHT IS LIT
YOU CAN SEE HER BUSINESS SENSE
IT'S SINCERE INTELLIGENCE
SHE WORKS SO HARD AT WHAT SHE DOES
INTENSITY AND CONCENTRATION ON HER FACE
SHOW SHE IS SO MUCH MORE THAN FLUFF
BUT SHE'S MINE I KNOW SHE'LL NEVER LEAVE ME
SHE'S FINE AND SHE'LL NEVER DECEIVE ME
OTHER EYES ADMIRE AND DESIRE HER TOO
AND SHE SMILES IN RESPONSE TO ALL GLANCES
FROM THOSE WHO CARE TO SEE
ALL OF HER DELICATE LINES
ON THE PAGE WHERE YOU'LL FIND
THE TWO DIMENSIONS OF MY
CATALOG GIRL
HER SHAPE'S LIKE A TAPE
SHE WEIGHS ONE HUNDRED EIGHT
AND SHE LOOKS SO APPEALING
IN CLOTHING REVEALING
HER HEART'S ON HER SLEEVE
THAT'S WHAT YOU SHOULD BELIEVE
SHE PRACTICES THAT COME ON LOOK
IMPROVES IT MORE IN EVERY BOOK
SHE IS THE EPITOME OF CATALOG GIRL
ONE DAY SOON SHE WILL NO
LONGER POSSESS ALL THE ASSETS OF THOSE
BYGONE YOUTHFUL DAYS
THE YEARS WILL PASS JUST LIKE A PHASE
NOTHING BUT MEMORIES IN A HAZE
AND THOUGH HER STAR WILL FADE
A LITTLE GLORY WILL REMAIN UPON A TABLE NEAR THE CHAISE
BUT SHE'S MINE I KNOW SHE'LL NEVER LEAVE ME
SHE'S FINE AND SHE'LL NEVER DECEIVE ME
OTHER EYES ADMIRE AND DESIRE HER TOO
AND SHE SMILES IN RESPONSE TO ALL GLANCES
