Weather . . .

. . . or not? . . .

(from http://www.snopes.com/politics/science/coleman.asp)
". . . John Coleman is a former television weather forecaster who worked in that field for over six decades, at a number of different TV stations across the U.S., until he suddenly retired from his last job at KUSI-TV in San Diego in April 2014. Coleman pioneered the use of such now-standard TV weather forecasting elements as onscreen satellite technology and computer graphics, and he was also instrumental in the founding of The Weather Channel (TWC) on cable television, serving as that channel’s CEO and President during its establishment and its first year of operation. . . John Coleman also became, in later years, an outspoken critic of the global warming issue. . . "all of it, comes down to their claim that the carbon dioxide in the exhaust from your car and in the smoke stacks from our power plants is destroying the climate of planet Earth. What an amazing fraud; what a scam. . . There is no significant man made global warming. There has not been any in the past, there is none now and there is no reason to fear any in the future. The climate of Earth is changing. It has always changed. But mankind’s activities have not overwhelmed or significantly modified the natural forces. . . ". . .
Although this item is superficially “true” in the sense that the words quoted above were indeed written by John Coleman, the statement that they “refute” global warming (i.e., prove it to be false) is something of an exaggeration. As Coleman’s critics have noted, he does not hold a degree in climatology or any related discipline, nor has he studied or conducted any research in that field; he merely parrots arguments advanced by others:  Both Fox News and CNN have recently invited John Coleman, one of the founders of The Weather Channel and former TV meteorologist, to express his views about climate change to their national audiences. Coleman is simply an awful choice to discuss this issue. He lacks credentials, many of his statements about climate change completely lack substance or mislead . . . Coleman hasn’t published a single peer-reviewed paper pertaining to climate change science. His career, a successful and distinguished one, was in TV weather for over half a century, prior to his retirement in San Diego last April. If you watch Coleman on-camera, his skill is obvious. He speaks with authority, injects an irreverent sense of humor and knows how to connect with his viewer. . . But a climate scientist, he is not. . . For the many Americans who don’t understand the difference between weather — the short-term behavior of the atmosphere — and climate — the broader system in which weather happens — Coleman’s professional background made him a genuine authority on global warming. It was an impression that Coleman encouraged. Global warming “is not something you ‘believe in,'” he wrote in his essay. “It is science; the science of meteorology. This is my field of life-long expertise.” . . . Except that it wasn’t. Coleman had spent half a century in the trenches of TV weathercasting; he had once been an accredited meteorologist, and remained a virtuoso forecaster. . . "

So-Called . . .

. . . government . . .

The "so-called" President [Clinton 65,844,954 (48.2%)/Trump 62,979,879 (46.1%)], formerly a "so-called" successful businessman [Trump Airlines, Beverages, The Game, casinos, magazine, mortgage, steaks, travel site, comms company, Trump Tower Tampa, vodka] has 'stocked his cabinet' with "so-called" experts in multiple fields.  Some are Betsy DeVos, "so-called" education reformer [no professional experience in public schools, never attended public schools or sent her own children to public schools, has never held public office], Top "so-called" strategist Steve Bannon [promised to go after big banks, worked for one of the biggest-Goldman Sachs], "so-called" housing expert Ben Carson [remarked that "Obamacare is really I think the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery"] and "so-called" justice expert Jeff Sessions [The Justice Department announced this month it's no longer fighting an injunction blocking Obama-era guidance that protects transgender students under Title IX].

Serious ?. . .

When seeking advice on a serious topic, it only follows that you approach a "serious expert" on said topic.   DOESN'T IT??!!

(from http://townhall.com/columnists/larryelder/2012/07/26/yes_guns_kill_but_how_often_are_they_used_in_selfdefense)
" . . . Asked by a London news anchor about America's gun culture, Ice-T said: "Well, I'd give up my gun when everybody does. Doesn't that make sense? ... If there were guns here, would you want to be the only person without one?"

Anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Channel 4 News: "So do you carry guns routinely at home?"

Ice-T: "Yeah, it's legal in the United States. It's part of our Constitution. You know, the right to bear arms is because that's the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It's to protect yourself from the police."

Anchor: "And do you see any link between that and these sorts of (Aurora-type) incidents?"

Ice-T: "No. Nah. Not really. You know what I'm saying, if somebody wants to kill people, you know, they don't need a gun to do it."

Anchor: "It makes it easier, though, doesn't it?"

Ice-T: "Not really. You can strap explosives on your body. They do that all the time."

Anchor: "So when there's the inevitable backlash of the anti-gun lobby, as a result of this instance, as there always is--"

Ice-T: "Well, that's not going to change anything. ... The United States is based on guns." . . ."

Yeah, so what!!. . .

. . .$600 million to be cut from the military. I’m no expert on this, but I do know two things. I know my gut and I know how to budget.

My gut tells me that war is wrong. It’s just plain wrong. Now to this, the military consultants, the conservative think tanks, the republican party (and almost half the people I know) will say,“but we must be prepared to defend ourselves.” And maybe surprisingly to them, I actually agree. But invading Iraq, sending troops to Libya and threatening military action against Iran cannot even loosely be described as defending ourselves. Oh there may be all kinds of bad things happening in these places and yes, they may even reach us eventually. But until they reach us, and ONLY WHEN they do reach us, will defending ourselves actually become one of our options. And at that point, it will most certainly be a good choice.

But NOT before!

Fatalistic though it may sound, any world in which we must interpret (or define) the military actions we have taken many times in the past as DEFENSIVE, is not a world in which I (for one?) choose to survive. Any imperialistic entity that believes (in this year of 2011) that they can truly and indefinitely subdue ALL countries, territories or federations with whom they do not agree, or who chose NOT to do the kind of business asked of them, by sheer brute force has not learned ANYTHING from written history.

That’s the GUT part.

The budget part is quite short, simple and to the aesthetically-inclined, sweet. In order to balance a budget some spending must be reduced. Logically, the areas in which the MOST is spent would be the places to begin. Cut, stop, end, fine.

Have you ever. . .

. . . purchased one of those 'how to succeed in the XXX business' books. I have. And I probably will again. And even though the author's name may not be readily recognizable to you - after all, you want to succeed in THAT particular area which implies you have NOT yet succeeded in it, THEREFORE you logically would NOT recognize their name - you buy it anyway. But I, as I'm sure you have as well, sometimes suspect that if this person was actually qualified to offer such advice, why didn't she/he succeed in the XXX business in the first place?

And the worldwideweb makes it even easier to be an 'expert.'

No matter what your interest, passion or hobby, there is a guru lurking in the shadows ready to POUNCE and take your money for imparting their great wisdom.

Googling either "Make It" or "How To Make It" in the XXX industry, produces. . .
Music Industry - About 23,200,000 results
NBA - About 153,000,000 results
NFL - About 116,000,000 results
Fashion Industry - About 11,800,000 results
Rap Game - About 4,310,000 results
UFC - About 20,300,000 results
MLB - About 84,600,000 results
Film Industry - About 14,500,000 results

Well, you get the idea.

There certainly are probably thousands (maybe more) in the music business, and countless other businesses, just dying to get into your (and my) wallet. This plethora of knowledge, wisdom and beneficence now at our fingertips is certainly a wonder of the post technological world. But I must ask, if you've really "MADE IT" in your specific field, why do you need my money?
