The Suspense . . .

. . . is killing me.  How 'bout you?

Does it really matter if he 'Accepts' the results of the election?  The election is the election.  (Much like the rose.)  He can go to court if he wants.  But is this really NEWS???!!!!

Dear . . .

. . . NPR,

During a recent, morning show interview of a political, Christian, rapper, your reporter asked his guest if he would be voting in November. The musician said that yes, he would, first carefully choosing his local representatives and then added that he will cast a vote for a presidential candidate, but that candidate would not be Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. To that, your reporter responded to the effect that, 'aren't you concerned that in so doing, you are not participating in the election at all, or not voting?'  To his credit, the rapper had a quick, considered and intelligent response which in short said simply - NO.  I, for one, agree with the latter's response and find your reporter's question (as many other questions and posits I have heard from them during this election cycle) contemptible.

". . . many voters will be looking at third party alternatives this year. But most will categorically reject minor party candidates, dismissing a vote for anyone other than Clinton or Trump as a wasted ballot. Such thinking is deeply flawed and very dangerous for America’s future. . . The belief that voting for a candidate destined to lose is a waste confuses voting with betting. Unlike the lottery, there is no immediate reward for picking the winning candidate. And, by voting for the “lesser of two evils,” each voter marginally helps a bad candidate take office. . ."

Listen . . .

. . . to one of your own . . .

(by Ronald Reagan, 1980 at http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=85199)
". . . The election will be over soon, autumn will become winter, this year will fade into next . . . and yet, the decisions we make tomorrow will determine our country's course through what promises to be one of the most perilous decades in our history. . . What kind of country, what kind of legacy will we leave to . . . young men and women who will live out America's third century as a nation? . . . In thinking about these questions, many Americans seem to be wondering, searching. . . feeling frustrated and perhaps even a little afraid. . . Many of us are unhappy about our worsening economic problems, about the constant crisis atmosphere in our foreign policy, about our diminishing prestige around the globe, about the weakness in our economy and national security that jeopardizes world peace, about our lack of strong, straight-forward leadership. . . Americans . . . seek a vision of a better America, a vision of society that frees the energies and ingenuity of our people while it extends compassion to the lonely, the desperate, and the forgotten. . . No person who understands the American presidency can possibly hope to make every decision or tend to every detail in the national government. But he can promise to bring to government the best leaders in this nation and put them to work for the American people. . ."

Careful . . .

. . . with the vitriol and venom . . .

(from http://www.snopes.com/politics/clintons/zeifman.asp)
". . . (Jerry) Zeifman (Judiciary Committee Chief Counsel in the impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon) said he maintained a transcribed diary during the impeachment proceedings, which he drew up upon two decades later in authoring the 1998 book Without Honor: The Impeachment of President Nixon and the Crimes of Camelot. That book makes it clear that Zeifman did not like (personally and professionally) a good many of the people he worked with during the Watergate investigation; in particular, he continually butted heads over issues of procedures and legal approaches with his boss, Judiciary Committee Chairman Peter Rodino, and Hillary's (Clinton, then Rodham) supervisor, Impeachment Inquiry Special Counsel John Doar. Zeifman accused both Rodino and Doar (as well as Hillary Rodham and others), without evidence, of supposedly dragging their feet on impeachment and "tanking" the investigation of President Nixon's wrongdoings, for reasons ranging from bribes offered by the Nixon White House to help with re-election bids, to a desire to enhance the Democrats' chances of winning the 1976 presidential election by keeping a discredited Nixon in office until the end of his term, to a plot to keep Richard Nixon from defending himself by bringing up past instances of presidential abuses of power (which would include dirt on the Kennedys). . ."

Beware! . . .

Discovered this article, in various places online, which appears to originate either with the Clinton campaign or from inside the clique in the Democratic Party . . .

(http://bsalert.com/news/2753/8_Reasons_Why_Serious_People_Cant_Support_Bernie_Sanders.html) ". . . I dig Bernie Sanders. I've always loved him and his perspective. I agree with 99% of what he promotes in terms of long-term policy. But I still find myself uneasy with his candidacy. As many of those on the left and the "disenfranchised" are "feeling the Bern" and hopping on the Bernie Sanders bandwagon, theres (sic) a schism developing among those who pine for social change. It seemed hard to fathom that a candidate that has been so succinctly enumerating many of the problems people on the left, center and right have been harping about has now become so contentious? I gotta be honest.. to me it feels like another Deja Vu moment. How I felt when I heard all my friends get so excited about Ralph Nader in 2000, and how his fresh rhetoric was going to change the political landcape (sic)... It doesn't seem to make sense. Even among the editors at BSAlert, there's contention on the value of a Sanders presidency. Allow us to provide you with what we think are some troubling issues with Sanders and why we feel, as much as we love what he says, In my opinion (though not the opinion of everybody here) Sanders is a pied piper more than he is a path to change. . . If all you want is Bernie elected; if all you care about is "sending the message" ok, I can't argue with that. But if you care about actually seeing his policy ideas executed, and moving in a more progressive direction during the next 4-8 years, you have to at least be open to these arguments . . . "

. . . what this article fails to openly state is that, if you like Bernie Sanders and want to begin a real change, and don't vote for Bernie Sanders because of 'arguments' such as those stated in this article, then you will get MORE OF THE SAME.

Some of the fatuous points made in the article include (with my retorts following):
1. What Bernie Sanders promises he cannot deliver

No president accomplishes everything promised.  Bernie Sanders stands for removing big business from government.  PERIOD!

2. Like those on the right, Sanders is a divider, not a uniter

Nice try, equating Bernie Sanders to the Republican clowns.  Doesn't fly though.  Of course Bernie Sanders is a divider.  But only in that he divides those that want to remove big business from government and those (read:  the authors of THIS article) who do not.

3. There's too much at stake in this election

No argument here.  But in my mind, not for the same reasons stated in the article.

4. Sanders does not mobilize minority voters

You wait and see, pal!

5. Sanders has yet to face the media hate machine

Another GREAT reason not to vote for Bernie Sanders????????

6. Bernie Sanders is old. The age card will be played by his opponents.

Two words:  Ronald Reagan

. . .  I'm tired of this now.  You certainly have better things to read.

Afterword . . .

(from Outsider in the White House by Bernie Sanders with Huck Gutman, Afterword by John Nichols)
". . . Sanders was outspent and crudely attacked in the 2006 race - especially for his lonely votes to defend civil liberties. Yet he secured the Senate seat that for a century and a half had been won only be Republicans, taking 65 percent of the vote to just 32 percent for Tarrant. Sanders won every county in the state by a landslide, and carried even conservative communities.  All those town hall meetings over all those years, all that talk about kitchen-table economics, had forged a connection that could not be severed by big money and negative ads. "Maybe that's the lesson of Bernie," explained Margrete Strand Rangnes. "He doesn't worry so much about winning one election. He's in it for the long haul, because that's how you build the awareness and the trust that allows you to get beyond the spin and talk to people about the real issues in their lives. . . "

Feel the burn?

Remember . . .

(from http://www.androidworld.com/prod39.htm)
". . . The US presidential election is NOT one election.  It is really 51 separate elections which are held on the same day.   The pollsters obviously have forgotten this fact.   The winner of the popular vote count does NOT necessarily win the election.   Just ask AL GORE.  Four candidates for president have won the popular vote and yet have lost the presidential election. . . In 48 states and DC, the winner of the popular vote receives ALL the electors of that state (or DC). Only Maine and Nebraska give electoral votes proportionally.   The candidate who receives a majority of the electoral votes wins the election - NOT the candidate who receives the largest number of popular votes. . . "

Dear . . .

. . . NPR,
In the interest of TRUE objectivity, I would suggest a correction be made regarding a comment made on your show. The male moderator, interviewing a political correspondent on Friday, September 11, 2015 said something to the effect that, 'Hillary Clinton may have a rival for the Democratic Presidential nomination in Joe Biden' implying that there are NO other Democratic candidates.  Last time I checked, there were a few; Martin O'Malley and Bernie Sanders are two..  Please do not allow your on-air talent to decide any elections for the American people in advance.  This flies in the face of one of the principles NPR is supposed to champion - OBJECTIVITY.

Fail . . .

NPR, of all media outlets, the very one frequently held as the gold standard of electronic journalism, has failed us. . . and this is not the first time. According to NPR, Hilary Clinton is the only 'household' name Democrat considering a run for the presidency.  There you have it. Case closed. Over-simplified?  Yes!  True though?  Yes!

But there are other, (and yes, possibly BETTER-qualified) well-suited candidates which NPR has failed to tell us about.  Not only have they failed, they have subliminally told their audience that there is virtually no choice.  Is that what NPR is SUPPOSED to tell us???

One of the (many) problems with our electoral system is the media's heavy influence over it.  A candidate is not serious if he can't afford the millions it takes to wage a campaign, which includes paying the media for the exposure it provides.

In spite of what NPR or any other 'news' outlet tells you, there truly ARE other potential Democratic candidates such as Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Luiz Gutierrez, Al Franken, Tim Kaine & John Kerry. . .and don't forget, independent ones either.

The List . . .

Athough his list is large, some links don't work, some sources are dubious and some arguments are specious, Dan, From Squirrel Hill does make a particularly good point in the second paragraph below about additional political parties. . .

(from http://danfromsquirrelhill.wordpress.com/2013/08/15/obama-252/)
". . . Every President, every politician, and every human being tells lies and engages in acts of hypocrisy. But Barack Obama does these things to a far greater degree than anyone else that I have ever known of. His campaign promises were so much better sounding than anyone else’s – no lobbyists in his administration, waiting five days before signing all non-emergency bills so people would have time to read them, putting health care negotiations on C-SPAN, reading every bill line by line to make sure money isn’t being wasted, prosecution of Wall St. criminals, ending raids against medical marijuana in states where it’s legal, high levels of transparency. Obama’s promises of these wonderful things sounded inspiring and sincere. They sounded so much better than the promises of any other President. So when Obama broke these promises, it felt so much worse than when other Presidents broke their promises.

In the 2008 United States election, I wrote in Ron Paul for President. In the 2012 election, I voted for Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson. Those who are of a more leftist persuasion than myself might want to consider voting for the Green Party in future elections. . . "
