A Different . . .

". . . This isn’t about policies with which I disagree. . . You are asking me to consciously give up on any hope I may have of living a sane life in our country. . . To vote for her in the primaries, I would need to believe that the establishment on both the right and the left have so thoroughly strangled the political system that it is no longer “reasonable” to even try for reform. I have to be so scared of political opponents gaining power that it is worth it to sacrifice even the hope of being able to get ahead, have a savings cushion, access healthcare, send our kids to college, retire, or just not feel like we’re constantly living on a knife’s edge, all because of fear of a potential future. . . If you think it is reasonable to fear the opposition more than to hope for having a better life — then I’m guessing you live a fairly comfortable life and don’t feel strong motivation to change it. . . maybe you don’t really understand what you’re asking of me when you advise me to make decisions based on “practicality.” And notice, I’m not even saying you’re wrong. What I am saying is that for me to choose Hillary over Bernie right now is to literally choose to give up on the best chance we have ever had to finally become a reasonable, civilized nation, and say instead “No, we can’t do it, I am too scared of what might happen. . .” "

Yet he secured the Senate seat that for a century and a half had been won only be Republicans, taking 65 percent of the vote to just 32 percent for Tarrant. Sanders won every county in the state by a landslide, and carried even conservative communities. All those town hall meetings over all those years, all that talk about kitchen-table economics, had forged a connection that could not be severed by big money and negative ads. "Maybe that's the lesson of Bernie," explained Margrete Strand Rangnes. "He doesn't worry so much about winning one election. He's in it for the long haul, because that's how you build the awareness and the trust that allows you to get beyond the spin and talk to people about the real issues in their lives. . . "

The bill calls it a "state-based American Health Security Program." However, the assertion that it would empower Republican governors to take away individual’s health insurance is misleading. . .Clinton’s statement makes it sound like Sanders’ plan would leave many people uninsured, which is antithetical to the goal of Sanders’ proposal: universal health care. . . We rate her claim Mostly False."

". . . For a hundred years, the white workers of the South were the most exploited white workers in America. They were paid the lowest wages, they endured the worst working conditions, their housing was abysmal, their kids went to the most backward schools, and very few could send their children to college. But what did they have? They were given "niggers" to hate and look down on, "niggers" who couldn't vote, drink at their water fountains, use the same bathrooms, or sit up front in the buses or movie theaters.

The political, economic, social, and educational systems of the South enforced those divisions and continually fed the antagonisms. Above all things, white workers were encouraged to despise, and protect themselves from their black neighbors, or face losing what little they had. The rich folks in the the South - the bankers the manufacturers, the cottonfield owners - laughed all the way to the bank. . .political activists. . . brought black and white workers together to fight for justice. They did this not only because they believed in civil rights and equal opportunity but also because they undersood that real economic and political transformation would never be achieved as long as whites and blacks were busy fighting each other - rather than their common oppressors. . . "

Family . . .

. . . values??

(Bernie Sanders on Republican family values)
". . . When a mother has a baby and is unable to spend time with that child during the first weeks and months of his or her life, that is not a family value.

When a wife is diagnosed with cancer and a husband cannot get time off of work to take care of her, that is not a family value.

When a mother is forced to send her sick child to school because she cannot afford to stay home with her, that is not a family value.

When a husband, wife, and kids, during the course of an entire year, are unable to spend any time together on vacation, that is not a family value.

The Republican agenda for families is really an attack on everything that a family is supposed to stand for.

When it comes to basic workplace protections and family benefits, workers in every other major industrialized country in the world get a better deal than workers in the United States. That should be an embarrassment to anyone who wants to talk seriously about family values in this country. . ."
