Justice?. . .

(from The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell)
". . . I don't engage in any type of behavior that should place me in a cop's crosshairs. I don't live in "one of those neighborhoods" or hang out with a "bad crowd" (unless you count comedians). I am not involved in felonious activity. I'm not bragging. I'm just boring. And I'm not playing the game of "respectability politics" here. Because I know that not being a part of criminal activity is no assurance that you will go home safely after an interaction with a cop. Because "boring" is no assurance of safety when you are Black. What's more boring than shopping at Walmart? That's what John Crawford III was doing when police shot him in the back while he was on his cell phone talking to his girlfriend. What was his crime? He was carrying a gun. . . in Ohio, an open-carry state where people are legally allowed to carry guns. . . openly. Why did he have a gun in Walmart? Because Walmart sells guns. I think he was at the very least thinking about buying the gun. I don't really know, because a customer saw a Black man carrying a gun in the store and called 911. The cops showed up and shot him immediately, without warning, apparently finding him guilty of attempting to practice capitalism. And the thing that really sucks is that it was an air rifle. At most, he was in danger of putting his eye out. . . "

Sticky . . .

. . . situations . . .

Sticky place to be
Sticky relationships
From which you can't get free

Stick to the point
Have a little fun
Until there's disagreement
Then just stick to your guns

Killers . . .

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin thinks video games, song lyrics and social media kill more people than guns (my interpretation of his statements in a recent post).  No action whatsoever on gun control is necessary, because THAT would not reduce the number of innocent deaths from school shootings. (!!!???)  While I'm not a fan of violent games, and would much prefer promotion of games that require critical thought instead, does Mr. Bevin truly believe that enacting and enforcing regulation of video games, song lyrics and social media (read 1st Amendment Rights) is a practical and effective route to reducing school shootings?  Whatever his answer, you can rest assured he will take much too much of your valuable time and much too many words to express it.

Contrast . . .

. . . to Parkland . . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/we-just-have-heal-different-way-santa-fe-parkland-diverge-n876416)
". . . I don’t think guns are the problem — I think people are the problem,” Carvey, 16, a student at Santa Fe High School, said. “Even if we did more gun laws, people who are sick enough to do something like this are still going to figure out a way to do it. So it doesn’t matter.”. . . “No matter how many laws there are, you can always break them,” said Nora Tulo, 15, a student at the high school. . . “I feel we just have to heal a different way,” Carvey said of the difference between the response in Santa Fe and Parkland. “Their way was to make a change, march. Our way is we just need time, we need time to process, to get everything together, to breathe and understand.”. . . We’re not huge gun people, but we’re not for gun control. . . "

Denial . . .

(from http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2016/jul/06/17-things-donald-trump-said-and-then-denied-saying/)
". . . John McCain is not a war hero . . . "Four times, I said he is a hero," he said on July 19 on ABC.  . . Trump said, "He is a war hero because he was captured." In other words, Trump also cherry-picked his interview and misquoted himself. . .

Calling women ‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘slobs’ and ‘disgusting animals’. . . at the first GOP presidential debate in August 2015. . . "Well, some of the things that she (Megyn Kelly) said, I didn't say, okay?" Trump said on Meet the Press. . .

Implying China was part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership . . . When asked about the pending trade deal with 12 Pacific Rim nations at a Republican primary debate in Milwaukee, Trump took to bashing China. . . "You know, we might want to point out that China’s not part of this deal," quipped former rival Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. But a day later, Trump denied suggesting China was a signatory. . .

Using a curse word to describe Ted Cruz . .  . Trump denied using "a very bad word" — a synonym for cat — at a rally in Manchester, N.H., and demanded an apology from Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin for suggesting he had done so. . . .(but) There’s video evidence. An audience member called Trump rival Ted Cruz a slur for a woman. Trump repeated the p---- word after telling fans it was a "terrible" word in mock outrage. . .

As Democrats mounted efforts to pass gun control legislation in the wake of the Orlando shooting, Trump brought up the proverbial "good guy with a gun" argument, which goes that mass casualties could have been avoided if one civilian in the club were armed. . . Under scrutiny for his comment, Trump insisted he meant armed security, not clubgoers. . . In an interview on CNN, Trump said armed "people" in general, possibly exercising concealed carry, could have prevented the tragedy, and he ignored a reporter when she pointed out that there was an armed security guard in the club. . .

On having one of the world’s best memories . . . To cap it all, Trump ironically can’t remember bragging about his memory as revealed in his deposition for a Trump University lawsuit. Here’s what he said, according to transcript released in late June:
"Q. You’ve stated though, that you have one of the best memories in the world?
A. I don’t know. Did I use that expression?
Q. Yes.
A. Where? Could I see it?
Q. I can play the video of you reporting it.
A. Did I say I have a great memory or one of the best in the world.
Q. "One of the best in the world" is what the reporter quoted you as saying
A. I don’t remember saying that. As good as my memory is, I don’t remember that, but I have a good memory." . . . "

The Times . . .

. . . they are a-changing. . .

". . . Former Chief Justice Warren Burger, a conservative, said the idea that there was an individual right to bear arms was "a fraud." If he were writing the Bill of Rights now, he said in 1991, "There wouldn't be any such thing as the Second Amendment." . . . He declared on PBS that the Second Amendment "has been the subject of one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word fraud, on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime.". . . But that all changed with some scholarly work and cases brought by gun rights advocates. . . In 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller, the court said there is an individual constitutional right to have a handgun in one's home for self-protection. Two years later, in a second case, the court made clear that its decision applied to the states as well as the federal government. . ."

Obviously . . .

. . .  one last, desperate gasp for breath before dying . . .

". . . the NRA posted a short membership-drive video along with a brief message.
"Stand and Fight for our Kids' Safety by Joining NRA," it said. "Today's protests aren't spontaneous. Gun-hating billionaires and Hollywood elites are manipulating and exploiting children as part of their plan to DESTROY the Second Amendment and strip us of our right to defend ourselves and our loved ones.". . . Mentality . . .

. . . of the old west . . .

(Thanks to Duck Baker - from http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3484064/Pro-gun-poster-girl-shot-four-year-old-son-driving-Florida-boy-pistol-seat-truck.html)
". . . A high-profile pro-gun activist was shot in the back by her four-year-old son after he found her pistol lying on the back seat of her truck just 24 hours after (s)he boasted about his shooting skills online. . . just a day after she said the youngster would get 'jacked up' before a shooting practice on a page dedicated to her musings on Second Amendment rights. . . On the (her Facebook) profile Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense she wrote: 'Even my 4 year old gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22'. . . She reportedly believes she has the right to shoot anyone who threatens her family - and plans to teach her offspring the same mentality. . ."

. . . No Thanks!

We Could . . .

(from https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/02/the-nras-plan-to-harden-schools-is-terrifying/)
". . . harden . . . (our) schools.” . . . Before schools start lining up to take advantage of (NRA CEO Wayne) LaPierre’s generosity, it’s worth revisiting exactly what the NRA means when it calls for measures to “harden” a school.
. . . A big fence. . . that “clearly demonstrates territorial ownership,” as the “first physical and psychological barrier that a violent individual must overcome.” . . . like. . .(a) prison yard-style fence
. . . No trees . . . trees and bushes on school grounds should instead be viewed as major security threats. . . too many opportunities for a shooter to stash weapons and hide from surveillance cameras. . . (instead) the NRA recommends very kid-friendly “thorn-bearing and sharp-leaved plant species to create natural physical barriers to deter aggressors.” The report does urge school leaders to keep in mind that such prickly barriers might also prevent people from escaping a mad shooter. . .
. . . No parking lots . . . vehicles can provide potential attackers with a means of concealing and transporting weapons, can be used as a tool in overpowering physical security infrastructure, and can even serve as weapons in and of themselves,”
. . . Entrapment areas. . . the task force recommends that school front offices be protected with two sets of automatically locking doors, preferably constructed with “ballistic protective glass” like the neighborhood liquor store. Such a set up will allow the front office staff to safely trap a potential shooter like a bug in a window screen until help arrives. The report recommends reinforcing the front desk and side wall with “ballistic steel plating” that employees could hide behind should the shooter get past the entrapment area.
. . . No windows. . . 1970s-era post-riots urban architecture. Windows, if allowed at all, should be designed solely with surveillance in mind. . .

Not mentioning making teachers train with and carry guns and essentially serve as armed forces.

OR

We could exercise some form of GUN CONTROL!
