Never . . .

. . . in a million . . .

. . . Whenever I record a version of a new composition, I like to take the 'skeleton', or some (or most) of the rhythm tracks, duplicate the solo section, then go crazy, either on piano or with several different instruments.  By 'crazy', I mean improvising on the chords of the solo section ad nauseam; after all, this is what I do at the piano for hours at a time when I am home;  and NO, I don't just mean now, because of 'quarantine', I mean ALL the time. . . this is the piano 'crazy' solo version.  I expect to add some instrumental variety next. . .

Develop . . .

Is 'super' a level to which we should aspire?
Guess that just depends on perspective.
If my quest involves tramping down my fellow man
Both a judge and a jury I'm detected.

Space . . .

You were always a crackshot. You were always the ace.
Someone called you a crackpot. Said it right to your face.
It was not the effrontery that made you react;
The assault and the violation of rights.

In this wonderful country you and I live today.
Where we value the freedom which allows us to say,
Though the founders had principles, this can’t be denied.
Nothing’s frozen in time but history.
Who can really see that which the future brings?
Take that next shuttle. Go off to your condo on Mars.

Don’t take your guns to space.
They’ve done sufficient damage to this place.
Don’t take your guns to space.

It’s a volatile topic I’m addressing today.
But I fear to ignore it leaves for us hell to pay.
All the hunters and gatherers kick up such a stink.
Where this path’s gonna lead they dare not think.

We continue to venture into places unknown.
All this knowledge and progress takes us so far from home.
Many say that you must accept the good with the bad.
Seems to me that experience would show
Some things from the past don’t deserve to last.
Take that next step and leave all useless baggage behind.

Our sophistication in the arts and  the sciences can’t be denied.
Still we choose our tribal ways when there’s fear and uncertainty
That we must face. They’re true and tried.

But you still fail to grasp it like some new cosmic star.
Using force  laced with habit, you’re resisting so hard.
You say you got the word from some king high on a throne.
But mysteriously each word he speaks in that kingly tone,
Mighty but all alone, uncannily somehow sounds just like all of your  own.

Superman . . .

Should every man yield to the yearning unashamed
Without hypocrisy and wastefulness;
Squander the strength he’s been endowed with;
Feign superiority as tunnel vision’s all he sees?

I’m trying to develop a superman;
Dionysus evolving into perfect humanity.

Gadding about helping each other get along
Won’t make us build the kind of man I see.
Inferiors are weak copies of betters
Printed on bad paper from old and worn-out plates now gone.

Selection, survivors mastering;
Bettering the species, irrespective of
Everything you’ve ever learned
About what’s right or wrong.

You hear the word, you’re quoting scripture that you learned
Originating from a deity.
But should that motivate your actions?
Such self-serving rewarding scheme.
Yours or mine, that’s what both seem.

Can't . . .

It won’t happen.
Turmoil’s not round the bend for us.
All controls are in place;
Neat in their space

See the keeper’s
Keeping vigilant watch
Through a window obscured.
This I assure.

It just can’t
Happen here.

No one saw it
Sneaking up round the corner. Was
Like a thief in the night
Without a fight.

Quite the artist.
Candy-coating what he’s saying
For his own selfish means.
That’s how he leans.

Advocate progressive-sounding ideas.
Tell the people what they want to hear.

There’s no hiding
Dissatisfaction you feel.
Keeps on burning inside.
Still you abide.

Can't

Let Us . . .

. . . review (facts regarding the U.S. response to the COVID-19 pandemic)

(from https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2020/3/14/21177509/coronavirus-trump-covid-19-pandemic-response)
". . . April 2018 — Trump's administration, with John Bolton newly at the helm of the White House National Security Council, began dismantling the team in charge of pandemic response, firing its leadership and disbanding the team in spring 2018. . .

The first sign of a massive failure came with testing. South Korea, which has been widely praised for its response to coronavirus, tested more than 66,000 people within a week of the first community transmission within its borders. By comparison, the US took roughly three weeks to complete that many tests — in a country that is much more populous and, now, is on track to have a much worse outbreak than South Korea and other nations. . .

instead trying to downplay the threat of Covid-19. Trump himself has tweeted comparisons of Covid-19 to the common flu — which Jha describes as “really unhelpful,” because the novel coronavirus appears to be much worse. Trump also called concerns about the virus a “hoax.” He said on national television that, based on nothing more than a self-admitted “hunch,” the death rate of the disease is much lower than public health officials projected. . .

And Trump has rejected any accountability for the botched testing process: “I don’t take responsibility at all,” he said (in March) . . .

The Trump administration . . .  put Vice President Mike Pence in charge of handling the coronavirus pandemic, building out a team that includes well-respected experts like Deborah Birx. But this is in reaction to the epidemic, instead of something that a preexisting agency within the administration was working on for years. . . “It would be nice if the office was still there,” Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, said during a congressional hearing. “We worked very well with that office.”. . .

other countries’ actions, such as China’s draconian measures, gave the US a bit of time to do something, but the federal government has failed to get even the basics right in that time. . .

Trump has consistently downplayed the coronavirus, comparing it to the common flu and claiming that his administration is doing a “GREAT job” and keeping things under control. Even when announcing his administration’s goal to get 5 million test kits out, Trump said, “I doubt we’ll need anywhere near that.”. . .

Trump “did not push to do aggressive additional testing in recent weeks, and that’s partly because more testing might have led to more cases being discovered of coronavirus outbreak, and the president had made clear — the lower the numbers on coronavirus, the better for the president, the better for his potential re-election this fall.”. . .
