But the president's tweet (just before the vote) called that effort into question when he said a CHIP extension should not be part of a short-term bill.

CHIP should be part of a long term solution, not a 30 Day, or short term, extension!

When asked about the president's tweet Thursday morning, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said, "I don’t know whether it’s clear to the president that what we’re trying to do is reauthorize CHIP long term, not just 30 days. I would understand his concern about doing it just 30 days, but we’re trying to do a long term extension for CHIP." . . . The White House later clarified the president's tweet, saying that he does support the House bill. . .
