“The Second Amendment was a response to concerns raised during the ratification of the Constitution that the power of Congress to disarm the state militias and create a national standing army posed an intolerable threat to the sovereignty of the several states,” then-Justice John Paul Stevens correctly noted in his minority opinion, joined by Justices David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Stephen Breyer. “Neither the text of the Amendment nor the arguments advanced by its proponents evidenced the slightest interest in limiting any legislature’s authority to regulate private civilian uses of firearms.”

Once upon a time a 'well-loved' Princess, seeking to the the Princess-in-charge of all the Land, fell afoul of 'those-who-would-quash-her-dream' and as a result, almost lost her chance to attain her diligently-sought title. It seems that in her past capacity as Princess of State, she exhibited some disregard for the principles one would expect from a respectable Princess of State. One such situation, of which many said there were numerous, involved a Squire who generously contributed to a foundation of which the Prince (her husband, you see) was in charge. As a reward for his kindly supporting her husband's cause, it appeared that he was to be rewarded with a position on the Inter-Land Security Advisory Board (ISAB) even though had not one white of knowledge or experience in the things that were done by the ISAB-namely . In fact, his only experience involved providing advice to the rulers of the Land on the use of tactical nuclear weapons and on other crucial arms control issues. When ABC News of the Land inquired of the Princess' staff the reason for the Squire's name being placed on such a list at all, the Princess' staff stalled the reporters and offered no explanation. Then, 'Mysteriously' on the very next day, the Squire, without explanation one, resigned his new post. ABC News of the Land later addressed the Squire directly about the incident. He became upset and had security threaten the ABC News of the Land reporter with arrest, much the same as the Prince and Princess themselves would most likely have done under similar circumstances. Needless to say, they all lived happily ever after.

. . . of MANY sources for you to read . . . (Donald et al)
". . . U.S. News and World Report noted in February of this year: Of the more than 300 American deaths from political violence and mass shootings since 9/11, only 33 have come at the hands of Muslim-Americans, according to the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security. The Muslim-American suspects or perpetrators in these or other attempted attacks fit no demographic profile—only 51 of more than 200 are of Arabic ethnicity. In 2012, all but one of the nine Muslim-American terrorism plots uncovered were halted in early stages. That one, an attempted bombing of a Social Security office in Arizona, caused no casualties. . ."

. . . the attractive surface, lies some not-so-obvious truth. . .
". . . Listening to our political leaders, you’d think everyone on the planet works in a factory. . . (candidates) want(s) to stop China and Mexico from “taking our jobs” by preventing factories from moving there—and (are) willing to launch a trade war to do so. Michael Short, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, recently claimed that a loss of 264,000 manufacturing jobs under President Obama was “a stark reminder of the failure of his policies,” as if the nearly 10 million other jobs added on Obama’s watch didn’t matter. . . This obsession with factories threatens to undermine sound economic policy. The notion that economic strength should be measured by how many assembly lines one country hosts compared to another is based on outdated thinking. And frantic attempts to save factories are a distraction from the real challenge of preparing economies and workers for the demands of the 21st century. . . in the modern age, it’s debatable how much value a physical factory delivers to most national economies. . . It’s also doubtful whether factories will remain an important source of new jobs in the future. Automation, advances in robotics and artificial intelligence are making it possible for machines to perform more and more of the manufacturing work currently done by people, resulting in “dark factories” that don’t need lights since only robots work there. The Boston Consulting Group figures that by 2025, some 25 percent of all tasks in manufacturing will be automated, compared to around 10 percent today. . ."

(from the desk of Rod Deacey)
". . . This Monday, we are delighted to welcome back an inspired performer described by Larry Groce of NPR’s Mountain Stage as “West Virginia’s premier songwriter.” The inimitable TODD BURGE can write and sing you a witty ditty about ANYTHING, and frequently does write about anything, or at least those things that no-one else would think to sing about. Todd’s buddy, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter TIM O’BRIEN says. “… he’s invented his own art form… his songs just keep getting better and better…” As if his stellar songwriting isn’t enough, he also plays a mean guitar, and his vocal gymnastics will blow you away! I think you can tell I like this guy – and you will, too! Come and experience West Virginia’s finest!
Monday’s Piano Prelude will be played for us by another musician from across the river, classical organist JIM MOON, who takes a break from his band, MOON MUSIC, to bring us some Scott Joplin ragtime tunes, sprinkled with classic Dylan, James Taylor and more! We are not sure if Christian will be taking care of our food and drinks or whether it will be surprise substitute Kat, back to help us again!
Three-song cameos will be supplied by award-winning songwriter ANNETTE WASILIK and another of our regular piano meisters, ROCKIN’ RAY JOZWIAK! Ray will also help me out later in the show, playing his best Americana piano… After the feature, poet JOHN HOLLY will read a couple of his poems, I’ll sing a couple of songs and read a poem, and TOMY WRIGHT (with us this week – Yea!) will close the evening…"
