Unsavory. . .

. . . characters. . .

Be on your guard
Watch over your shoulder
Mind every step that you're planning to take
But remember
You called them
Unsavory characters

Yes you're entitled
Speak as you wish
Just give some thought if your statement is true
And remember
You called them
Unsavory characters

Might you consider
Someone else different
Just to appreciate not criticize
There's no need for
your saying
Unsavory characters

What have they done
What have they taken from you
What have you won
Tarnishing innocent reputations
Does it make you feel good
Right
High
Holier

Sit in your perch
High up in your tower
All by yourself is there comfort in that
But remember
You called them
Unsavory characters

You can see much
And you can see many
Living their lives in a harmony foreign someone
Who called them
Unsavory characters

Another . . .

 . . . project. . .

Every hair on your head
Has got to be in place
For the camera
Every place you happen to be
The people stare

You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
But oh
How you wanted to be

Don't equate each little thing
That happened in the past
To the present
Don't expect each person to see
The things you see

You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
But oh
How you wanted to be

Do you ever think of anyone else
Does concern come crossing your mind
There's enough conceit under your own belt
To last a lifetime

If your dream should ever come true
I'll see that spiteful face
On the cover
Of a tabloid where the headline reads
She wants to be

Nothing but the main attraction
Nothing but the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
But oh
How you wanted to be

You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
But oh
How you wanted to be
But oh
How you wanted to be

Here comes . . .

 . . . my baby . . .

That is a great song title, not to mention song.  It was written by Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam, born Steven Demetre Georgiou).  I know the title is basic and quite simple.  But it's concise. And the song embodies everything that a good pop song should possess, most importantly the hook.

I always strive to (of course write, but also) give my compositions with such unmistakably catchy, clever and memorable titles.  Sometimes it works.  But not as much as I'd like it to.

Anyway, you may have forgotten this tune (by the Tremeloes), or maybe never heard it all. . . but. . .

dig it. . .

Sorry Ma. . .

. . . can't help myself . . .

(Yet more modification to the work-in-progress THE BITTER END)

[Lyrics below, if you're so inclined]

You never want to have to hear a word
From me again
Never want to have to see my face
At your door
If there's so much as the mention of
My name
You can feel an uncontrollable
Fit of pain

I'm the one
That you said
You would love
Til the bitter end

This must really be
This must really be the end
Nothing could be fitter
This must really be
This must really be the end
Make no mistake it's bitter

You never want us to be seen again
In public places
Can't explain it to another friend
How it goes
You say there's torment that you feel inside
From many things
I can tell you that I still don't know
What that means

Long ago
We were friends
Far removed
From this bitter end

This must really be
This must really be the end
Nothing could be fitter
This must really be
This must really be the end
Make no mistake it's bitter

There's no candy coating
To make it go down easier
Not so simple to digest
No bright colors and no
Exotic flavors sweetening
What you see is what you get

You never want to have to hear a word
From me again
Never want to have to see my face
At your door
If there's so much as the mention of
My name
You can feel an uncontrollable
Fit of pain

With one fell
Swoop you sent
Me direct to the bitter end

This must really be
This must really be the end
Nothing could be fitter
This must really be
This must really be the end
Make no mistake it's bitter

The days . . .

. . . of wine and roses. . .

The days of wine and roses laugh and run away like a child at play
Through a meadow land toward a closing door
A door marked "nevermore" that wasn't there before

The lonely night discloses just a passing breeze filled with memories
Of the golden smile that introduced me to

The days of wine and roses and you

(The lonely night discloses) just a passing breeze filled with memories
Of the golden smile that introduced me to
The days of wine and roses and you-oo-oo
(Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer)

I love. . .

. . . to speak with Leonard(o). . .

(from wikipedia.com)
". . . Leonard Norman Cohen is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician, poet, and novelist. His work often explores religion, isolation, sexuality, and interpersonal relationships. Cohen has been inducted into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. He is also a Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation's highest civilian honour.

While giving the speech at Cohen's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on 10 March 2008, Lou Reed described Cohen as belonging to the "highest and most influential echelon of songwriters."

The critic Bruce Elder wrote an assessment of Cohen's overall career in popular music, writing, "[Cohen is] one of the most fascinating and enigmatic. . .singer/songwriters of the late '60s. . . [and] has retained an audience across four decades of music-making. . . Second only to Bob Dylan (and perhaps Paul Simon) [in terms of influence], he commands the attention of critics and younger musicians more firmly than any other musical figure from the 1960s who is still working at the outset of the 21st century."

The Academy of American Poets has commented more broadly on Cohen's overall career in the arts, including his work as a poet, novelist, and songwriter, stating that "[Cohen's] successful blending of poetry, fiction, and music is made most clear in Stranger Music: Selected Poems and Songs, published in 1993, which gathered more than two hundred of Cohen's poems . . .several novel excerpts, and almost sixty song lyrics. . .While it may seem to some that Leonard Cohen departed from the literary in pursuit of the musical, his fans continue to embrace him as a Renaissance man who straddles the elusive artistic borderlines." . . . "

From the ridiculous. . .

. . . to the sublime. . .

On August 1st, 2012, Rep. Kelly made a comparison between a woman's right to chose contraception and having it covered by the Affordable Care Act to the attacks of Pearl Harbor and 9/11. Stating that "I know in your mind, you can think of the times America was attacked," he said at a press conference on Capitol Hill. "One is Dec. 7, that's Pearl Harbor Day. The other is Sept. 11, and that's the day the terrorists attacked. I want you to remember Aug. 1, 2012, the attack on our religious freedom. That is a day that will live in infamy, along with those other dates."  (from Wikipedia.com)

Statement by Senator Inouye
in response to Representative Mike Kelly's (R-Pa.) comment linking the birth control mandate to the attack on Pearl Harbor and 9/11 terrorist attacks

Wednesday, August 1, 2012
“I witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor and had the privilege of serving in the United States Army during World War II and I find the comments made by the Congressman from Pennsylvania to be misguided and insulting.  It is complete nonsense to suggest that a matter discussed, debated, and approved by the Congress and the President is akin to a surprise attack that killed nearly 2,500 people and launched our nation into the second World War or a terrorist attack that left nearly 3,000 dead and led to fighting and dying in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Having fought for this nation in Europe, I find that I have a special kinship with those who served in Afghanistan and Iraq and I routinely visit with the most severely wounded veterans of those conflicts. Just yesterday I met with a brave young man who lost all four of his limbs in Afghanistan.  I hope the Congressman from Pennsylvania has the courage to share his comparison with them,” said Senator Daniel K. Inouye.
