Judging . . .

". . . Judge Kavanaugh in 2010 wrote a lengthy concurrence drawing on American historical tradition and the original meaning of the Constitution to defend the invocation of God and the practice of prayer at official government ceremonies, such as the presidential inauguration and Supreme Court sittings. The Supreme Court adopted a similar approach several years later in upholding prayer before a town meeting in New York. . ."

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...". . . (and in a) letter by Thomas Jefferson, addressed to the Danbury Baptist Association in Connecticut, and published in a Massachusetts newspaper. Jefferson wrote, "I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. . . Anybody . . .

. . . know the publisher? . . .

(from https://www.baltimoreravens.com/ravenstown/marching-ravens/ravens-fight-song.html)
". . . "The Baltimore Fight Song" takes the original "Baltimore Colts Fight Song" and adds Ravens-centric lyrics in what should make fans' gameday experience even more exciting.

"It's more or less a changing of the guard," said longtime director of the Marching Ravens, John Ziemann. "The fans spoke out on this one. They wanted to feel that tradition."

Speak out, the fans did. BaltimoreRavens.com held an online poll to see whether the Ravens' Flock community wanted to use the new song when the Ravens scored a touchdown or field goal.

Through nearly 10,000 votes, an overwhelming 79 percent (7,766) of fans said "yes" to "The Baltimore Fight Song."

With the help of his bandmates, Ziemann and the band's musical director, Todd Clontz, came up with the new lyrics set to the nostalgic melody.

Since 1998, Baltimore played the "Ravens Fight Song," an anthem penned by John Modell, then a Ravens Vice President and son of previous team owner Art Modell.

"We had a great song before, and that's a good enough song, to me, to be in the Top 10 of college fight songs," Ziemann said. "But bringing in a new one with roots in Baltimore is going to call to mind a sense of history with a look to the future of Baltimore football. . ."

Bandits. . .

. . . or messiah. . .

(from Zealot;  The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth by Reza Aslan. . . )
". . . It was around this time that a new and far more fearsome group of bandits arose in Galilee, led by a magnetic teacher and revolutionary known as Judas the Galilean.  The traditions say that Judas was the son of the famed bandit chief Hezekiah, the failed messiah whom Herod had captured and beheaded forty years earlier as part of his campaign to clear the countryside of the bandit menace.  After Herod's death, Judas the Galilean joined forces with a mysterious Pharisee named Zaddok to launch a wholly new independence movement that Josephus terms the "Fourth Philosophy," so as to differentiate it from the other three "philosophies": the Pharisees, the Sadducees, and the Essenes.  What set the member of the Fourth Philosophy apart from the rest was their unshakable commitment to freeing Israel from foreign rule and their fervent insistence, even unto death, that they would serve no lord save the One God.  There was a well-defined term for this type of belief, one that all pious Jews, regardless of their political stance, would have recognized and proudly claimed for themselves:  zeal. . . Doe, a deer. . .

 . . . a female deer. . . Ray. . .

(from wikipedia.com)
". . . Ray Anderson is an independent jazz trombone and trumpet player. Anderson is a boisterous trombonist who is masterful at multiphonics. Trained by the Chicago Symphony trombonists, he is regarded as pushing the limits of the instrument. He is a contemporary and colleague of trombonist/composer George Lewis. Anderson also plays Sousaphone and sings.

After spending study time in California, he moved to New York in 1973 and freelanced. In 1977, Anderson joined Anthony Braxton's Quartet (replacing George Lewis) and started working with Barry Altschul's group. From this point forward he started ranking high in polls and becoming influential himself. In addition to leading his own groups since the late '70s (including the funk-oriented Slickaphonics), Anderson has worked with George Gruntz's Concert Jazz Band. In the '90s, he began taking an occasional good-humored vocal, during which he shows the ability to sing two notes at the same time (a minor third apart).

The prolific Anderson also has demonstrated his special supportive skills on a remarkably wide assortment of albums by David Murray, Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, Dr. John, Luther Allison, Bennie Wallace, Gerry Hemingway, Henry Threadgill, John Scofield, Roscoe Mitchell, Randy Sandke's Inside Out Band, Sam Rivers' Rivbea Orchestra, Bobby Previte and others. Anderson is also a member of Jim Pugh's Super Trombone with Dave Bargeron and Dave Taylor. He also received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for a series of solo trombone concerts.

While pushing his sound into the future, Anderson has frequently returned to his early love of New Orleans music for inspiration. His Alligatory Band as well as his Pocket Brass Band, featuring tuba great Bob Stewart, are rooted in its tradition.

Since 2003 he has taught and conducted at Stony Brook University. . . "

A Whirlwind . . .

. . . of life (and thoughts) . . .

. . . mastering for a future release;  practicing music for a new Mystic I performance;  documenting compositions for copyright;  trying to compose new things;  'observing' tradition;   cooking for family;  watching one of Christopher Hitchens' last interviews; wondering what to write about . . .

Life is good!
