Looking through . . .

. . . red white and yellow circles
In a field of azure blue
The perspiration beads all cover my face
Every inch of epidermal baking
Nicely to a golden hue
I would be envious if it had been you

Wading in the ocean salt and foamy
Quick salvation from the heat
a certain balance of the yin and the yan
Then when you return from Neptune's home
All displayed in fine array
Sea of humanity has filled every space

Up in the sky
Something catches your eye
As it goes by
You can hardly tell when where or why

Green the color of the turf surrounding
Blue the sky and surf those two
A gentle breeze is always present for you
You can reach euphoric heights exotic
Won't need any other drug
This kind of high is so much easier too

Bad . . .

 . . . dream . . .

. . . The fortified stone shelter was thought to be strong enough to withstand the trauma that would result from the earth's departing its axis.  It was however, difficult to enter and not large enough to accommodate everyone.  He sat on one of the bus-stop benches, brought into the First National Bank Building to seat the throngs, between his youngest son and his best friend, staring blankly at the obviously futile efforts toward protecting building's inhabitants including the blocking of all windows and doors with concrete.  Catching a last glimpse of the the cloudy grey sky as the concrete wall was sliding into place, his son asked compassionately if he thought Mom had safely reached the shelter and was there a plan to re-unite when the disaster passed.  He tried, however unconvincingly, to comfort his youngest in the affirmative but harbored greater uncertainty than even he wanted to admit. . .

Compound Facture . . .

. . . OUCH!!
It took so long to find him
In that God-forsaken wilderness
The mountains reaching upward to the sky
And friends who claimed they'd help us only
Stumbled on their own duplicity

The compound
Was fractured
In a daring display of
True bravado
Surprising
When it happened
He had since become incommunicado

He had us scared and running
For so many awful years
His ruthlessness was legend everyplace he'd been
Nobody knew quite how to do that
Which all knew had to be done immediately

The compound
Was fractured
In a daring display of
True bravado
Surprising
When it happened
He had since become incommunicado

Third-Hand Intelligence. . .

Heard somebody say. . .
. . . They overheard you
Just the other day
A simple word
About the way we get along
If only I were sure
Of the semantics
Having doubts 'cause I'm
One hopeless romantic
Could it be
You're slipping away from me
What will I do
If what I'm thinking is true
And you want to be
Really free of me
I won't last very long
Very far from your heart
And this third-hand intelligence
Might be the way that it starts.

Heard somebody say
They thought they saw you
Walking in their way
You were not alone
They said he didn't look like
Thinking to myself
Must be mistaken
Try not to believe
but still badly shaken
Why would you
Deceive me in things you do
So many years
Sharing our laughter and tears
Lasted very long
Maybe I was wrong
Not to ask you
Why you feel
We've drifted apart
And this third-hand intelligence
Might be the way that it starts

Are my sources reliable
Wait and see
Wait and see
Is my psyche too pliable
It could be
It could be

If somebody said
The sky was falling
Soon we'll all be dead
Have to quit our stalling
Try to be prepared
Would you believe it's true
Or would you question
All the things you do
And change your direction
From spinning round
When it hits the ground
That's just not true
Any believers are few
When you've seen it all
It could never fall
Any more than
I think you could
Tear us apart
And this third-hand intelligence
Might be the way that it starts
