Just . . .

. . . my ego . . .

Sometimes I can get my point across
And I do it rather well
You can see
What I think
About me

It's just my ego
It gets the best of me
It's just my ego

It's just my ego
It just won't let me be
It just won't let me be alone

It's not one of my most redeeming qualities
Still though it serves me rather well sometimes
It won't be easy to just let it go
It's just my ego

I take such great pride in what I do
Everyone should take some too
Don't you think
Pride in me
Not in you

There's a fine distinction between confidence and pride
There's a fine distinction that I'll never know
Cloaked with some discretion you emerge from the inside
I emerge in all my glory
What is there to hide

Mother said that I would never make
Any friends if I don't see
What I'm like
If I don't lose some pride

Merciless . . .

When you think that you're wronged
And no justice is found
Your pride has been bruised
And your ego's been drowned

You're bursting with anger
Under so much duress
In your retaliation
You will be merciless . . .

Another Take . . .

Read an interesting take on Putin recently in a shipping trade magazine (Andrew J. Lawler, Global Trade) that said 'Putin, right or wrong, sees himself as the best candidate to restore Russia's sense of national pride, world stature and its economy.' Futhermore, acquiring territory has not historically been a neat, clean, up-and-up kind of business of which Putin is well aware. Hawaiians, Native Americans and Mexicans can well attest to the that in terms of the United States' conduct. Mr. Lawler also says that Putin is smart to align himself with the Russian Orthodox Church as opposed to the atheists that preceded him in leadership positions there. The church connection helps him to win hearts, and subsequently minds. He is a folk hero to his people. . .

a point of view certainly not "Officially Sanctioned" nor one you will hear much about in the mainstream media.

My Ego. . .

. . . I take such great pride in what I do. I think you should take some too. I believe. Pride in me. Not in you. It's just my ego. It gets the best of me. It's just my ego. It's just my ego. It just won't let me be. It just won't let me be alone. It's not one of my more redeeming qualities. Still though, it serves me rather well sometimes. It won't be easy to just let it go though, it's just my ego.

Sometimes I can get my point across and I do it rather well. Don't you think? It's a gift. You can tell. It's just my ego. It's just my ego. It just won't let me be. It just won't let me be alone. It's not one of my more redeeming qualities. Still though, it serves me rather well sometimes. It won't be easy to just let it go though, it's just my ego.

There's a fine distinction between confidence and pride. There's a fine distinction that I'll never know. Cloaked with some discretion you emerge from the inside. I emerge in all my glory. What is there to hide?

Mother said that I would never make any friends if I don't see what I'm like; if I don't lost some pride. It's just my ego. It's just my ego. It just won't let me be. It just won't let me be alone. It's not one of my more redeeming qualities. Still though, it serves me rather well sometimes. It won't be easy to just let it go though, it's just my ego.

You Couldn't Play The Music. . .

. . . so you made up your own. . .

That's what the father of another accordion student said to me at the conclusion of accordion practice on the night I chose as my solo, a song that I made up. . . I mean. . . an original composition. In fact, it was my very first original composition, to the best of my knowledge.

The piece was entitled THE NEW YORK STRANGERS. It was essentially, half blues and half folk song. Literally. It was not verse- chorus-verse-chorus, or verse-chorus-bridge-verse-chorus. It was first-part-second-part (repeat). It had lyrics. Very simple lyrics which I, unfortunately (and embarrassingly) do remember so will not repeat here. It was inspired by. . . nothing in particular but the need to write an original composition. Well, isn't that ENOUGH?

And the comment from the other student's parent seems quite ruthless in print. It was, in fact, delivered quite humorously (and kiddingly) by a man who had quite a fine sense of humor with no offense intended and none, indeed, taken.

In retrospect, quite possibly (make that DEFINITELY) the best part of the entire experience, and the finest nuance of the memory, is the look of pride on my very own father's face as I received congratulations from several listeners that evening.
