We spin on an axis as bold as love round a sun that’s alight with fire

It’s true our time is marked by the man in the moon

Don’t walk ahead, don’t walk behind, just be my friend and walk by my side

It’s real, this life is by in the blink of an eye.



I live and I long to be Latin as beauty rebels against time

The cardinal wish for the scent of the red summer rose.



We have walked the dream palace of yesterday

Where myth is truth and the proof’s hearsay

Memories disguised by the ways that we wish they could be

The drives and input are well defined

Lies rolling off dying tongues chill the soul

To the cadence and the tune of the spheres.

Goddesses. . .

Round every corner and fade into blue
The Angelus rings, she comes into view
Nine is her number
In nine she is due
She will never fail you

Singing creation, look into her eyes
Out of her mouth she is speaking the sky
Circling heaven, higher than high
She in time is movement

Why should I move from her world vibration?
Molding this clay into

Gathers her children who sit on her knee
Showing and telling them where they are free
She is softly speaking

Holding the line when she seems unpleasant

Her sun and moon are lanterns
Painting the firmament with stars

She is the vision of attention engaged

A circuit of heaven, a luminous wave
All is seen before her

Why should I move from her world vibration?

During the period that the song was recorded, in 1967, Kit Lambert, the band's first "real" manager, according to Townshend, mixed the song. He filmed the band recording the song, showing the four bandmates performing, with Keith Moon being recruited for the high notes in the song (even though Pete Townshend can be heard telling Keith he "keeps jumping on John's part", however, other live video footage shows John Entwistle, the band's bassist harmonizing and playing the French Horn. Daltrey has said the French horn solo was an attempt to emulate a World War I klaxon warning siren, as the Lily girl was a World War I-era pinup.

I can't remember the rest of the lyrics and was too lazy to consult the archives, but the music is here for you to hear.  I purposely began this song with a corny cliche when I started writing and marketing pop songs and was told by all the 'songwriting experts' to avoid corny cliches.
