Inheritance . . .

(from http://www.arabnews.com/node/1228151/business-economy)
". . . Trump relentlessly congratulates himself for the healthy state of the US economy, with its steady growth, low unemployment, busier factories and confident consumers. . . But in the year since Trump’s inauguration, most analysts tend to agree on this: The economy remains essentially the same sturdy one he inherited from Barack Obama. . .Growth has picked up, but it’s not yet clear if it can sustain a faster expansion. Hiring and wage growth actually slowed slightly from Obama’s last year in office. Consumers and businesses are much more optimistic, but their spending has yet to move meaningfully higher. . .“I don’t see any noticeable break over the past year,” said Michael Strain, an economist at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. “We tend to overstate the degree to which the president has the ability to control the economy.”. . . Auld Lang Syne . . .

. . . no matter how hard we wish next year to be good, prosperous, happy, healthy or joyous, a year is a year.  Like life, most of it will depend upon our choices.  And as we well know we must go on when we lose people in our lives. But some part of them must and will live on.

This poem is for Paul Penwell, a longtime Frederick are open mike participant; regular performer and workshop presenter, blues guitarist and songwriter Marjorie Thompson; and Ricardo, the Divining Sage(Richard White), guitarist extraordinaire and an old soul who helped many . . .

ABSENT FRIENDS

It was not cold but overcast,
A neutral afternoon for Christmas,
Not pointing anywhere,
Not suggesting anything,
Limned by a room splashed full of
Scarlet and white poinsettias;
Neutral plants from Mexico,
When I heard a guitar line
Falter and fade, ascending;
We have our exits and
Our entrances…

Another year –
Auld Lang Syne –
For the sake of times gone by
We take a cup of kindness
Or a glass of wine or whiskey
And salute old friends;
Our cast of characters
Changes, despite our
Holding on tightly...

So, to absent friends, who
Enriched us here, thank you!
But you moved on too abruptly,
Though maybe leaving us with
Sage counsel, or echoes –
Whispers; notes rippling and
Ringing through our memories...

Not Officially. . .

Although not officially diagnosed by a professional, I think that I suffer from Seasonal affective disorder (SAD).  SAD is also known as winter depression, winter blues, summer depression, summer blues, or seasonal depression, was considered a mood disorder in which people who have normal mental health throughout most of the year experience depressive symptoms in the winter or summer. I feel it in winter.  But I do think that I am getting better.

I always claim to have a vitamin D deficiency and need sunshine to stay happy and healthy.  I am noticing recently though that I can also appreciate a cloudy day every now and again.  A cloudy day seems to make me reflective on just about everything I can think of and sometimes a little more inspired. I do not like too many consecutive cloudy days though. . . vitamin D deficiency you know.
