Bigger . . .

Own work Author CharlesAPhillips63

. . . than mere partisan politics . . .

". . . it was the threat, not the fact, of impeachment that drove Nixon from office, and that the two other impeachments in U.S. history — of Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton — couldn’t gain the three-quarters Senate vote required to remove a president from office. . . All Americans ought to be deeply fearful about what this portends for the future. If those responsible for illegal and corrupt acts don’t pay the price for their flagrant disregard of our laws and the U.S. Constitution — and if new laws and institutions are not created to prevent their happening again — the nation’s future is not bright. . ."

Distorted . . .

https://jasonsimonphotography.weebly.com/distortion.html
In the world
Which was much larger then
At least so it seemed
To me and my friends
We loved many things
Understood a small few
But we always relied
On the big people

Then time
Toil and trouble
Took their toll on our dreams
And little by little
We grew
As we learned more and more
Our perspectives had changed
And we wondered

The big people were good
They surrounded us daily
We believed that all big ones
Were worldly and wise
As our own wisdom flourished
We would slowly conclude
That good things don't come
Always with size

Conspiracy . . .

. . . maybe not . . . but who knows?

(from facebook.com)
". . . Trump's BIGLY RUSSIAN DEAL: Flynn is not the whole story - Follow the oil money to TREASON: This is what Trump and Putin are up to: Exxon Mobil, under Rex Tillerson, brokered a deal with Russia in 2013 for 60 million acres of Russian land to pump oil out of, but all that Russian oil went through pipelines in the Ukraine, who heavily taxed the proceeds, and were applying for admission into NATO at the time. Putin subsequently invaded Ukraine in 2014, secured the routes to export the oil tax-free by sea, and took control of the port where their Black Sea Naval Fleet is based, by taking the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine by force and not giving it back. This was Hitler-tier imperialism that broke every international law in the free world. After Obama sanctioned Russia for the invasion, they could only pump oil from approximately 3 of those 60 million acres. But now Rex Tillerson is our Secretary of State, and as of today, there’s information circulating that Donald Trump will likely unilaterally remove all sanctions against Russia in the coming days or weeks. Putin will make half a trillion (500 Billion) dollars from that much untapped oil. All pumped tax-free through Crimea, stolen from Ukraine, now owned by Russia. Putin may have subverted our government just to become the richest man in the world. **According to leaked docs Trump will get 19% cut (Rosneft stock placed in Cayman accounts in Dec/16). . . "

Big? . . .

". . . Paul Krugman claimed that “too big to fail was at best marginal" to the crash of 2008. Earlier this month, the economist Austan Goolsbee said on Twitter that "BIG wasn't what made Bear or Lehman dangerous. it was the ability to spill damage onto others." Former Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) even said Lehman was "very small" when it failed. . . This has accompanied a broader barrage of Clinton rhetoric suggesting that Bernie Sanders' plan to break up big banks is a weak proposal that ignores her tough-as-nails shadow banking plan. Basically, the argument goes, "too big to fail" was never a serious problem, or at least the “big” part of it wasn’t really a problem, and anyhow, Lehman Brothers wasn’t very big. . . "

(from NBC News)
". . . An asteroid half the size of a football field will give Earth the ultimate close shave this month, passing closer than many satellites when it whizzes by. But it won't hit the planet, NASA scientists say.  The asteroid 2012 DA14 will fly by Earth on Feb. 15 and zip within 17,200 miles (27, 680 kilometers) of the planet during the cosmic close encounter. The asteroid will approach much closer to Earth than the moon, and well inside the paths of navigation and communications satellites. "This is a record-setting close approach," Don Yeomans, the head of NASA's asteroid-tracking program, said in a statement. "Since regular sky surveys began in the 1990s, we've never seen an object this big get so close to Earth."

Asteroid 2012 DA14 was discovered last year by an amateur team of stargazers at the La Sagra Sky Survey observatory in Spain. Yeomans stressed that, while the asteroid's approach brings it closer than the geosynchronous satellites orbiting 22,245 miles (35,800 km) above Earth, 2012 DA14 poses no threat of a deadly collision with the planet. . . "

One size fits ya'll. . .

. . . goes the joke about jeans in Texas, but buying new furniture for an old house is no joke. Or should I ask, can you buy furniture today and NOT have to worry about it being delivered through a door of an OLD house?

Now there was a time when I would have thought a 55 year-old house wasn't really that old. But it seems that today, furniture is just BIG!!!

So our evening was spent measuring doorways and our existing furniture (couches, to be specific) to try to determine whether there would be any problem having a new couch delivered through our basement door.

The good folks where we purchased this gem were kind enough to provide illustrations of a similar couch, showing how and where to measure and stressing the dimension of the most relevance.

Needless to say, the couch in the illustration was actually seven inches larger at a crucial dimension than the one we purchased. Does that make a difference??? I would think so.

Now this is very difficult to explain, but I'll try to be brief and simple. You place a straight line from the top of the backrest to the outer edge of the armrest, then run your tape measure diagonally from the middle of that straight edge to the far bottom corner (I think it's the foot, in our case) of the piece.

If the couch in the illustration is 37" deep, that opposite diagonal dimension is 30". So my question is, and I was never good with math, geometry, chemistry, calculus, algebra or any of those, if my couch is only 30" deep, won't the opposite diagonal dimension be smaller that 30", and therefore fit easily through my doorway which is probably about 28" wide at most??

I don't know!!!!!

Always You. . .

You've always been ahead of me
One fact that I
In my infinite wisdom
Could not always see
But in the end you always convinced me
Things aren't always
What they appear
The things I've always looked for

Once long ago before we met
I thought I could
Singlehandedly make the
Spinning world go away
Just like some king
from back in those bygone days
But I was wrong
I don't belong
Inside this category

Seemed to be
At the time to me
To my advantage
Missing why
Not knowing
When to try
To start believing
In my
Very own
Self
Determination

Sometimes at night
When I'm alone
The solitude
And the quiet can bring out
All the worst in my head
But now it seems that isn't to big or bad
I've learned a thing

Or maybe two
And just ahead
There's
Always
You
