Surprise!!. . .

". . . When Kiesha Davis (a homeless volunteer and city resident) first read what Ivanka Trump wrote about her on Twitter, what struck her most was this: The president’s daughter spelled her name right.“I was just beaming,” Davis recalls of that moment. . . left her feeling as if Trump had really seen her when they met briefly on July 20 at the DC Dream Center. The first daughter and White House adviser was there that day to distribute food from the Agriculture Department’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program. . . . now, more than a month later, she’s not sure what to make of it. . . Then one week passed, followed by another. Davis says she had asked a woman who was with Trump for her contact information, but when she tried calling the number that was written down, it wasn’t working. . . After this column initially published online, White House communications director Alyssa Farah sent this statement about Ivanka Trump’s encounter with Davis: “Ivanka greatly enjoyed the conversation she had with Kiesha on her recent trip spotlighting the Trump Administration’s Farmer’s to Families Food Box Program, so much so that she shared her office’s contact information to keep in touch. Her office has not received any outreach yet but looks forward to reconnecting. We would be honored to host Kiesha for a meeting at the White House and look forward to scheduling a connection soon. We would have been happy to share this with the Washington Post before the [sic] wrote an entire story, had they reached out to the White House for comment prior to publishing.”. . .  It (the White House) puts the responsibility on Davis to call, which she says she tried to do, using a number that was written by hand. She only later realized no one asked for her contact information. I have since agreed, with her consent, to pass on her number to White House staff members. . . she (Davis) considered what she might tell her (Trump). She decided she wanted Trump to know this: “We’re still out in the street. We’re still homeless.” . . . Davis also offered advice to her or anyone with political power who will want to connect with people experiencing hardships in the months leading up to the election. . . . “Hear people,” she said. “See. Hear. And do something to help people, not only in this city but throughout the country. And not just for their votes. Not just to say, ‘We talked to a person,’ and that’s it. Actually do something. Do something to make positive change.”. . . "

There Ain't . . .

. . . no good guys;  there ain't no bad guys . . .

(from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Michael_Reinoehl)". . . Michael Forest Reinoehl was shot dead by U.S. Marshals and FBI agents on the evening of September 3, 2020, near Lacey, Washington. Reinoehl, a protester in Portland, Oregon who described himself as an anti-fascist, was a suspect in the killing of right-wing protester Aaron Danielson in Portland five days earlier. According to witnesses police officers approached Reinoehl in unmarked SUVs, at which point Reinoehl drew a weapon, and possibly fired at them. Officers then fired at Reinoehl, killing him. No officers were injured in the incident. . . Reinoehl, 48, lived in Clackamas, a suburb of Portland. He had described himself as a US Army veteran, a professional snowboarder, and an antifascist. Reinoehl's social media accounts showed that he was heavily involved in three months of protest against police violence and racism in Portland. According to Reinoehl, he helped provide security at the protests

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/suspect-fatal-portland-shooting-killed-law-enforcement-during-arrest-attempt-n1239283)". . . April Reinoehl, who describes her relationship with brother Michael as "estranged," told NBC News by text message Friday that he had a combatant's world view. . . "He believed that the country is going to war," she said. "He believed the war was here, and look at where that got him; where it got us. Two men are dead. He is one of them. Two families have been thrown into the chaos, and everyone seems more up in arms than ever." . . . She urged peace. . . "We can still choose peace, and we can change the course of things through open communication," the sister said. "Somewhere along the way, I guess Michael lost sight of that.". . . "

Number . . .

Once or twice, in thirty lifetimes,
Four or five perchance appear.
Seventy times the seventh son
Elucidates upon his sphere.
Wonder, was it at his birth,
From where such gems erupt?
It may be from all he has learned,
Or maybe he just made it up.

Blameless? . . .

Foreclosing on widows homes
Is one thing I’ve not done.
But if truth be told
That’s only one.
The life that I led before
Left nothing to be desired.
High on the hog until
I was undone.

Otherwise blameless.
Upstanding citizen true.

So exemplary am I.
How upright I stand.
One lie here.
There one little fraud.
I’m just a man.

Lying; tampering; a plea deal.
Polling; disinformation; spike heel.

Recommended sentencing
Was max one score plus five.
Thanks, though, to judge Friend-of-Mine,
I’ll be revived.

Where . . .

 . . .  did it go?

On very special occasions,
When celebrating felt right,
This place we’d go to,
With ambience and wine,
On a Saturday night.
Caricatures hung on the wall
Eavesdropping on our most intimate moments.
“I love you.”

It was essential to go there
To mark the passage of time
Between the dates we used to signify
The bond we shared and to dine.
Always served Angus A-1 prime
To patrons of each and every persuasion.
I loved you.

But now that place is all gone.
Where did our love go?
Where is the ambience and
McCafferty’s piano?

While you eat you’re serenaded
By some local musician
Playing bad renditions of the popular songs.
You sing along.

And so it ended.
Our passion somehow
Just faded away.
And likewise too,
That place we held diving
Became a dance club today.
The memories come charging in.
Sweet dreams and all the romancing related
Are gone now.
