". . . Ciders can be classified from dry to sweet. Their appearance ranges from cloudy with sediment to completely clear, and their colour ranges from almost clear to amber to brown. The variations in clarity and colour are mostly due to filtering between pressing and fermentation. Some apple varieties will produce a clear cider without any need for filtration. Both sparkling and still ciders are made; the sparkling variety is the more common. . . Modern, mass-produced ciders closely resemble sparkling wine in appearance. More traditional brands tend to be darker and cloudier. They are often stronger than the mass-produced varieties and taste more strongly of apples. Almost colourless, white cider has the same apple juice content as conventional cider but is harder to create because the cider maker has to blend various apples to create a clearer liquid. White ciders tend to be sweeter and more refreshing. They are typically 7-8 % ABV in strength. Black cider, by contrast, is dry amber premium cider which has an alcohol content of 7-8 % ABV. The descriptor black usually comes after the brand name such as Union Black and Barnstormer Black. . ."

WTF? . . .

. . . and why did this man demand it so forcefully in song every year?

Figgy pudding — aka plum pudding, plum porridge, Christmas pudding and steamed pudding — is a quintessentially British sweet with a history that might go back to Shakespeare's time. We know it was around in the mid-1600s, because that's when the English Puritans banned it — and Christmas, too. There probably aren't too many sweets that have been banned, but then there aren't too many sweets that are as alcoholic as this one.

The pudding, a steamed cakelike treat that's chockablock with dried fruits — such as (but not limited to) figs, raisins, cherries and cranberries — is a sturdy sweet that gets its good keeping qualities (you can make it now and stow it away until Christmas), its lovely moistness and its bona fides for being banned from alcohol: brandy or cognac and rum in the mix, and the same over it, if you want to present it aflame.

Sweet . . .

. . . dreams?

For some reason, this office seemed very unbusiness-like with its four-person table set-up that appeared to be designed more for eating than for working.  And the people in this office seemed to be there for eating and social intercourse, and maybe they were, because amid some barely discernible chatter I detected such activities. But then an awareness enveloped me that this was a commercial enterprise of some sort from which I apparently earned my living, and from my quarter of one of the many tables, I decided that I required a respite from the demands of the task I was performing at the time, and that I would take a little break. In what was, to me at the time, apparently normal protocol, I, on my wheeled, office chair, began simply 'zooming' around the room visiting, or greeting (if you will) people at the other tables quite indiscriminately and to their obvious surprise. From the reactions on multiple faces, it was as if I possessed a certain admirable audacity or charismatic self-confidence in my decision to undertake this unorthodox action.

And then, as is quite common in dreams, on the return trip to my workstation, I was suddenly and inexplicably traveling, on my wheeled office chair, down a major and relatively busy city thoroughfare.  As the cars and trucks bullied their way to and from their destinations and origins, I was hurling into this vehicular miasma in the wrong direction.  To my right, on the sidewalk of Fairmount Avenue, I saw three adolescent boys riding bicycles in the direction opposite to my own and couldn't help noticing that the boy in the middle was, quite happily as evidenced by his care-free, self-absorbed smile, riding a bicycle that appeared, albeit illogically, to be upside-down.
