Snappy . . .

. . . don't you think? . . .

Shouts in the street

I hear them as I'm walking home

Shoes on my feet

Touch down and take off as I roam

Dreams lifted up

So many pies in the sky

U-flying-o's

I duck them as they fly on by

Tomorrow takes care of itself

Today has its trial and its call

Janus he waits at your door

Rising or breaking his fall

You've got your "Time"

And secrets that love has betrayed

The long yellow line down your spine

That your feeling has frayed

Take my hand we may see

Everything we mean to be

When we meet again

Should it be under blanket of night?

All that remains

Is the matter of choice in disguise

Take my hand we may see

Everything we mean to be

Am I with you or you with me?

We have our time then take our leave

Deep in the heart

Where paradox finds its resolve

Long bodies live

They've learned how to bend to absolve

Now desire is the tie

That holds us fast to life

For the sweetness of the honey

Risk the peril of the hive

Now I'm running through your veins

In exchange I know your pain

All the lies have run aground

And to this earth I'm bound

One Small Turtle. . .

. . . made it through another day. . .

I swerved to miss a turtle
As he watched the traffic hurtle
Past him from the center of the street
I saw him stick his snout out
Pulled off and played the Boy Scout
And snatched him from the jaws of defeat…

It was just a single swerve
And surely didn't deserve
A hundred-dollar fine for Careless Driving
But the Highway Patrol
Said “Think of it as toll --
Now please drive on, sir, I’m advising”

Just one swerve, that's all it took to
Get written up in that little black book
Just one swerve, what can I say?
One small turtle
Made it through another day

If you’re a Hindu or a Buddhist
You know there is a karma list
Good actions always earn you more
God, always thinking green,
Will use your soul again
In some new creature, depends on your score…

Just when you think you're
Doing the right thing
Life is a bumblebee
Administering a sharp sting

So with very little drama
I’m storing up good karma
One hundred-dollar turtle at a time!
But that Patrolman’s karma’s bad
It almost seems a little sad
That he’ll come back as a bug next time…

Just one swerve, that's all it took to
Get written up in that little black book
Just one swerve, what can I say?
One small turtle
Made it through another day

More. . .

. . . happiness?. . .

So I said
I've got a roof o'er my head
Some people can't even say the same thing
But it's still not a fact
I can take any comfort in
I want more to make up my legacy
I'm not poor but everybody's telling me

Money can't buy everything
You've heard it time again
No money can't buy happiness
When will you learn this fact of life my friend

So I said
I've got my very own bed
I don't give it much thought
When I lay down my head
But it's cold and it's lonely
In December on the street
Why do you tell me these kinds of things
I still crave the luxuries that wealth can bring

Money can't buy everything
You've heard it time again
No money can't buy happiness
When will you learn this fact of life my friend

I want to be a squire a king a country gentleman
If I can if I can
I want to get respect for what I have
And not for what I am
Just a man just a man

So I said
It's more than daily bread
That I'm talking about can you hear what I said
You see everyone tells me to accept my own fate
Why should I take what is handed me
Can't even try my way
It wasn't meant to be

Money can't buy everything
You've heard it time again
No money can't buy happiness
When will you learn this fact of life my friend
