The Washington Post wrote that an NBC-WSJ showed that seven in
10 people agreed with the statement that Republicans are “putting their
own political agenda ahead of what is good for the country”. At the other end, only
27 percent said that the GOP is “demonstrating strong leadership
and standing up for what they believe in.”
House Republicans repeatedly said that their efforts to derail the Affordable Care Act were in response to the wishes of the American people.
WHAT American People???? I shouted at the radio or television every time I heard it.
Why didn't our dear friends in the press, who daily bring us the mealy-mouths and pasty faces of these cartoonish "public servants", ASK THIS QUESTION???

U.S. special operations commander has ordered files about the raid and
assassination of Osama Bin Laden sent to the CIA and purged from Defense
Dept. records appearing to have bypassed federal rules and possibly the
U.S. Freedom of Information Act. A CIA spokesman said it is "absolutely
false" that records were moved to the CIA to avoid the legal
requirements of the Freedom of Information Act. The records transfer was
part of an effort to protect the names of the personnel involved in the
raid, according to the inspector general's draft report. Moving those
records did allow the Pentagon to tell The Associated Press that it
couldn't find any documents inside the Defense Department when the
latter had requested them more than two years ago, and would represent a

. . . no, I am not criticizing the Miss America beauty contestant Marissa Powell, who fumbled her answer to a question about equal pay for women. I mean THE PRESS.
The media quickly called Miss Utah for her comically rambling response to the question, which by the way she has handled superbly to her own benefit. But on a daily basis, we are bombarded by the confounding eloquence of Boehners, Mitchells, Reids, Pauls, Dingells, Rangels, Waxmans, Grahams, Ryans and others, which the press dutifully reports to us verbatum and without question.

So yes, it's difficult to take Carson's pontificating seriously when he treats Fox News, of all places, as a serious meeting place of ideas. Did Carson not think it was odd that people on Fox were constantly saying things like, "I would vote for you in a heartbeat." "This guy's a star." "Hallelujah. Amen. I don't think that anybody could have said it better." Is that what he considers to be normal political give and take, or did he knowingly sign up for hero worship duty?. . . "

"To say that, and I quote Daniel Rodricks, "Ben Carson had firmly developed, antiquated beliefs that he wants a wide audience to hear," is an understatement ("Ben Carson's conservative views are drawn from the Bible" Mar 30). Dr. Carson is an admirable man because of the contributions in pediatrics that he has made throughout his career, but as a human being and as a member of our society, he needs to educate himself and understand that this is 2013 and we, as a society, need to evolve. 3. Zappa helped jumpstart his career, incorporating him into his touring ensemble, though complained Beefheart couldn't cut the arrangements. Several of Zappa's sidemen later defected to the Magic Band.
4. in the mid 70s he wandered in an aesthetic wilderness - his label dropped him, he fell in with some sharp operators connected with the band Bread (!) and tried to record 'safe' pop. His Magic band left him, and he toured with a pick up group. One older cat Ellis Horn had played clarinet with Lu Waters Jazz Band in the 40s and had a feature playing 'Sweet Georgia Brown" on an old albert-style clarinet, upturned at the bell. "He sucked up a cosmic particle into his horn," opined Don.
5. opening acts, in Boston at any rate, included Mississippi Fred McDowell, the NY Dolls, Larry Coryell, Bonnie Raitt/Dave Maxwell, Dr. John & a trained monkey vaudeville act. "Did you like the Dolls? Oh, balls!"
6. Zappa produced the Magic Band's masterpiece, Trout Mask Replica, in 1969, initially as a sort of Folkways-type anthropological field recording at the band's commune. In the studio, he refused to wear phones, syncing his vocals with the band only via the faint leakage through the thick plate glass.
