Pre-Debate. . .

. . . tutorial. . . (one left to go)

(from http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-tell-if-someone-is-lying-voice/)
". . . Step 1: Unusual Ahem's Alert
Although clearing one's throat is not necessarily considered aberrant behavior, it is not a normal everyday feature of the average person's speech. A healthy liar is more likely to do the "ahem" sound than a healthy non-liar. Psychological stress on a typical liar tends to put some tension on their muscular system, which includes their vocal muscles. The vocal muscles are miniscule in size, about the size of a thumbnail.1 The air you breathe passes through the vocal muscles on their way to the lungs and vice-versa. When the vocal muscles contract, they temporarily halt the respiration process; hence, the tensed liar may need to clear their throat in order to continue speaking.

Step 2: Creaky Voice Alert
Another common after-effect of lying and the anxiety associated with it on the vocal system is a creaky tone or a glottal fry.1 It is called so, because the voice then sounds as if it is being fried. The vocal chords try to minimize the impact of the lack of air by conserving it, resulting in a creaky voice. A physically healthy nervous liar is more likely than a relaxed physically healthy honest person to speak with a creaky voice.

Step 3: Judge in Context
While the typical liar's vocal features described in the previous steps can be a warning sign, they are to be analyzed within the proper context. There are many causes of the creaky voice and clearing of throat, and the anxiety that accompanies the act of lying is just one of them. Sickly honest people can just as easily experience these vocal problems as healthy dishonest people. In addition, there are experienced liars and pathological liars that are so used to lying that they have become immune to the anxiety that haunts the average liar. Therefore, the two vocal hot spots described in this page are meant to be used with an open mind. . . "

Dreams . . .

. . . to me, are a very strange, yet probably a very normal, uneventful function of a human organ - the brain.
In fact, I believe that dreams are the waste products of the brain.  Why not?  If you pay attention (if you can remember your dreams at all) there is usually one element (sometimes multiple elements) within your dream that you can directly follow back to something real that happened to you or that you thought of, most likely (but I doubt without exception) the day before you had the dream.

I remember distinctly when one summer evening as a teenager, my best friend at the time and I were sitting near the curb of my family's quiet street having one of our many usual discussions on life.  When one,  lone automobile came down the road, stopped politely at the stop sign before proceeding through the intersection and slowly out of our site, my friend remarked that life was quite arbitrary and one could never be sure that when that car stopped at the stop sign, the barrel of a gun would not become apparent aiming out the car window directly at us and . . . BOOM!!!  And he was and is correct.

That very night, I found myself at the same location on the curb near my house, talking with the same friend on another warm, summer night - in a dream, of course.  And since these discussions frequently involved laughter as well a matters of substantial gravity, we were laughing.  That laughter was interrupted by one, lone automobile slowly approaching our location and the stop sign at the corner of the intersection of Gough and Old North Point.  Upon stopping we noticed the car window was slowly being lowered.  We saw no face but began to perceive an object being leveled through the open window in our direction.  It appeared ring-like at first, but in what seemed to be hours, but was in reality only seconds, it registered upon the young psyche of each of us that this was, indeed a weapon of some sort.  As we groped for words and more importantly to summon the energy to take some action, I only remember staring directly at that gun barrel for a small eternity before eventually hearing a tremendous . . .

BOOM!!!

. . . which awakened me.
Dreams!

Normal or not? . . .

. . . who's to say?

My brother-in-law came to the house last Sunday to watch a football game. He lives on the outskirts of the metropolitan area and is does not, as a result, have the games of our local NFL franchise available on his cable television broadcast schedule. Now this may sound like a very ordinary situation to you. Brother-in-law visits brother-in-law, the guys watch the game together with a few beers, maybe a pizza and pretzels, right?

Well most of it's right. The only wrong part of the picture is the 'guys' part, at least literally. You see, the two football fans that enjoyed the game together were my brother-in-law and my wife. My wife and my two younger sons are the only football fans in the family. Our eldest and myself would rather. . . be doing just about anything else. So as my wife and her brother were screaming at the television, I walked through the room. He said, "Ray, I guess you're not really interested in this game are you?" to which I responded, "You could tell, huh?" (not rudely, mind you.) To my brilliant remark he responded, "I guess you're the only normal one here."
