Baby . . .

. . . steps. . .

Change is a process, not an event.
-Barbara Johnson (American literary critic and translator)

". . . Propelling the flight (out of Saudi Arabia) is the kingdom's wilaya, or guardianship, law. Although it has received less publicity than the world's only sex-specific driving ban, it imposes harsher curbs on female mobility. To travel, work or study abroad, receive hospital treatment or an ID card, or even leave prison once a sentence is served, women need the consent of a male wali, or guardian. From birth to death, they are handed from one wali to the next-father, husband and, if both of those die, the nearest male relative. Sometimes that might be a teenage son or brother, because although boys are treated as adults from puberty, women are treated as minors all their lives. . ."

Balanced . . .

(from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender-specific_and_gender-neutral_pronouns)
A gender-neutral pronoun, by contrast, is a pronoun that is not associated with a particular grammatical or social gender and that does not imply, for instance, male or female. Many English pronouns are gender-neutral, including they (which in certain contexts can also refer to a singular antecedent such as everyone, a person, or the patient).

Many of the world's languages do not have gender-specific pronouns. Others, however – particularly those that have a pervasive system of grammatical gender (or have historically had such a system, as with English) – have gender specificity in certain of their pronouns, particularly third-person personal pronouns.

Problems of usage arise in languages such as English, in contexts where a person of unspecified or unknown sex or social gender is being referred to but commonly available pronouns (he or she) are gender-specific. In such cases a gender-specific, usually masculine, pronoun is sometimes used with intended gender-neutral meaning; such use of he was also common in English until the middle of the twentieth century but is now controversial. Use of singular they is another common alternative. By using "he" or "she" the speaker may make assumptions about gender identity. Some people express their identities more ambiguously and appearances can be deceptive. Some attempts have been made, by proponents of gender-neutral language, to introduce invented gender-neutral pronouns.

The Stronger . . .

. . . sex? . . .

(from http://www.nbcnews.com/business/careers/why-men-least-pretend-work-longer-hours-n369731)
(A survey of) ". . .3,042 Dutch male workers . . . asked about their personal situations, how many hours they worked and how many hours they thought their peers worked on average. Men who thought they worked fewer hours than their counterparts were found to be less happy than those who thought they worked more, regardless of their working time or income. According to the report's authors, this phenomenon, called "conspicuous work," occurs when "the individual derives status from working more than his peers, which increases his utility." The report states: "In many social groups, an individual can indeed increase his status by telling everyone that he is very busy, preferably even more than others around him. Symmetrically, he can lose status if he has less to do than others." Apparently this phenomenon only affects men. Marion Collewet, one of the report's authors, told CNBC by email: "The patterns of conspicuous work which we identify for male workers cannot be found for female workers in our data.". . ."

Ho Hum, back to . . .

 . . . the grind. . .

The holidays now over, and it's time to get back to the 'swing' of things.

Now that the season for stopping innocent children from celebrating Christmas is over and we've celebrated our New Year's Rockin' eve with the egomaniac who should retire, and we anticipate the national spectacle of watching overweight, overpaid male 'athletes' pile on top of one another as they pursue the pointed pumpkin around a huge 'cow pasture' (as Andy Griffith once said) and merchants pay millions to hawk their wares during 30 second breaks that (and this is a sad statement) are actually more entertaining than the program to which they have contributed so outrageously,  it's now time to settle down, sit back, relax with a cold beer (or a hot topic) and watch the Republican presidential candidates do their new and improved version of Looney Tunes.

". . . and Oh what heights we'll hit, on with the show this is IT IT IT IT!!!!!"
