Epilogue . . .

(End of Season Epilogue)
And just when you're used to the peace and the quiet,
All holy and hell will descend like a riot.
The absentee owners are back like a fungus
Just because on the calendar, it says 'Columbus.'
So they drag down their families, regardless of weather,
And if it happens to be bad, they all stay inside together.
The parking's horrendous til they go out to eat.
Then they all come back home to watch movies and tweet.
It's just all part of living this next chapter of life
In a nice large resort, with this minimal strife.
Pretty soon it'll be Monday, and if stars are aligned,
They will all drive back home and restore my peace of mind.

Justice?. . .

Cowboy justice
Is just exactly what we need.
Twice as effective
As mercy, now for which they plead.
If I can't get you
To see things the way I do,
Something happens.
I start the process. see it through.
It's what I've been taught to do.
And I'll teach you.
No one tells me
Just what I can or cannot do.
My advisors,
Some, say are keepers of this zoo.
I don't mind if
You think that what they say is real.
I'm in charge here.
At least that's how they make me feel.
That's a part of the deal,
And it came true.
Gotta see it my way.
I'm giving the people what I want.
It's a price I must pay.
We cowboys know how to be gallant.
There's no question
Of right or wrong here to debate.
Disagree though,
You'll be subjected to the hate
That's inflicted
On members of the team like you.
Cause we cowboys
Will never worry if we're few.
Our justice is true.
Make no mistake.

Harry . . .

". . . Mr. Weinberg -- who was listed in the phone book and answered his own phone -- had no trouble communicating with reporters. If they called, he'd bark a gruff "no comment" and hang up. . . Criticized as a callous landlord who neglected his properties on Howard Street and in other Baltimore neighborhoods, Mr. Weinberg didn't seem destined to end life with a grand act of public service. It wasn't until he was diagnosed as having cancer about eight years ago that he announced that he would give his money away after he'd finished making it. . . He'd grown up in Baltimore, where the city's great philanthropists were revered, his son said. Like Johns Hopkins and George Peabody, he wanted to give something back to the community. . . Mr. Weinberg wasn't particularly religious, but he strongly supported Jewish causes and charities. He also never forgot those who helped him. . . As children, Mr. Weinberg and his siblings were treated free at St. Agnes Hospital. Years later, William Weinberg saw a large check to the hospital on his brother's desk and asked about it. . . "Goddammit," Harry Weinberg told him. "You of all people ought to know what that's for." . . Mr. Weinberg also developed a special concern for the elderly. During trips to Atlantic City, he avoided the casinos, instead spending time talking to old people on the Boardwalk, asking how they were making ends meet. . . On his final 1989 pilgrimage to Israel -- a nation whose birth he witnessed firsthand in 1948 -- he asked to visit several of Tel Aviv's nursing homes. . . It was a humid summer day, and Mr. Weinberg was surprised that the nursing homes were not air-conditioned. So he wrote a check for $1 million to pay for air-conditioning for every nursing home in Israel. . . In Baltimore, he spent $20,000 to ensure that residents of the Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital receive premium ice cream twice every month. . ."

The End . . .

. . . of the tale

That's prolly enough 'bout my life at the beach.
I love every season, moments every and each.
I can highly recommend being here by the sea,
Even though not a member of the bourgeoisie.
I still drive my Toyota to the grocery and back,
With occasional detours tempting me from my track.
I must always be careful though, minding my speed,
There's a cop with a speed gun hiding behind that tree.

School . . .

Always open to learning something new, especially involving music and the making of, marketing of, subtleties of etc. A long time ago I was sending demos (bad demos) of my songs to record companies, producers, artists, publishers and anybody else that I thought might recognize my (raw) talent and place one of my compositions with an artists who would record it, sell gobs and gobs of records, and make me rich and famous. I also read just about anything I could get my hands on regarding the making and marketing of pop music. One gem that I read said that a great pop hit is one that appeals to sixteen-year-old girls. Based upon that advice, I wrote Ace of  Hearts. The instrumental (solo piano) version of the piece is here. The demo, with vocal and band, recorded at a local studio (time which was a prize won at my first meeting with the Songwriters Association of Washington [DC]), will be posted here shortly.

Cosmos . . .

Just Jay, Jay Graboski, OHO (by any name) - the unstoppable force behind the creative, thought-provoking, sophisticated rock music, gathering together sonic elements from A to Z, has created this memorable composition, capitalizing on varied and many contributions, sought and meticulously utilized to maximum effect. It is a pleasure and a privilege to call him friend and musical co-conspiritor.

Eat . . .

The specials sound great and they're such a nice deal.
If I only ate more, great advantage I'd feel.
The Cottage Cafe has fried oysters one night
And the wine is half-price o'er at Finn's, just in sight.
Everyone's got fish tacos, they are really quite good,
And in Ocean View there is number I could
Most certainly partake of, order something I do not
Eat at home on a basis that's regular - or forgot.
That's enough, I must say, about food, cause for sure
I eat plenty, delicious and healthful, be assured.

Fate . . .

. . . Now luna, you're going to get a concussion.
If you've hit that screen once, must've hit it a dozen.
Perhaps to your eyes that light is attractive.
If you really got in, you would feel like a captive.
Should I turn off the lights, or turn the television off?
Should we be mouse-ly quiet, cease to talk, even cough?
So back into the woods, our poor luna friend flew.
Left our door screen alone.  Left our deck and house too.
But in some way I felt we had seen something great.
I was fortunate; lucky to have this be my fate.

Twas More . . .

Leaning forward, now abandoned my yoga position,
I directed my attention with quite some suspicion
The summer night air was unusually cool
In the break from the swelter August gave as a rule.
During one of his thuds on the screen to break in,
We saw the huge luna moth that was making the din.
He had beautiful colors, circles tail and antennae.
Either angel from heaven. Maybe ghoul from Gehenna.
He bashed and he battered towards the light from inside.
Must have knocked himself silly. Would have made me cross-eyed.

Music . . .

You're a star.
Where you wanted to be,
You now are.
From afar
You appear not too different
Than me.
But the scars
You've acquired
Did not come free.

Had I tried;
Had I done all I could
With all my might
Would the ride
Give return on the price
Which was required?
Cast aside
Any thoughts of security.

Resistance . . .

. . . is felt all around

Six AM,
The buses aren't nearly as crowded
As the night before.
Someone said there was
Music and laughter
Behind all the shutters and doors.
What was all of it for?
Who needs friends?
There's barely a minute for breathing.
Everyone here works so hard.
There's no party.
When I reach my doorstep
I struggle to pull out my key.
Where's the meaning for me?
You see but you're unaware
There's life on the other side.
But there's no bridge to cross.
I'm looking through the fog
For some way out of here.
I've baggage here to toss.
Bless my soul!
I've read about you in the paper.
I've seen your picture somewhere.
When you speak it's in volumes and volumes.
I can't hear a word that you say.
Funny it happens that way.
I've been told
That envy's the thing I've been feeling
For your kind of work and your play.
But to tell you the truth
That it's only a wish
For a new kind of day,
When worry and fear melt away.
Could be
That a day will come
When you just might understand.
I’d like to go away.
And go there to stay.
But I can’t find the way.
So it goes,
But change never really comes easy.
Resistance is felt all around.
But inevitably something happens
That makes the old ship run aground.
We all stare in awe of what’s found.
Like me you appear to be
Looking for some meaning here.

Age . . .

from AARP members email

I have no problem coping with the process of aging. I am most certainly senior in just about every respect imaginable. And now being qualified for membership in the AARP, I find myself receiving emails containing gems such as these, and for that I am grateful. This because now that I have reached that distinguished and respected portion of my life, I have determined that although many other things are (or will soon be) failing, I still have the ability to COUNT (at least to ten).

Untie - . . .

. . . teld  (yeah, it's the title of the song posted here.)
One of my early studio 'ensemble' pieces modeled after all the bebop and hard-bop I listened to in the late 70s and early 80s. Wonderful music. This song is not a Bird/Diz scorcher. It's moderately slow. The left-hand of the piano coordinates with the bass line while the right, the melody of the horns. It's got many warts but was quite ambitious for me at the time. Another educational experience that I enjoy hearing again from time to time.

Accountability . . .

(from https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2022/08/facts-caught-donald-trump-documents.html?via=rss_flipboard)
" . . . Until and unless Trump supporters are confident that former presidents can declassify every national security document that crosses the transom forever using nothing but their eyebrows, and then use it for whatever purposes they seek, what we are going to hear a lot of in the coming weeks is less an actual coherent defense and much more a continuation of “but her emails.” . . . this doesn’t feel like a movement that is ascendant and it doesn’t feel like a movement that is converting a whole ton of new adherents. New Quinnipiac polling shows that Americans, by a margin of 50 percent to 41 percent, think Trump should be prosecuted on criminal charges over his handling of classified documents, and nearly 6 in 10 think he acted inappropriately in handling those documents. That isn’t the dawning of reason, but it is a trend line. . . But based on what we do learn each day, this is a significant win for facts, law, and accountability. . ."

What Is And Is Not . . .

(from https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/trump-mar-a-lago-search-justified)
". . . The truth needs to be set forth plainly and simply, and so let’s get down to brass tacks here. What happened on August 8, 2022, was not tyranny. It was not political persecution. It was not a minor dust up over bureaucratic processes blown out of proportion. It was the criminal justice system operating just like it does with any other private citizen on any other given day ending in a "y." . . . Trump was the president and commander-in-chief up until noon on January 20, 2021. The moment Joe Biden took the Oath of Office, Trump became just another private citizen in his 70s who vacations in Florida during the winter months to avoid the bitter cold back in his native home in the Northeast. He was no longer shielded by any privileges or protections of the Office of the Presidency at the point beyond physical security protection. He is subject to the laws of the United States just like anyone else. . ."

Complacency . . .

It won’t happen.
Turmoil’s not round the bend for us.
All controls are in place;
Neat in their space
See the keeper’s
Keeping vigilant watch
Through a window obscured.
This I assure.
It just can’t
Happen here.
No one saw it
Sneaking up round the corner. Was
Like a thief in the night
Without a fight.
Quite the artist.
Candy-coating what he’s saying
For his own selfish means.
That’s how he leans.
Advocate progressive-sounding ideas.
Tell the people what they want to hear.
There’s no hiding
Dissatisfaction you feel.
Keeps on burning inside.
Still you abide.
