Cheer . . .

Where's the cheer
That I should feel
Inside my heart
This time of year,
While all the televisions
Newspapers and billboards count
The shopping days for me?

It appears
To me that I’m
The only one
Who doesn’t see
The fine and natural
Attraction to what seems part race,
Part obstacle course, I believe.

Long ago I
Heard that we
Celebrate this season;
Anniversary of the birth
Of someone named Jesus.

Through the years,
How my perception
Of it all
Has gone awry,
When so much manufactured
Hype and pressurized requirements
Make it all seem a lie.

How I wish,
Since its the time
Of year that dreams
Can come alive,
That you and I see one November,
When without the retail forecasting,
Some peace on earth,
Goodwill to all arrives.

Regrets . . .

When I start into thinking
About the things that might have been,
I find that my imagination has no end.
And though they’re not without their own attraction,
I can see, each time you look at me,
I am exactly where I want to be.

And maybe I’ll never have that house in the country.
You won’t see me visiting those ritzy discotheques.
But I have no regrets.
No I have no regrets.
See I have no regrets.
No regrets . . .

It’s a human kind of feeling.
It’s one that everybody knows
At least one time, if not another, as they grow, I do suppose.
And though these things cross everybody’s mind
I’ve got the key grasping reality.
It’s the dessert I’m glad I didn’t eat.

Everybody is searching for something
That they’re afraid they might have missed.
And no matter how hard that you’re wishing
To have a second chance.
Don’t regret that you missed the dance,
Because the past is the past and you’re not gonna change it.

If it looks like I am distant,
Like I don’t hear a single word,
All the times that I’m not listening, but you think I really heard,
It doesn’t warrant any serious
Concern, you see. It’s still the same old me,
And like a glove you fit me to a tee.

Increase . . .

. . . your BUZZ . . .

" . . . In 1963, he (Buzzy Linhart) moved to New York City and became friends and roommates with John Sebastian. He also became a protégé of the senior guitarist and folk singer Fred Neil. One of his first bands, with fellow musicians Steve De Naut, Serge Katzen, and Max Ochs, was Seventh Sons, who released a raga-rock LP for ESP Records. Linhart later released a series of solo albums from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s starting with his Philips debut buzzy (the title with a small "b") in 1969. . ."

Winner . . .

". . . The Electoral College cast its votes for president on Monday, officially electing Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States. . . All 538 electors met in their respective states to cast their votes for president based on the election results that were recently certified by all 50 states and Washington, D.C. California's 55 electoral votes pushed Biden over the 270 threshold needed to win. . . "

Only . . .

. . . NFL executive have such worries? . . .

". . . Executives from some teams are concerned about whether the seven players left behind on each team truly will quarantine all weekend and obey the league's COVID-19 protocols while their teammates remain in a controlled NFL environment. By reducing travel squads, the league's goal was to reduce the risk and exposure to large groups, but teams believe that those players were around the team all week anyway, and by removing them from that equation, they now are introducing unnecessary outside risk. The league continues to update its protocols and is doing what it can to preserve and prolong this season, and most moves have been successful. Additional scrutiny for the reduction comes from the potential logistical headache created in the event of late-week positive tests. . ."

Gods . . .

. . . of the computer world have granted me yet another reprieve. My eight-year-old macbook pro began to exhibit some temperamental behavior during the operation of GarageBand the other day. While the good folks at Apple couldn't have been more kind and knowledgeable, well MAYBE they could have been a little more knowledgeable, the problem with the laptop appeared to be leaning well toward terminal. Seems the Big Sur operating system downloaded to my unit just dandily in all its glorious and good, sweet time. But upon attempting to install the program, an error indicating a damage of some sort to the file, appeared upon my multiple attempts. I was resigned to the prospect of spending the better part of the following day on the phone with the good Apple people. In the morning though, as a last-ditch effort, I plunged forward with the process of creating a 'loop' in GB and converting it to a midi file. Although GB did not appear to complete the loop creation process properly, I plowed ahead to create a midi file of the track. Lo and behold, the track was miraculously converted in its entirety and the machine (in my view and for my purposes) has handily side-stepped a death blow. . . for now.

Unique . . .

What do I know about happiness?
Do I possess some kind of key
To things that no one else can see?

Just as far back as my memory goes,
Sometimes it seemed I was alone
Only my point of view and me.

As I reflect,
Some disconnect
Could be afflicting me.
Am I just one
Under the sun,
Or am I quite unique?

Others speak out very easily,
No fear about who may get hurt
By words so hastily dispensed.

For some reason I step back away.
I hesitate to be so bold as to
Presume some insight gained.
