. . . you like the simplicity of solo piano
“The piano ain't got no wrong notes.”
- Thelonious Monk
“I want to play as good as I can, not necessarily as different. I am not interested in consciously changing the essence of my music. I would rather have it reveal itself progressively as I play. Ultimately, what counts is its essential quality, anyway, and differences vanish in a short time.”
- Bill Evans
“To me, the piano in itself is an orchestra.”
- Cecil Taylor
"I would be all over the piano, but Miles would play a few notes that would just wipe out all that fancy stuff I was playing."
- Herbie Hancock
"Only play what you hear. If you don't hear anything, don't play anything."
- Chick Corea
"There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind."
- Duke Ellington
"I always challenge myself. I get out in deep water and I always try to get back. But I get hung up. The audience never knows, but that's when I smile the most, when I show the most ivory."
- Earl Hines
"The first question I ask myself when something doesn't seem to be beautiful is why do I think it's not beautiful. And very shortly you discover that there is no reason."
- John Cage

What's with. . .
. . . Putin? ? ?
(from USA Today. . . )
"The young advertising specialist was handing out tickets for a ride to jail in a police truck in a bit of humor to offset the fear sparked by recent repressions against the opposition movement.
"It lightens the atmosphere, which is very tense right now," Vasilyeva said. "I even offered a ticket to a police officer, and he smiled too."
Demonstrators started out at Pushkin Square to show that are still angry over a presidential election they say was stolen by Putin, who is now on his third presidential term.
Organizers said about 120,000 people joined the march.
Police, who had clashed with protesters at the last protest, on the night before Putin's inauguration in May, stood by but took no action. Police said about 20,000 protesters arrived. . . "

Change . . .
. . . is good. . .
(from MSNBC by Merrill Knox on June 10, 2012))
"After three years at MSNBC, Dylan Ratigan is leaving the network to pursue opportunities outside the television business.Ratigan, the 4pmET host, will anchor his final show on June 22. In a note to MNSBC staffers this afternoon, Ratigan said he will put his time into telling the stories of individuals who “seize new tools and take cultural risks to resolve our challenges.”
“While it may seem unconventional to leave a rapidly growing political cable show on the eve of a Presidential election, to me, the timing couldn’t be better,” Ratigan wrote. “In fact, the thrill of an opportunity to expand new systems that cost less and give us more in every part of life is impossible to pass up.”
Ratigan joined MSNBC in 2009 after six years at CNBC. He began as the 9-11amET anchor and took over his current 4pmET timeslot six months later.
“Dylan’s distinct voice and his fearless approach to tackling complicated issues has been a key part of MSNBC’s growth and success,” president Phil Griffin wrote in a note to MSNBC staffers this afternoon. “We’ll be watching as Dylan begins his next mission.” . . . "
This can be good for us citizens. Politics, possibly Dylan?

Ever Wonder . . .
. . . exactly what a silverfish is. . . ?
That's NOT it!
(from wikipedia.org)
"Silverfish are nocturnal, elongated and flattened insects typically 13-25 mm (.5-1 in) long. Their abdomens taper at the end, giving them a fish-like appearance. The newly hatched are whitish, but develop a greyish hue and metallic shine as they get older. They have three long cerci at the tips of their abdomens, one off the end of their body, one facing left, and one facing right. They also have two small compound eyes, despite other members of Thysanura being completely eyeless, such as the family Nicoletiidae.
Like other species in Apterygota, silverfish completely lack wings. They have long antennae, and move in a wiggling motion that resembles the movement of a fish. This, coupled with their appearance, influences their common name. Silverfish typically live for two to eight years."
Wouldn't normally mention such mundane matters but one is circling me on the ceiling as I sit here writing this.

The calendar . . .
. . . is running my life . . .
I don't think it's 'popularity' but lately I feel like the calendar is the be-all end-all of my life. And as I do not have a smart phone (smart phones and dumb owners do not a compatible relationship make) I fumble with trying to make calendar entries on my dumb phone, foul them up, then forget the date against which I was making an entry in the first place.
And since I am such a klutz, pen and paper would simply not work for me. I would most certainly drop the pen at every opportunity or have the ink leak in my shirt pocket and last but not least, how could I possibly remember to take that with me everywhere I go???

Reading . . .
. . . about the economy . . .
and measuring against expectations.
Why should I accept that their expectations are realistic when for the past twenty years
greed has become the driving force in U.S. business?
