". . . The Democratic National Committee has rolled back restrictions introduced by presidential candidate Barack Obama in 2008 that banned donations from federal lobbyists and political action committees.
The decision was viewed with disappointment Friday morning by good government activists who saw it as a step backward in the effort to limit special interest influence in Washington. Some suggested it could provide an advantage to Hillary Clinton’s fundraising efforts.
“It is a major step in the wrong direction,” said longtime reform advocate Fred Wertheimer. “And it is completely out of touch with the clear public rejection of the role of political money in Washington,” expressed during the 2016 campaign. . ."

If, as the gun advocates say, we don't need more laws, we need to enforce the gun laws already on the books, then LET'S DO IT!!!!! . . . and not wait for something like this to happen again.
(from TimeNewsFeed)
"Early reports indicate that approximately 50 people were hurt and at least 14 were killed when a masked gunman opened fire during a midnight showing of the Dark Knight Rises at a mall in Aurora, Colo.
Police and witness reports indicate that a gunman fired into the audience 15 minutes into the midnight showing of the film. Police confirmed that the shooter — who entered theater number 9 wearing a gas mask and released a canister filled with gas — fired a rifle multiple times into the audience. Aurora police chief Dan Oates said that 10 died during the attack, and four more died in area hospitals.
One person is in police custody, and authorities are saying that it appears this suspect acted alone. Police, however, are still scouring the immediate area and other local movie theaters for any possible accomplices. A Colo. bomb squad was also called to check reports that an explosion occurred within the movie theater, and to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked outside of the cinema.
At an early morning press conference, Oates said his officers found the gunman with a mask, a rifle and a handgun by a car behind the theater — at least one more weapon was found within the man’s vehicle. The police chief added that the suspect told officers after being taken into custody that there may be explosives in his apartment. Oates told reporters that the authorities are currently securing a residence in North Aurora.
Witnesses say that the bullets went through the wall from the theater where the shooting took place and hit several victims in an adjacent Dark Knight midnight showing."

. . an open-ended law in a particular state called the "Stand Your Ground" law. This law allowed people to defend themselves with deadly force as long as they "reasonably believed" it was necessary to protect themselves.
In this state there was a very bad man who found the opportunity to invoke this law, claiming he was acting in self-defense, and was forced to kill an unarmed teenager. The unarmed teenager happened to make a phone call to a friend only minutes before his death, which made it clear the teenager did not pose a violent threat to the very bad man, calling public attention to a law that clears a suspect from prosecution if the state does not find evidence to dispute their claim of self-defense.
In short, this was a very bad law.
The law extended what has been called the Castle Doctrine, which asserts that a person has the right to defend his or her home with deadly force if they are in "fear of great bodily injury." Unlike similar laws across the country, this particular state's provision does not require residents to retreat before using lethal force -- whether it be with a gun, knife or baseball bat -- against a home intruder, a concept that is based upon the English common-law idea that an individual's home is their "castle."
With this very bad law a person no longer needs to prove that they feared for their safety, only that the individual they shot, even if unarmed, had forcefully and unlawfully intruded. Unlike the initial Castle Doctrine, the newer law extends the principle to vehicles and public places and also does away with an earlier requirement that said a person attacked in a public place must retreat if it is a viable option.
Many people involved did NOT live happily ever after.
