Slower . . .

In all your haste, do you ever try
To take the time to stop and see the scenery?
There's move beauty around than you could ever imagine.
And it isn't all purely visual.
You say you haven't done it?
You haven't even tried?
You must slow it all down
And take a Slowride . . .

Fortunately . . .

 . . . cooler heads prevailed

(from https://news.stanford.edu/2022/11/10/takeaways-2022-midterms-relief-surprise/)
While votes from the U.S. midterm elections are still being counted and the full results of various state races are not entirely certain, what is clear is Americans did not succumb to paranoia or violence as feared, say Stanford researchers. . . According to some scholars, the election felt almost like a return to normalcy: The most vocal election deniers lost, candidates running on extreme platforms failed to resonate with voters . . . fell reasonably within the margins of error. In an election where democracy was on the ballot, it proved to be one that was largely free, fair, and trustworthy.

Depends . . .

. . . upon what you're measuring

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and
the affection of children;
To earn the approbation of honest critics and endure
the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To give of one's self;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and
sung with exultation;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you
have lived -
This is to have succeeded.

Confetti . . .

The proactive approach is much preferred
When things that ail become absurd.
No beating round the bush for me.
It's eye to eye with what I see.
Action is quite therapeutic.
No therapy is better than music.
Play it, sing it.
Rub it into your belly.
Fill the air with it like it's confetti.

The Cosmos . . .

oho
[ oh-hoh ]
interjection
(used as an exclamation to express surprise, taunting, exultation, etc.

OHO? Aha! That's a name that rings bells. Baltimore's answer to Pink Floyd, an American underground icon, a band that came out of nowhere playing music the chroniclers swore was years ahead of its time. OHO sneaks around the musical conventions that have mummified so many others, unleashing sliders where you'd expect curve balls, fast balls where you'd expect change-ups. Part of its their sense of humor, part of it their unerring humanity.  Definitely, one of a kind and all in good fun...its got to be.

Not only has the album AHORA finally been released, OHO continues to imagine and create new music, as evidenced by the single Cosmos of the Soul, also now available from most on-line music-sellers.

Mangoes . . .

. . . etc.

Dancing, I've heard, is good exercise,
And I'm sure that it's true, still I try and I try.
But my feet, I can tell you just don't follow through.
The music, as always, makes the party - like glue.
On occasions, which rare,
It works fairly well.
My score may be 'FAIR'
Still it's early to tell.
But, assured, may you rest,
Though I may not be graceful,
I think music's the best,
And the better when tasteful.
It's pure joy, I would posit,
Like eating a mango,
Please excuse these bad rhymes
Here's my song called T-Tango.

True . . .

. . . colors, and some serious issues

(from The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021, by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser)
". . . (Lindsay) Graham seemed intoxicated. "He let me into his world," he enthused. The access and constant consultations thrilled him. "I have never been called by a president this much in my life," he said.  His fealty flipped, he now expressed outrage that anyone would have the effrontery to denigrate Trump, even going on CNN to berate the media for labeling the president "some kind of kook not fit to be president" - the same words Graham himself had once used. . . McCain was disgusted and let Graham know it. . . Graham's main contribution to the day of (MaCain's) mourning was to invite Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. McCain's grieving daughter Meghan said)  . . . "Funeral crashers . . . 'I hope this is the most uncomfortable moment of your life.' " . . . "We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness," Meghan said as Graham sat stone-faced in the audience, "the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who lived lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served." . . . "The American of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great." . . . "

Doubles . . .

The week was a good one.
The weather was nice.
Many hours did I practice
Wanted to be precise
In performance of the pieces
We'd agreed upon for that night.

On arrival, just one hour ahead
Of the one at which we would start,
Something strange, seemed was brewing.
Our mere presence surprising,
Was causing a real disconcert.

The appearance of a fellow troubadour
Brought the feeling of sickness inside.
He was there, just like us, to play music tonight.
At the sight of each other, we sighed.
It's got to the point it's mundane, with this place,
A routine like a supper that's cooked.
You see now, once again, for whatever the reason,
She most certainly has double-booked.

Almost . . .

No matter how much effort made,
You can't expect the earth to move.
There's not always the fairest trade,
Least not one of which you will approve.
The hope is all will find great delight.
But in spite of your input they just can't quite.

Epilog . . .

ep·i·logue
/ˈepəˌlôɡ,ˈepəˌläɡ/
noun
  1. a section or speech at the end of a book or play that serves as a comment on or a conclusion to what has happened.
    "the meaning of the book's title is revealed in the epilogue"

Epilog was originally the middle-section (piano solo) for Third-Hand Intelligence, pre-OHO's treatment of the song on Gazebo. This recording is a particular favorite of mine. I like it's clarity, crisp intonation of each instrument, simplicity of the small ensemble and the dynamic performance which renders the scattered errors irrelevant. But that's just ME.

Glorious . . .

Tommy came from far across the sea
Looking for some opportunity.
In his land there's almost none.
He's only one of many millions.
No one told him streets were paved with gold
Like they used to in the days of old.
But he heard from some who knew
Of all the things to do,
He could accomplish
Searching for glorious freedom
Here in America.
He can be anything
He wants to be.
With his wealth accumulating,
And he's got every liberty,
Deep in his heart he knows he
Never will be free.
Ravi took a wife they had a child
A year or two before they came stateside.
And he had such big brown eyes,
Too young to realize what he was seeing.
On the surface one would never guess
That this family wasn't quite as blessed
As you might believe they were.
He isn't sure of her
Or where they're heading.
Someone from oh so long ago still remains
Firmly embedded in his soul.
She wasn't of the same persuasion as he.
His friends and family convinced him
That it couldn't be.
Broken hearts take time.
Broken hearts take time to heal.
When he finally felt the strength he'd need
To live the kind of life he'd like to lead.
As the heartache dulled with time,
Made up his mind,
Back when he married.
Realizing that he'd never find
The true companion that he had in mind,
Like the one he almost had.
He placed a wanted ad
In the local paper.

Wisdom . . .

Sometimes I think I've got the stuff
Which makes one feel he's up to snuff.
Some do  think that money is
The thing that makes them all the biz.
But I know more, by far, than this.
Money brings only temporary bliss.
Pure joy has roots in a much better system
And now with age, I've attained such wisdom.

Harry . . .

". . . Mr. Weinberg -- who was listed in the phone book and answered his own phone -- had no trouble communicating with reporters. If they called, he'd bark a gruff "no comment" and hang up. . . Criticized as a callous landlord who neglected his properties on Howard Street and in other Baltimore neighborhoods, Mr. Weinberg didn't seem destined to end life with a grand act of public service. It wasn't until he was diagnosed as having cancer about eight years ago that he announced that he would give his money away after he'd finished making it. . . He'd grown up in Baltimore, where the city's great philanthropists were revered, his son said. Like Johns Hopkins and George Peabody, he wanted to give something back to the community. . . Mr. Weinberg wasn't particularly religious, but he strongly supported Jewish causes and charities. He also never forgot those who helped him. . . As children, Mr. Weinberg and his siblings were treated free at St. Agnes Hospital. Years later, William Weinberg saw a large check to the hospital on his brother's desk and asked about it. . . "Goddammit," Harry Weinberg told him. "You of all people ought to know what that's for." . . Mr. Weinberg also developed a special concern for the elderly. During trips to Atlantic City, he avoided the casinos, instead spending time talking to old people on the Boardwalk, asking how they were making ends meet. . . On his final 1989 pilgrimage to Israel -- a nation whose birth he witnessed firsthand in 1948 -- he asked to visit several of Tel Aviv's nursing homes. . . It was a humid summer day, and Mr. Weinberg was surprised that the nursing homes were not air-conditioned. So he wrote a check for $1 million to pay for air-conditioning for every nursing home in Israel. . . In Baltimore, he spent $20,000 to ensure that residents of the Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital receive premium ice cream twice every month. . ."
