“. . . That said, it would be a mistake to assume that a Republican-held Senate would not be able to assert its will on public policy in a meaningful way. It might not be able to pass game-changing legislation high on the GOP wish list — a complete dismantling of the Affordable Care Act, for instance — but it might be able to nibble at the edges or put vulnerable Democrats on the spot. In the case of Obamacare, the targets are clear — go after the tax on medical devices, the employer mandate or other unpopular elements in the program. The strategy would be to weaken Obamacare, put it deeply in the red or make it so dysfunctional that eventually a repeal would seem like an act of euthanasia. . .”
This is what our ‘lawmakers’ do - destroy what the OTHER SIDE has done instead of helping their constituents. Wouldn’t it make more sense to ‘fix’ the unpopular elements in the program
to make that program work better to provide affordable healthcare to the population?

". . . Chief Justice Roberts appeared to tip his hand when he told Mr. Verrilli that the parade of horribles — all kinds of religious exemptions being claimed by all sorts of employers, punching holes in the uniform application of the laws — could be avoided by a ruling limited to closely held enterprises, like S corporations that pass their earnings through to their shareholders. That would leave the issue of, say, an Exxon claiming religious freedom rights to another day. Later, Justice Breyer suggested he might be open to that type of resolution. . ."
. . . well OF COURSE they're OPEN to THAT!!!!! They think corporations are PEOPLE!!!!!

. . . here’s a short list of what is really wrong with our economy:
*An economy that concentrates wealth with the top 1%, perpetuated by false claims that the system fosters production and creates jobs
*An all-out attack on unions to destabilize them and drive down workers’ income and benefits
*A refusal to provide healthcare to all Americans through a single-payer healthcare system
*A disinterest in educating our children and a shift of the cost of an education onto students—over $1 trillion in college loan debt
*A refusal to acknowledge overwhelming environmental scientific data and to take the steps necessary to move to a green economy and oil independence
With such blatant disregard for the people’s interests, outraged Americans are questioning the corporate-controlled two-party system and have begun to look for an alternative.

AMBIENCE & WINE
I heard the tail-end of a conservative radio talk show the other day which both frightened and comforted me at the same time. The topic of discussion was repeal of the Healthcare bill, a bill that conservatives and dittoheads like to call 'Obamacare'. (Clever, aren't they? No partisanship there.)
FRIGHTENING ---------- Anyway, a caller was voicing a 'constitutional' opinion which would have done any government employee worth his salt proud. He said that the cost of healthcare is rising because emergency rooms treat illegal aliens free of charge. He continued that if someone enters a hospital emergency room seeking treatment but has no insurance and no cash for which to pay for services, he should be turned away. TURNED AWAY! JUST LIKE THAT! No qualms, no conscience, no compassion. Simply turned out into the street. And this he said, is based upon the Constitution of the United States of America. Government should not be involved. (Human decency be hanged.)
COMFORTING ---------- To his credit, the conservative talk show host questioned, clarified and gave the guy every opportunity to concede some iota of compassion or consideration. But alas, all for nought. Finally, the host said something to the effect of, 'I hear you' and then proceeded to say that the caller was 'really hardcore' and hung up.
