. . . Diverge . . .


People talk about all kinds of things
Like the weather
Like their politics
Like the things that they watch on TV
But still the roads diverge

Funny though all this chatter don't mean a thing
When compared with the wondering
When they speak of just how
The roads diverge

There comes a moment
You’re suddenly face with a choice
All that you thought that you
Knew becomes smoke
And all of your detailed and
Best laid-out plans
Have become just one
Great big joke

Some will cope
Some will agonize endlessly
Pleading take this away from me
This decision I face
When roads diverge

Broken . . .


Just when I thought my little
Empire would never be conquered.
I was invincible.
Went from the frying pan
Right into the fire.
Now I don’t care at all.
I’m one smooth operator,
But standing two feet tall;
Was like some great dictator.

Damn the coffee.
Damn the sugar.
Damn the colonies.
Where’s my future?
What awaits me?
I don’t want to be
Napoleon of broken dreams.

So when I got myself
A taste of that glorious power.
It was intoxicating.
The more I took became
The more that I wanted.
But soon the thrill was gone.
You’ll want to meet your maker.
I’ll pay for what I’ve done
Just like that great dictator.

Could be people like me
Should be alone.
Nothing is ever enough;
Enough for this eccentricity.

It’s said, by nature, that a
Man can become territorial.
And I’ve been known to do it.
Simple offense became
An outright obsession.
I got my just desserts.
Maybe I’ll see you later.
But still it could be worse
Just like that great dictator.

Together . . .



The moon in June and sweet perfume
Have been used in a million love songs.
But they just don’t belong in a song about you.
Many is the time I want to tell you that I love you.
I tried so hard to write it down in oh so many different ways.
But every word I’ve written seems to come out wrong.
And every catchy phrase doesn’t quite say
All that I want it to say.

We’ll be together
For a very long time.

This hue of blue that I feel without you
Isn’t something a sane man would say.
But I said it today when the words got away.
I want to cut the fat. I want to cut right to the chase now.
I want to tell the world exactly how you make me feel.
But feeling is the easy part;  the telling is hard.
Words don’t mean anything until til you try to
Speak from inside your heart.

I need to touch your hand; don’t want to face another day without you.
My lack of voice; articulation of emotion’s overpowering me.
But how can I express these things from deep down inside.
I’m just a mortal man trying to tell you all of these thoughts I can’t hide.
