It is also that America will be a better place. “We’re going to get elected officials that make decisions for the people, not just for their party,” Lindell said. There will be “no more machines” in this messianic America, meaning no more voting machines: “On both sides, people are opening their eyes.” In this great moment of national renewal, there will be no more corruption, just good government, goodwill, goodness all around. . .He will not, on August 10, find that “the experts” agree with him. Some have already provided careful explanations as to why the “packet captures” can’t be what he says they are. Others think that the whole discussion is pointless. When I called Chris Krebs, the Trump administration’s director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, he refused even to get into the question of whether Lindell has authentic data, because the whole proposal is absurd. The heavy use of paper ballots, plus all of the postelection audits and recounts, mean that any issues with mechanized voting systems would have been quickly revealed. “It’s all part of the grift,” Krebs told me. “They’re exploiting the aggrieved audience’s confirmation bias and using scary yet unintelligible imagery to keep the Big Lie alive, despite the absence of any legitimate evidence.". . . He is our country after all, or one face of our country: hyper-optimistic and overconfident, ignorant of history and fond of myths, firm in the belief that we alone are the exceptional nation and we alone have access to exceptional truths. Safe in his absolute certainty. . . "

Dust . . .

Meteors that come once a year;
Quite a show of fireworks 
When you’re there to see them.
Shooting stars fantastically glow.
All too soon no one can say
Where they are or gone to.

Back on earth we average reside.
Most of us will never know such adoration.
So I go my ordinary way.
Do my job and feed my kids;
This world and wonder.

Dust and gas -
That’s what they’re made of.
Why all the fascination?

Fabulous! They’ll take your breath away.
They will dazzle with their style 
And their savoir faire.
Improvise; they make their own moves.
All the cattle follow close 
Behind from the pasture.

Why couldn’t I be
One among those many millions?
Why can’t someone see
My astrological worth?
What causes the sea
Of heavenly bodies to glow like they do?
Shining so brightly for me and for you.
Sooner or later they burn themselves out
But oh so beautifully.

Meteors have nothing to fear.
From their distant firmament
They shine for the masses.
Safe above, removed from earthly life,
From uncertainty that lines the 
Cloth of our mortal existence.

For hours, broadcast live on television and streamed on social media, rioters attacked law enforcement and eventually breached the halls of Congress in an effort to stop the certification of the 2020 presidential election. . . Their goal was to subvert America’s democratic process — and their means to this end was brute force and violent assaults on the men and women of the Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police Department. . . How did this happen? Why? Who spurred this effort? Was it organized? When did our government leaders know of the impending attacks and what were their responses? What level of preparation or warnings did our law enforcement have? Was there coordination between the rioters and any members of Congress, or with staff? . . . We need answers and we need accountability, and the only way to get that is a full investigation and understanding of what happened to ensure nothing like this ever happens again. . . "
