Gathered . . .

Love,
Triumphs I’ve heard,
Over all.
Is it really true?
One
Many-splendored thing,
Conquering
Obstacles revealed.

Gathered for this occasion,
Politely civil in a social dance.
Mannerly; respectful discourse,
All in a room that’s full of elephants.

Talk,
Civility,
Must be maintained
So we don’t set them free.

How many people
Exist right here in this place,
So much the same?
Pride always goes
Before the fall so they say.
It’s like a parade.

Don’t
Think its your own
Imagination ‘cause its it’s real.
Though,
Circus-like true,
These pachyderms cannot be viewed.

Back . . .

. . . story of OHO

Around 1970 at a Baltimore club called "Bluesette," what would become OHO had its beginnings in a group known as Quinn. In 1971, Little Hans, a gothic-progressive quartet featuring two keyboardists, guitar and percussion, evolved from the Quinn lineup. In 1973, the keyboardist and some friends began a period of crazed experimentation that would lead to their most infamous incarnation OHO. This latest collaboration resulted in a debut album "Okinawa". In June, 1974 came the follow-up, "Vitamin OHO." The arrival of the new wave brought Dark Side, Trixy & The Testones and Food For Worms but each of these bands is subject enough for a story of its own. The 1984 version of OHO recorded "Rocktronics", a 7 song EP proving that the OHO moniker was synonymous with the word persistence. In 1990, the eponymously entitled "OHO" was released on Sky Records with acid-folk edginess and trademark lyrical unpredictability combining unwavering female vocals and crystalline production fueled by assiduous songwriting. The album was listed as an "editors' choice" for 1990 in CD Review (06/91 Vol. VII Number 10). In 1991 OHO signed with Little Wing Of Refugees based in Kastl, Germany releasing "Vitamin OHO" in 1991 and reissuing "Okinawa" in 1995  followed by  "ECCE OHO" on CD.  The 2002 OHO Music (OM052) edition of "Recollections" was also included as a CD bonus in Progression magazine #41, in the Fall 2002 issue. In March 2008 OHO released their retrospective 2 disc CD/DVD "Bricolage" consisting largely of previously unreleased sonic and video material (culled from their 1983-2008 "Mach III" phase), dominated by stunning female vocalization with tough lyrical musings, abundant hook-laden melodies, and intriguing arrangements of their jubilant, jangly folk/prog/rock. In 2010, former "Ful Treatment" keyboardist and musical collaborator Ray Jozwiak joined the group resulting in a  [Power] trio for live performances of original material and sophisticated cover tunes, as founding member Jay and long-time veteran David continue their creative adventures in the studio with Ray and a host of fine and varied musicians and technicians in pursuit of the elusive rock'n roll dream.

Catch Jay & Ray live at Harvest Tide Steakhouse, Lewes, DE this Friday at 5:00PM.

No Regrets . . .

When I start into thinking
About the things that might have been,
I find that my imagination has no end.
And though they’re not without their own attraction,
I can see, each time you look at me,
I am exactly where I want to be.

And maybe I’ll never have that house in the country.
You won’t see me visiting those ritzy discotheques.
But I have no regrets.
No I have no regrets.
See I have no regrets.
No regrets . . .

It’s a human kind of feeling.
It’s one that everybody knows
At least one time, if not another, as they grow, I do suppose.
And though these things cross everybody’s mind
I’ve got the key grasping reality.
It’s the dessert I’m glad I didn’t eat.

Everybody is searching for something
That they’re afraid they might have missed.
And no matter how hard that you’re wishing
To have a second chance.
Don’t regret that you missed the dance,
Because the past is the past and you’re not gonna change it.

If it looks like I am distant,
Like I don’t hear a single word,
All the times that I’m not listening, but you think I really heard,
It doesn’t warrant any serious
Concern, you see. It’s still the same old me,
And like a glove you fit me to a T.

A Capella . . .

(from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_cappella)
". . . A cappella . . . Italian for 'in the style of the chapel'. . .  music is a performance by a singer or a singing group without instrumental accompaniment, or a piece intended to be performed in this way. The term a cappella was originally intended to differentiate between Renaissance polyphony and Baroque concertato musical styles. In the 19th century, a renewed interest in Renaissance polyphony, coupled with an ignorance of the fact that vocal parts were often doubled by instrumentalists, led to the term coming to mean unaccompanied vocal music. The term is also used, rarely, as a synonym for alla breve. . ."

I’ve never been one to follow trends.
I won’t be with the crowd
When they round the bend.
But I’ll be here until the very end
‘Cause, where it’s at is here with you.

Fancy parties leave me cold and drained,
Discos, crowds and posturing in vain
Only feed some silly appetite unnamed.
Where it’s at is here with you.

I don’t want to see the moon,
Fly to Paris, May or June.
I just want a one-way fare
To anyplace where you’ll be there.

I don’t need gold or precious things,
Fancy clothes or even diamond rings.
I just want the thrill that being with you brings.
‘Cause, where it’s at is here with you.

For fame or power, I have no desire.
I don’t crave acceptance, or to be admired.
I’m just happy sitting with you by the fire.
Where it’s at is here with you.

Here With You

Devices . . .

I've got a charger for my phone.
My e-reader has one too.
The laptop's useless without one
So charging's what I do.

The iPad without juice will die,
Several hours will suffice.
But thankfully, no power renewal's
Required by this device.

Ahead . . .

I am a firm believer that competition is highly over-rated, and though it may appear that this song is about competition, it is in fact simply a love song, and not.

You've always been ahead of me;
One fact that I,
In my infinite wisdom,
Could not always see.
But in the end you always convinced me
Things aren't always
What they appear;
The things I've always looked for.

Once long ago, before we met,
I thought I could
Singlehandedly make the
Spinning world go away;
Just like some king
from back in those bygone days.
But I was wrong.
I don't belong
Inside this category.

Seemed to be,
At the time to me,
To my advantage.
Missing why,
Not knowing
When to try
To start believing
In my very own
Self determination.

Sometimes at night when I'm alone,
The solitude
And the quiet can bring out
All the worst in my head.
But now it seems that isn't so big or bad.
I've learned a thing,
Or maybe two,
And just ahead there’s always you.

Catalog . . .

. . . girl

Her eyes say ‘come closer’.
Her hair falls down her shoulders like a blanket on her skin.
If you do you’ll never win.
She looks the same at every man.
That look says ‘I’m confection.
You can’t have a taste unless your doctor says you can.’

Her lips purse ever-so-slightly.
You think she wants to invite you out to spend some time with her.
The whole routine becomes a blur.
She says it all without a word.
She looks like pure perfection
And you’ll never ever see the likes of her again.

But she’s mine.
I know she’ll never leave me.
She’s fine,
And she’s never deceived me.
Other eyes admire and desire her too
And she smiles in response to all glances
From those who care to see all of her delicate lines
On the page where you’ll find
The two dimensions of my catalog girl.

They all say ‘she’s not bright.’
But when the spotlight is lit you can see her business sense.
It’s sincere intelligence.
She works so hard at what she does.
Intensity and concentration on her face shows
She is so much more than fluff.

Her shape’s like a tape.
She weight one-hundred-eight
And she looks so appealing
In clothing revealing.
Her heart’s on her sleeve.
That’s what you should believe.
She practices that come-on look.
Improves it more in every book.
She is the epitome of catalog girl.

One day soon
She will no longer possess the assets of those bygone days.
The years will pass just like a phase,
Nothing but memories in a haze.
And though her star will fade,
A little glory will remain upon a table near the chaise.
