What's It Got? . . .

The song has no lyrics,
And no verbal content.
It has no fine narrative,
Prose, even poetry,
No sleek science-fiction
Even neuropsychiatry.
It utilizes nothing
Like language that's spoken,
Not modern, nor ancient,
Not up-to-date token.
It's quite simply music-
mere notes and some rhythm.
It still tells a story.
It was my own decision.

Better Lies Ahead . . .

I don’t ask much,
Living my life the way that I want.
I stay in touch with what goes on out there.
I’ve seen trouble. I’ve seen heartache.
But my time here
Has been long enough to
Instill certain qualities.
Seems the more that I witness,
All the more that I wish
I could hear what you’re saying.
We’re all better than this.
Let’s identify exactly what we miss.

Beyond perilous moors
The brave sea glitters.
Better lies ahead.

Whether or not
We realize the years flow upstream.
Things that we’ve got aren’t always what they seem.
Your and my faiths are so different.
Each is placed in
Antipodal reference
So painful to reconcile.
If we stop trying,
What can we do?
What’s in the future
For me and you?
There’s both right and wrong but only reality prevails.

Remix . . .

Ours is a sensory world
So many sources abound to entice
Still this mortal marathon’s run
The trick’s in
Pacing yourself
Finishing’s more than the win

Ears to see and eyes to hear
Understand direction where to steer
All the tender subtleties
Every little nuance there
Ears to see and eyes to hear
Super-Sensory powers instilling fear
Better than invisibility
Leaping buildings
Flying high

Noise from all sides all decibels
Arresting every sensation possessed

One step forward
Two steps back
How much can you take
If doing the same thing over and over
Brings no change
Will you do it once again

I possess no bravery in matters
Any more than anyone else

Buying . . .

So I said,
I've got a roof o'er my head.
Some people can't even say the same thing.
But it's still not a fact
I can take any comfort in.
I want more to make up my legacy.
I'm not poor but everybody's telling me

Money can't buy everything.
You've heard it time again.
No money can't buy happiness.
When will you learn this fact of life my friend?

So I said,
I've got my very own bed.
I don't give it much thought
When I lay down my head.
But it's cold and it's lonely
In December on the street.
Why do you tell me these kinds of things.
I want more of luxuries that wealth can bring.

I want to be a squire a king a country gentleman
If I can if I can.
I want to get respect for what I have
And not for what I am,
Just a man, just a man.

So I said,
It's more than daily bread
That I'm talking about.
Can't you hear what I said?
You see, everything changes
But we have to admit,
What exists needs to be recognized,
Not merely out of our fear of being chastised.

Shameless . . .

. . . promotion of someone else's (wonderful) music . . .

(from https://en-academic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/4818089)
". . . (David Barrett) is the producer of The Beatles Complete On Ukulele where he will be re-recording the complete works of the Beatles (185 songs), rearranging the songs in styles ranging from hip-hop to country to heavy metal. Each arrangement includes a ukulele. . . Artists including Samantha Fox, Wang Chung and Victor Spinetti have appeared on the project which began in January 2009 and is set to complete in July 2012. . ."

Attraction . . .

Every hair upon your head
Has got to be in place for the camera.
Every place you happen to be
The people stare.

Cause, you are not the main attraction.
But oh, how you wanted to be.

Don’t equate each little thing
That happened in the past to the present.
Don’t expect each person to see
The things you see.

Do you ever think of anyone else?
Does concern come crossing your mind?
There’s enough conceit under your own belt
To last a lifetime.

If your dreams should ever come true,
I’ll see that spiteful face on the cover
Of a tabloid where the headline reads,
“She wants to be . . . “

Nothing but the main attraction.
But oh, how you wanted to be.

Step One . . .

(from https://coloradonewsline.com/2021/06/23/leave-god-out-of-government/ by Trish Zornio)
". . . In recent polling, only 64% of Americans say they are convinced God exists. Church attendance is at an all-time low, dipping below 50% of Americans. Already 1 in 5 Americans no longer identify with a structured religion, and it’s even higher in younger generations. Who can blame them? When some religious leaders still consider LGBTQ communities and women’s rights a sin, is it any wonder? Add to that the fundamentalists who refute evolution and white evangelicals who are likely to support QAnon, more and more religion looks to be going the way of lava lamps and mood rings. . . Thankfully, in America, we don’t need to come to agreement regarding celestial omnipotence. We do, however, need to accept each other’s freedom of beliefs — and that includes my ability not to believe. . . Or, at least it should.. . . Just once can’t I get my government without a side of God?. . . Politicians are shy to crack down on the overreach of religion in government. Perhaps it’s out of fear of seeming anti-American. Perhaps it’s a fear of offending core political bases. Either way, neither side seems particularly keen to court the atheists and agnostics of America despite our rising popularity. . ."
