. . . No, it's not Halloween yet. . . but it's scary. . .
(from NBCNews.com)
". . . "The public polls are what the public polls are," Romney Political Director Rich Beeson told reporters. "I kind of hope the Obama campaign is basing their campaign on what the public polls say. We don’t. We have confidence in our data and our metrics."
What the Romney team’s data indicated about Ohio, Beeson wouldn't say. He argued that Romney was inside the margin of error here “by any stretch,” and dismissed the much-hyped Obama ground game in Ohio as activity confused with progress. . . "
When the election is done and over, I suppose the Romney camp will claim they won also, in spite of the election results. Heck, 'elections are what elections are'. Scarier (remember THAT word from 2008?) than President Romney, is the prospect of the yahoos currently in charge of his campaign ending up with CABINET POSITIONS!

(from IT'S EVEN WORSE THAN IT LOOKS; HOW THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTIONAL SYSTEM COLLIDED WITH THE NEW POLITICS OF EXTREMISM by Thomas E. Mann and Norman J. Ornstein)
". . . A new law that flatly outlaws the super PACs would be the best route. But as the DISCLOSE Act vote in the 111th Congress shows, passing any campaign reform law without sixty Democrats in the Senate and a Democratic majority in the House is next to impossible. Also close to impossible would be reform of the FEC or a new set of commissioners, at least as long as Mitch McConnell remains Senate Republican Leader; he has made it clear that protecting the FEC as it now exists, that is, as a lawless agency, is a top priority for him. As Public Citizen's Craig Holman has noted, "[McConnell] is really the whole key to the FEC. . . . He realized several years ago that a very effective way to minimize the effect of federal laws is to undermine the regulator." So absent a recess appointment strategy on the part of the president, the government has to look for other options to provide disclosure and prevent brazen and illegal coordination. As a first option, the Justice Department could prosecute violations of the coordination bans in cases where the brazen behavior has been most evident. Justice does not need to wait for the FEC. . . "

Do you know who said this? (Not ABOVE. BELOW!!) Fortunately, he will not be our next president. . . not that he had a snowball's chance in hades. . .
"We made a decision over the weekend that while this presidential race
for us is over for me and we will suspend our campaign effective today.
We are not done fighting."
Didn't we recently have a president this articulate?

. . . Rick Santorum is obviously unqualified, and his entire campaign is based upon inflammatory rhetoric, fundamentalist religion, and theatrics. . .
Just witness just some of the gems uttered by the Republican candidate:
“. . . I think the Democrats are actually worried he [Obama] may go to
Indonesia and bow to more Muslims. . . ”
". . . Many of the Christian faith have said, well, that’s OK; contraception
is OK. It’s not OK. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that
is counter to how things are supposed to be. . . ”
" . . . “That’s not to pick on homosexuality. It’s not, you know, man on child,
man on dog, or whatever the case may be. . . "
". . . A few days ago, GOP Presidential candidate Rick Santorum put his foot
in his mouth by saying “I don’t want to make
black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money". . . “I looked at that, and I didn't say that. If you look at it, what I
started to say is a word and then sort of changed and it sort of - blah
- came out. And people said I said ‘black.’ I didn't," . . . “And I can tell you, I don't use - I don't - first off, I don't use
the term ‘black’ very often. I use the term ‘African-American’ more than
I use ‘black' ... I think sometimes you want to give someone the
benefit of the doubt if it's a little bit of a blurred word. . . "
. . .BUT, upon hearing yesterday's news, I suddenly viewed Rick Santorum as . . . well, as a human being. . .
". . . GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s campaign
says his hospitalized daughter is recovering and could be released
soon. Santorum spokesman Hogan Gidley said Monday that
3-year-old Bella could be released from a northern Virginia hospital by
the end of the day. She was hospitalized Friday. Her father did not
campaign Monday so he could be with his daughter, who suffers from a
rare genetic condition. Bella was hospitalized earlier this year with
pneumonia. Her father faces an uphill battle against front-runner Mitt
Romney in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Santorum
often says Bella wasn’t expected to live beyond her first birthday. . . "
I can't say "I'll pray for her" because since I don't believe petitioning an invisible, omniscient, theistic and invasive being accomplishes anything (one of many areas where I disagree with Santorum). But, I can say with all honesty and sincerity with regard to Bella, I hope all goes well.

If you ever had a feeling that you might possibly vote for Mr. Gingrich, read his latest quote below. Surely, you would not want to have a President with a memory as bad as that.
Gingrich has been unrelenting in criticizing Barack Obama’s foreign policies. At his campaign event in Spokane, Gingrich called him “the greatest national security disaster that we've had in my lifetime."
(Remember the previous President Newt???)

With regard to the negative ads being run by his opponents (thanks to MSNBC.com) ". . . Gingrich said speaking to an audience near Cedar Rapids. “They ought to take this junk off the air. The former House Speaker has vowed to run a positive campaign and not attack his rivals . . . at least most of the time.
Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, and Rick Perry all have TV ads and campaign mailers attacking Speaker Gingrich on a variety of issues, such as being a “flip-flopper” and not being a “consistent conservative. . . ”
And even though Newt may not practice what he preaches 100% of the time, the sentiment is noteworthy and commendable.

(from MSNBC) . . . Perry said, "Mitt, while you were the governor of Massachusetts ... you were 47th in the nation in job creation," Perry said in a challenge to Romney's economic credentials. "What we need is somebody who can draw a bright line between themselves and President Obama, and let me tell you one thing: I will draw that bright contrast."
Romney responded by dredging up Perry's work as a young Texas politician in support of Al Gore's 1988 presidential campaign.
"With regard to track record and the past, governor, you were the chairman of Al Gore's campaign. And there was a fellow Texan named George Bush running," Romney said. "So if we're looking at the past, I think we know where you were."
(The non-partisan Politifact determined that Perry was not Gore's campaign chairman, but rather, simply a single supporter.)
The showdown between Romney and Perry was, in some respects, the one that political observers had hoped for since Perry entered the race in mid-August. The Texas governor overtook Romney, the campaign's putative frontrunner, in the polls, but has seen his numbers decline since then. . .
