Decency . . .

(from https://people.com/politics/washington-national-cathedral-donald-trump-statement/?fbclid=IwAR2M3jGog7li0s3_ON1PKn-oalDShdxQ_S8WsG-QxEISLiffYZE5p6T0HWw)
". . . The top leaders of the Washington National Cathedral . . . issued a withering condemnation of President Donald Trump‘s inflammatory and, at times, racist rhetoric. . . . With repeated references to the mid-century hysteria around Communism, in which Sen. Joseph McCarthy stoked vitriol and suspicion in public discourse, three top cathedral officials said President Trump was doing much the same now. . . “We have come to accept a level of insult and abuse in political discourse that violates each person’s sacred identity as a child of God,” reads the . . .  statement, signed by the Revs. Mariann Budde, Randolph Hollerith and Kelly Douglas. “We have come to accept as normal a steady stream of language and accusations coming from the highest office in the land that plays to racist elements in society.”. . . The trio asked, “As faith leaders who serve at Washington National Cathedral — the sacred space where America gathers at moments of national significance — we feel compelled to ask: After two years of President Trump’s words and actions, when will Americans have enough?” . . . Declaring “the time for silence is over,” the statement continues: “What will it take for us all to say, with one voice, that we have had enough? The question is less about the president’s sense of decency, but of ours.”. . . "

Learn . . .

. . . from Baltimore . . .
. . . America!

(from Dan Rodricks https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/dan-rodricks-blog/bs-md-rodricks-pugh-0502-story.html?fbclid=IwAR3t2N73H8ZxfiK8sHavoEfv5Mh9OE2ZGo__RAJnr6KDKG59ZP8Hg07bzVE)
". . . It was only March 13 that we learned — from a report in The Baltimore Sun — about Pugh’s questionable deal to sell thousands of copies of her mediocre, self-published children’s books — some $500,000 worth — to the University of Maryland Medical System while she sat on its board. But that was just the start of her downfall. A cascade of “Healthy Holly” revelations followed, making it clear that Pugh had been involved in more deals than she had acknowledged during that David Lynch-weird press conference on March 28, the one with the bibs. . . The unusually fast and broad condemnation of Pugh’s “Healthy Holly” deal-making — the part that came from city dwellers and not just the usual crowd of city haters on talk radio — reveals evidence of civic impatience. And Baltimore badly needs impatience. . . And Baltimoreans were quick to dismiss Pugh because we are sick of corruption or, at the least, dysfunction, chaos, distraction and embarrassment. . . We probably expect too much from mayors, but, at the minimum, we need an honest, stable and conscientious leader in City Hall, not someone scheming up lucrative side deals. . ."

Parties . . .

. . . we need more (than two) . . .

. . . if the media (and the electoral system) provided equal time and attention to ALL U.S. political parties instead of just the two with the most money,  the most ridiculous of them could objectively be identified for what it is . . .

(from http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/gop-flips-the-script-endorses-executive-overreach)
". . . About a year ago, the Republican condemnation of President Obama shifted – “he doesn’t lead enough” was out, “he leads too much” was in. The more Obama’s policy agenda succeeded in practical terms, the more the GOP argued the president is a lawless, out-of-control tyrannical dictator, hell bent on limitless power without regard for the Constitution. This week, however, Republicans are disgusted by Obama’s lack of executive overreach. GOP lawmakers are suddenly convinced the tyrannical dictator needs even more sweeping powers to act unilaterally in matters of life and death. . .This isn’t so much an example of Republicans temporarily putting aside their principles for the sake of convenience. Rather, it’s fresh evidence that the principles themselves have always been a mirage. . .

Republicans think Obama must stop acting like a dictator and start working with Congress as the Constitution intended – unless we’re talking about wars, in which case Obama should go ahead and circumvent Congress as much as possible.

Republicans think higher deficits are an economic scourge – unless deficit financing advances conservative policy goals, in which case budget shortfalls are better left ignored.

Republicans think government spending is inherently wasteful and counter-productive – unless the investments are directed at their state and/or their policy priorities, in which case government spending is great.

Republicans think the big federal government shouldn’t interfere with local decision making – unless the residents of the District of Columbia make a decision the right disagrees with.

Republicans think Congress should take a leading role in economic policy – unless we’re talking about trade authority, in which case it’s time to curtail Congress’ influence and empower the lawless White House to do as it pleases. . . "
